  1. My brother had a piano hinge on his turttle deck. We never could figure out a way to seal that damn thing up so it would not leak every time it rained...

I want a lexan turttle deck BAD for the visibility and more green house effect in the winter, I am just worried about it cracking when I need to pull it off and it is -30 outside. Several of my trip to the lodge have been at those temps, and when its time to pack up and go home, I dont have much choice but to pull the deck off to stuff all my crap in the baggage area.

I have a rod tube in mine and find it alot more of a pain in the ass than a helpful item. Next time I have it in the garage it is getting pulled out. 90% of the time I just strap my poles to the wing struts anyway, same thing for my rifle or shotgun.

    :BC:

I have the Avid magnum manual. The TD is hinged crossways. They have a U-shaped piece that goes under the hinge, and tuber or silicone seal to vent it out the side. Try Airdale for info / parts. Are they still in business? I watched Airdale #1 being built in Alaska, but the TD was split in half lengthwise. Surely, there must be a U-shaped rubber, or what about just flat rupper glued under the hinge and vented out? Ed in MO

  2. Has anyone found a source for a replacement rubber boot for the MC-1 cylinder? Matco no longer has them.

How about asking Matco if the MC-5 boots will work? I have the MC-1, but don't know what you mean by "boot". where does it go? Ed

  3. I'm adding the wing extensions to a speedwing and I'm in need of two 3' pieces of flap and a few hinges.

I have two pieces of flaperon. one is about 4 feet long and the other is a little shorter. BUT - Speedwing is model 4? Mine are the early type with the flat bottom - not symetrical - think there are 3 or 4 hangers total, but question if hangers and cutouts will be in the places you need them. They are not hard to make - and you can use blind rivets - just have the tails on the top, so they don't scrape your scalp! Ed

  4. do you know if this fit on the Avid B and C models with out to much modification? how much are you asking. any pictures by chance.

    Thanks Robert

We would just have to compare measurements to see if it fits. Can take photo later this week. May be smoke or light bronze? Take half of whatever Kitfox wants. I have their price list somewhere. Ed

  5. Im getting started on an old B model and would like to convert it over to hydraulic brakes, Iv'e checked the matco website and there are a ton of options for different parts, what should i be looking for. I want a good set up but im on a tight budget at the moment as well. I would really like to get the master cylinders soon so i can get all of the brackets welded on right away before there is more in the way to worry about.

    Thanks Robert

Robert, I have all the stuff to convert yours, KF landing geasr, axles, wheels, matco brakes, cylinders. Someone wrote me about them and I gave them a quote, but no reply yet. So...........? Ed

  6. Finishing my Kifox 2 and looking to buy a Rotax 532/582 engine mount that attatches to the bottom of the engine and then bolts to the firewall mount with four bolts. If you have one E-Mail me @Bulpug@comcast.net.

    Thanks! Mark

Mark, I'm too old for puters! I have a 532 mount for a KF1, but need measurements between all bolt holes to see if it fits your 2.

Also have a 532 from a KF2 complete with mount, radiator, redrive, starter, muffler, instruments and prop - and anything else that fits it. Rather sell the KF1 mount by its self. $100 plus shipping. Ed

  7. Need 66" -68" 3 blade left rotation prop ground adjustable prop for a 582 w/C box.

    301-797-1875

I have a 3 blade GSC Ithink 68, good condition, with 2 spare blades. Make me a reasonable offer plus shipping.

Now, don't know what rotation - came from rotax 532 tractor engine on KF2. Ed

  8. I have an extra heater for sale. Measures about 5" high x 8" deep x 16" wide. 4 outlets for heat, 2 defrost ducts. twin blowers, 3 speeds.

Mine works great. Mounted under nose tank, or in place of it. Manufacturer told me that it would overheat a rag-top jeep - they weren't kidding.

Cost me $200 with shipping. Sell $175 shipped to lower 48. This is new, in original box. Ed

  9. Hi all,

I figure chances are slim but thought I'd ask if anyone has or knows anyone who has a set of Cleveland 40-97 6 inch wheels preferably with brake disks for sale.

I want to mount both my street and bush tires on wheels for easier change out.

    Many thanks!

