  1. marksires added a post in a topic Wicks 10% off Paint and Coverings

As often as you are covering planes, I thought you'd be a dealer by now!   Anyway, probably should mark March in your calendar, they usually have this sale every year in March.  Don't know if September will now be a regular or not.

The company was Zaon - see the PCAS on the wikipedia page:

There was a company that had a device that strictly relied on transponders - Zaxon or Zarron, can't remember exactly.  I believe they are out of business though.

No, mine are 4130  like most of the plane's steel. I made them out of a flat sheet  except for the connecting tube. I  bent them to the shape then added some plates for better foot traction.  It isn't clear in my pictures, but I designed them so the strength of the pedals, particularly the connection to the brake cylinders, is not dependent on my welding ability, which is nothing to brag about.

And here are how I remade them to work much better:

You don't want stock ones, they have very ineffective braking due to poor geometry.
    Here are the stock ones:

Sorry to hear that.  I'll keep it around in case it will be useful for someone else.

I just bought a new radio to replace my old ICOM IC-A22.  It will receive, but transmit always says 'low battery', even with new batteries, and the transmission doesn't go out.  If that has what you need I'll be happy to send it your way.

  10. marksires added a post in a topic Finally starting new hangar!

No apartment, but I am going to make that part 2 stories, with the second story all storage. If I ever need it I could finish it out for an apartment I guess.
I love the smell of sheetrock in the morning as long as someone else is doing it!  I hired a guy to hang and finish it.  I really really really dislike doing drywall, especially the finishing.  This guy barely needed to sand it when he was done.  When I do it, it looks like a two year old threw some mud on the wall and then used it for fingerpainting.
I wonder how many Avid project planes will fit up there??? Hmmmmm

Especially since those are 4x12 pieces on the wall.

Progress continues.  Like building an airplane, 80% done, 80% to go.....
The !@#%^^ firewall was approved today!  Now I can frame out the bathroom, get the plumbers in, and then only electric remains.  I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, I hope it isn't a train!
One thing the firewall does is emphasize how tall this hangar is.  Looks like the great wall of China (or maybe Trumps border wall).

  15. marksires added a post in a topic Avid B Sheriffs Auction on 10/2/18. 10:30am.

FAA registry shows N417Z as deregistered, with a 'Sale Reported'.  Original Airworthiness was in 1988, deregistration happened in 2013.  The last registered owner was in California, so how it got to Iowa is probably a story.  I wonder if someone bought it as a project, moved it to Iowa, and then never did anything with it?

The 10 hours with no airworthiness or registration is interesting.  Hope the FAA doesn't pay a visit based on the ad!

Neither the 795 nor the gdl 39 provide ADS-B out.  NO portable device is approved for ads-b out, and I highly doubt they ever will.  For ADS-B out on our planes, the UAvionix device that replaces a nav light is a great option - it just got it's approval from the FAA at Oshkosh.

I'd have gotten in my airplane and left the grizzly to his cabin....
I just remember the old joke about telling the difference between black bear scat and grizzly scat - grizzly smells like pepper (spray) and has little bells in it.

Huh, 'A grizzly broke into the cabin' and 'I had a good time' aren't phrases I'd put together.....

I did something similar, but modified the pedals so the arm is at the bottom of the pedal instead of the top.  I used the MC4-G cylinders which are the shortest Matco has, and they fit in the shorter space.  I had tried the 'intensifier' kit on the old MC-5 cylinders, but really didn't notice any improvement.  I attached pictures of both the old and new, hope they make it!

That works, as long as the gray tank is 115 gallons also!  Mine only has 50 gallons, and that gets me about 4 days.  The gray tank is 60 gallons, so then its haul the gray out, haul some fresh in.  Mine actually has two gray tanks, but one only has the kitchen sink draining into it, so it seldom gets full.  I figure I'll have to have the truck come pump mine out at least once during the week.

I'll be arriving Sunday and leaving Saturday.  I'm driving my 5th wheel up (well, gooseneck now), and I'll be in Camp Scholler.  Splurged for an electric/water site this year.  The generators weren't a big deal, but the water tanks are too small, and hauling it was a royal pain.  Glamping, not Camping!
