    3/4" axle
Any ideas for the thickness and type of steel to make 3/4" axles out of. I had the Grove gear and axles, and now need the standard type. I will be on ski's so plan to tap threads in the inner diameter. Is 4130 3/4"x .120 adequate?

    Thanks,

    Elevator trim
Apart from electric, how is your trim tab actualed? Mine has a single wire like the original, but the wire was frequently breaking at the tab and at the handle. Due to the freqeunt breaking, I modified the handle and trim tab horn and have been more problem free. My buddy just experienced elevator flutter when his trim tab actuator broke. This is exactly what I experienced in the past. I am re- wondering if there is a better system than a single piano wire?

    Thanks for your ideas,

The Grove gear that I took off was 40 lbs. The bush gear weighed on a baby scale is 18 lbs!

Look how much more I can eat and not gain weight!

    Bush gear
    Hi,

Just got my bush gear from Airdale. It looks very nice. I noticed that the front leg fuslage attach point has a stap over the bushing, as expected it, but the rear bushing does not. Is this normal not to have one at the rear? I don't know if loads are different there and not needed, or was the strap missed ad I should weld on on?

    Thanks,

The jab, with prop spinner, and all? The 582 was simply unbolted from the firewall and weighed.

  14. larr added a post in a topic tail up

My MK1V with Grove gear takes a bit longer to get the tail up. I don't know what speed, as I never really look. Keep the stick forward of neutral and ease it back as the tail comes off. I have found that the quickest way off is full flaperons and 3 point attitude. It may also depend on the CG. The Airdale gear may be different tail up wise than the standard gear. I played with what my airplane likes..... I set the elevator trim neutral, then just gard the stick, allowing it to go where it wants elevator wise. The tail usually never comes up before takeoff - loading dependant. I found that due to the geometry of the gear, the wings are ready to fly before yozu can physically get it in the air due to the landing gear. Unless I am in snow, or not on a strip I always 3 point take off. Again, don't concern yourself with speed, just feel the airplane guiding it to do what it wants to do. Airspeed is for naviagation. Ops, now I'm preaching.

Hey Joey, If I am the Larry you refer to with ref two strokes - I got a bad rap! I love my 582! I don't think that there is a better engine for our frames than the 2 stroke. What I didin't like was specifically, was the old McCaugha(sp) that was sitting around available for a good deal. One on those cost my buddy his gyro - TWICE! They may have been good 10 years ago, but anymore, I would run from them bases on his experiences of trying to get it to run right. Nothing performs as well as the 582 when consoder wt/hp/torque/$$.

Ensure that you have full rudder movement. It should be at least 30° each side, or even just about to touch the elevator at full deflection. Try with your hands, and also with the rudder peddles to ensure full throw. Just becasue it jas flown, doesn't mean that it has been rigged right.

    Avionic Specialist?
I am tring to use a set, of earbud type ear piece with normal aircraft radios. I have the ear piece speaker at the correct impedience, but the cord has the standard 3mm plug requiring an adapter to the 1/4" jack. I have tried 2 or 3 adaptors from radio shack, but I get static and electric noise in the ear piece. I have a headset that has a 3mm jack to plug in a music source into it. When I use the earbud through this jack it works fine. I would like to wear the earbuds as a stand alone. Any ideas to get rid of the static/electric noise? Should the jack be insolated, or....? Please be very basic, as I am like SGT Shultz..... I know nothing!

    Thanks,

    Randy,

Yours broke just like mine did.

With regards to the raised roof...... did your turle deck fit in ok, or did you have to remake or relocate your fasteners?

    Thanks,

    Bush or Grove gear
Has anyone gone from Grove to the bush gear that could share their opinion? I currently have the Grove, its fine, but at 35 # heavy, and I think a bit too robust. I like the looks and weight of Brett's Bush gear, but don't know if it is wise performance wise, or resale wise....

    Your opinions are appreciated.

I use them. If a tank leaks, you can close one and use from the leaking tank. I do not carring a lot of fuel. I only use one tank unless I have to, otherwise you have more fuel that you can't see and therefore don't know if you rally have it, and end up tankering fuel. Essentially more flexibilty at zero costs.

    Weight
Currious to the average MT weight iod a MK1V, and what weight do you normally fly at?

Anyone with a 912, who would care to discuss performance?

    Thanks,

Ok, bit those of us who have seen the light of the Avid - why aer there not more Fat one flying? Do they make a good platform or does the size really reduce the performance? I would havr thought that the Fat Avid may be close to being a great airplane!

    Thank Doug,

Will the MK1V elevator & horizontal stab work on the +? I understand that the plus has a balance rudder - is that manditory, or can one get away with using the 1V's rudder?
