Dean was fitting the spinner to the prop on his latest project today, so I shot a few pictures. With only a 40 horse cont. he is doing everything to maximize the performance that he can. For those who are not knowlegeble (including me), the idea is, as the thrust load increases the trailing tips decrease the pitch, then at cruise settings it reverts back to cruise pitch. As Dean says. This is 'experimental' is'nt it?

I've noticed the VW derived engines are not popular with A--KF. Builders, mainly because of weight and or cooling . But because the price of the favored engine jumped about 40 percent while I was dealing with wings etc. I decided, with Dean Wilson's oversite we would bite the bullet and see if we could make a decent effort using a 2180 Revmaster from an abanded Q2 project. One of the mods we made. Mounted the engine direct to airframe about 2" behind the original firewall, as adding weight is almost the unpardonable to my mentor. Built a carbon fibre cowl. Anyway, a few progress pics. As a first time builder, this forum is great. Also welcome any suggestions . Jack

More info on Dean's project : span 35 ft. Wing area. 122 sq. ft. Strut lift area 23 sq. ft. Length 16 ft. Cabin width 42". Fuel cap. 9gal. Power 1935. 40 horse cont. Dean says this is his personal hobby horse so what few scaps of paper (drawings) there we're have already hit file 13 . Interesting guy to work with! Jack

Good visibility, light weight, and I bet it flys great, v.gs etc. I still have the 90 percent to go on my Avid IV.

AVid is gone, Buzzard is in the air 15hrs now and you know what is waiting in the shop. The guy that bought the Avid is super happy with it. "Woo Hoo is this a fun airplane" his words. If you are off this week I can fly to Innisfail or North 40 and look at your plane for further insperation.

Track welder, If you want to retain the same blood lines I still have most of the plug I modified from a mk iv cowl to make it fit a revmaster . 3 gallon of bondo and 3 weeks later (maybe 4) it came out OK. It's cut as shown and the bottom intake damaged but could be used again.

Been driving the Peterbilt tanker around for my daughter and son-Inlaw (Central Copters--Bozeman Mt.). For a couple of years on fire suppression so flying a lawn chair from one shady spot to the other is about the toughest part of the job most of the time . Started in June- Pagosa Springs Co.,Southfork Co., Creed Co. (Elevation 8853 ft.), Hamilton Mt. Then McCall Idaho. Basically home-hauled logs this area in real life. Paul, Sorry about your gl problems, just thought I might throw in my two bits worth. Be sure to check your tracking, No Tow In! The t.d.s like a slight tow out mutch better. Probably you've already considered this, anyway a reminder, for what it's worth. Logtrucker

I can't find any pics of the MKIV FWF here at the house but I can take some of it if needed when I get out to the hangar (and if someone else doesn't send some first).

Nice pictures of Dean's sail boat Joey, and you probably know about his very latest. He had the 40 horse cont. from his first airplane (T. Craft) overhauled and started building an airplane to fit it. Started cutting tubing 1/25/12 Here's some of the progress pics. --If I can figure out how to do it.
