    ear ache
During a commercial airline flight an experienced Air Force Fighter Pilot was seated next to a young mother with a babe in arms. When the baby began crying during the descent for landing, the mother began nursing the infant as discreetly as possible.

The pilot pretended not to notice, and, upon disembarking, he gallantly offered his assistance to help with the various baby-related items.

When the young mother expressed her gratitude, the pilot responded, "Gosh, that's a good looking baby, and he sure was hungry!"

Somewhat embarrassed, the mother explained that her pediatrician said that the time spent on the breast would help alleviate the pressure in the baby's ears.

The Air Force Pilot sadly shook his head, and in true pilot fashion exclaimed, "HMMM, and all these years, I've been chewing gum."

    Moving to Detroit
This happened on a flight getting ready to depart for Detroit.

Bob was sitting on the plane when a guy took the seat beside him.
The guy was an emotional wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning in fear.

    "What's the matter?" Bob asked.

"I've been transferred to Detroit. There are crazy people there.
They've got lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs, poor public schools, and the highest crime rate in the nation."

Jack replied, "I've lived in Detroit all my life. It's not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business.
Enroll your kids in a nice private school. It's as safe a place as anywhere in the world."

The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, "Oh, thank you. I've been worried to death.
But if you live there and say it's OK, I'll take your word for it. What do you do for a living?"

"I'm a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck."

  6. akflyerbob added a post in a topic Anyone tried one of these lights??

First let me appologize to Wild, The lights are great for what they do, do.
But, It was "me" who considers a landing light something that lets the pilot
see where he is going to land and not let the people on the ground see he is coming.
However these lights are great for being seen and I will sertinly use them for that.

    here is my input...
I have these lights and I think in the dark, they don't put out enough light to walk by.
They are NOT landing lights, they are lights to let other people see you. Nav lights.
As I read the ad I was hoping more onto the landing light side.
They are very bright when you look at them and can be seen for long a distances but
don't lightup object for very far. Their like an LED flash light, the actual light doesn't go very far
but can be seen from afar.
    Its all in the reflectors.

    Reno Accident
This was sent to me in an email...................

The Reno Air Races has been a premier event among aviators for many years and will most likely permanently end as a result of the tragic accident this weekend at Reno.

The aircraft that crashed was called the Galloping Ghost, and was piloted by Jimmie Leeward, a well-established flier who has raced in this event before.

My brother-in-law, owns a P-51, restores P-51 aircraft for others, and has competed in previous Reno events as well. He was to be flying in this same heat, but because of some engine oil leakage problems was in his pit repairing the aircraft, and thus became an eyewitness to the accident. His pit was located about 100 yards from the point of impact on the tarmac. The aircraft impact on the tarmac(thick reinforced concrete) created a 3-ft by 8-ft hole.

As an eyewitness he observed the a/c to instantaneously pitch up from straight and level flight to cause the accident. The violent pitch up was believed to be initiated by the failure of a horizontal trim tab on the a/c elevator assembly.
The trim tab appears to become detached from one mounting point only, and then to extend itself aft much further than from its normal position in the tail assembly. This would serve to alter the a/c’s trim, and with a force much greater than that when the trim tab is in its correct position, because of a longer than normal lever arm to the a/c’s center of gravity. The a/c at this time was estimated to be traveling about 480 mph. I saw a pix of this broken and trailing trim tab on the web yesterday.
The pitch up appears to have created at least 9g of force based on the observation that the tail wheel of the P-51 extended at the same time.
In normal operation the tail wheel retracts at the same time the main gear does. A mechanism at the rear of the a/c then locks the tail wheel up in place. The limit for mechanical failure of that mechanism is about 9g, and the tail wheel extended during the pitch up maneuver, suggesting that at least 9g had been applied to the a/c and its pilot.
While no one can be certain of the exact g forces sustained by Leeward at that moment, it is probably safe to say that he became totally incapacitated or perhaps even fatally injured as a result, and had provided no input with regard to any observed aircraft maneuvers after that. Basically the a/c was guided by other aerodynamic forces that those normally supplied by the pilot. Telemetry for the a/c showed no changes in the power settings of 3600 rpm, and 110 inches of manifold pressure after the pitch up. This would clearly indicate that the pilot was incapacitated.
A side note, he (brother in law) suggested that pilot might have been fatally injured as well by the rapid 9+g maneuver as the aorta can separate from the heart under those conditions.

My brother in law lost some other friends as well as they were seated in the VIP area.

It is a sad day for aviation.

    Cup of tea
    ONLY A GRANDMOTHER WOULD KNOW...

    ~A Cup of Tea ~

One day my Gramma was out, and my Grampa was in charge of my sister.
She was maybe 3 1/2 years old. Someone had given her a little 'tea set' as a gift, and it was one of her favorite toys.

Grampa was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when she brought him a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Gramma came home.

My Grampa made her wait in the living room to watch her bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' Gramma waited, and sure enough, here she came down the hall with a cup of tea for Grampa, and she watched him drink it up.

Then she said, (as only a gramma would know), "'Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water, is the toilet?"

    Fords better idea
Willow Run Bomber Plant Video - WWII

Henry Ford was determined that he could mass produce bombers just as he had done with cars. He built the Willow Run assembly plant and proved it. It was the world's largest building under one roof. even then FORD HAD A BETTER IDEA!

This film will absolutely blow you away - one B-24 every 55 minutes. ADOLF HITLER HAD NO IDEA THE U.S. WAS CAPABLE OF THIS KIND OF THING. There is no way he could have even guessed.

For those who live outside of Michigan , Willow Run is near Bellville, Canton and Ypsilanti , MI

It's amazing that one B-24 (built with over 1.225 million parts) came off the assembly line every 55 minutes

Take a few minutes to watch this snapshot of history.

  16. akflyerbob added a post in a topic CPS Rotax Course

I went to the coarse last Nov. In my opinion the refund is the best bargan you will ever have.
I thought about asking for a refund when the course was over.
The reason it was so bad was because, it was the new class room, the parts and training aids were
unprepared, all the tools required for the class were not there.
The instructor was very good and improvised well but for thoes who were depending on learning
what they needed to know for their 2 stroke motor service it wasn't the best.
Several of us in the class had plenty of 2 stroke experience and could fill in the blanks ourself.
That was how my class went.
I will only hope thing have come together and class's will improve, well I know they will because
the instructor, no name or location here, knew the problems.

I only put this in writing so maybe someone will ask more questions before spending $2300,
plane ticket and hotel and class, to attend a $500 class.

  17. akflyerbob added a post in a topic Start up without prop

It doesn't hurt a thing to start the motor without a prop.
Its not the best thing on backlash for the gears in the box
just don't rev high or rapid rpm changes.
Thousands of 2 stroke are started everyday only hooked to a belt.
The proverb you referd to applys to a 4 stroke and only because
the prop is the flywheel for the engine giving momentom for the
    next compression.

About rollong the muff forward..mine is close to ther firewall
and the corners of the cowl are cut out to fit the front of the muff.
Part of the cut out part is not covered up by the ring cowl.
That all might be because the Kit has more legroom to startwith,
    maybe shorter eng mount???.

    Glad to see you aboard.
I talked to you several times about a paper problem I was having, and thank
you for the help with that.
I haven't worked on the Catalina, actually Avid Amphibian, or the Mod III
for most of this year. I'm still short a few pecies I didn't get with the buy.
But it is all up in silver, all metal epoxy primed, ready for top coat.
The same problem most people have, have to make a living to support habbits.