    Chris Bolkan

I checked my wheels today. I have 2 mains and one nose. I plan to keep the nose wheel. I believe that these are 40-90A wheels and 164-23 disks. I took this from Spruce Catalog. the only numbers I found on the two wheels I checked were 1075 on one and C857 on the other. The disks are probably way too heavy for your bird, but this is good, as they can be turned thinner by any shop that does brakes. The wheels are epoxy painted and the disks have primer and red rustoleum on them to preserve them from rusting. Haven't found bearings or bolts, but you may want to get new ones anyway. But can look more. Make offer. Ed

  10. I have several Kitfox manuals, and the Avid Magnum manual. Some TD's are split lengthwise, and some crosswise. I have a one-piece Lexan light bronze for early Kitfox for sale. Like new old stock - never cut or drilled. Ed in Missouri

  11. Randy, Just figured the 32 inches vs the 880 sillymeters and they don't match. Looks like 32 is 800. 880 is 35 inches. Please go ahead and measure around your belt. If it is 32, then we have a match, but if not - Thanks for trying. Now I need to find a supplier for Gates or some brand of belt.

  12. I have one or two, have to check, sets of Cleveland wheels, disks & brakes taken off of a Piper, cleaned, treated and painted white. Will let you know in day or so. Have no tires for sale - McCreary are cheap new. Priced reasonable - Let me know what you think is reasonable. Will Check part numnbers to see what they are.

  13. Needing Flaperon? Don't know if I have two scraps left or only one about four feet long. Will check later today. maybe a hinge or two?"? Why are you slowing it down? more lift? weight? Catch you later. CST Ed im Missouri

  14. Randy,

My belt measures 3 1/2 wide and about 32 inches long measured on the outside. I will try to convert my numbers into sillymeters, and see what your numbers might mean in "Merican". If we have a near match, and I think the 3 5/16 is close enough, then call me this afternoon, or whatever afternoon you can and let me know where to send a check and I will pay shipping - maybe $10 more?

    Thanks again, Ed 314-753-8587 Mo.

  15. Hi Ed, I checked the belt today and it is a Gates 8808MGT85. The width is 3 5/16" but I didn't measure the length. I think the number represents the length, teeth and width but not sure. Possibly 880mm length, 8mm teeth and 85mm width? I don't have a calculator handy at the moment and I always have to look up the conversion. I guess I will never fully get my mind changed over to metric. See if your existing belt has same numbers. I can measure the length as well just to be sure.

  16. Randy, Thanks for the reply. I am old, and puter inept. Maybe daughter can help me post a photo.

My mount goes both to engine and the redrive. I have a video that Dave Johnson made, and in it he said that the EA81 was 1.84 ratio. But when he wrote me about new ones, he mentioned only 2.1 and 2.35 ratios. The original owner said he thought it was 1.8, but he was very uncertain about lots of things. He had bought it used. My belt is still in one piece, but getting old. I would like to have your belt if it is the right one. How about just measuring the belt length and width? I think they are all 8mm teeth. Don't know what company makes them or if they will interchange with Gates Poly________?

Please let me know what your belt measures and I will measure mine.

my phone is 314-753-8587 afternoons CST. Ed

  17. Hi Ed, welcome aboard. I think I might have that same redrive on the motor I had before the Stratus. If you can post a picture of it I probbly can tell. You can determine the ratio by counting the cogs on the crank pulley and the cogs on the prop pulley and dividing the number on the crank into the number on the prop. It is probably 2.2:1. The redrive I have uses a 4" wide belt. I have an extra brand new belt (I think it is a goodyear) I paid $75 for it but would sell it for $50 if you want it. I can get the numbers off of it for you.

My engine mount goes to the engine block and not the redrive. The engine mount was originally an Avid mount that Airdale modified for my Avid+. Brett at Airdale may be a source for this mount. For the mounting hardware on the block, Status sells these that bolt directly to the engine block and incorporate 4 conocal rubber mounting points like standard lycomming and Continental mounts. All the rbber parts are included; the bolts through these are 3/8" AN bolts. the bolts to the engine are the head studs and other metric bolts for the existing tapped holes in the block.

  18. Just ordered the lights. Can't have too many. Alaska requires more than down here, but still had close calls up there too. Best one was white plastic coming out of canyon on my left near Birchwood. Green light showed on his right wingtip as he met me headon in 2 seconds, either upside down, or lights on wrong????????

    Thanks for the info.

  19. Just letting everyone know that Mr. Dave Johnson, owner of "Reductions" in Canada, passed away 22 Sept 2011.

I purchased a used EA81 with his reduction belt drive in 2003. I wrote to him trying to find out my ratio, where to get a new belt, and specs on washers and bolt torks on his engine mount. His wife just sent me a letter that he had passed away and the company is no longer in business.

If anyone can give me any of this info, I would appreciate a posting or call me afternoons CST.

    Thanks, Ed in Missouri 314-753-8587

  20. I am looking for a pair of 6" Matco wheels. Just the rims, wouldn't need the brakes.

I have an extra set of eight-inch Kitfox wheels & brakes for sale. Mstco is now making tires for them. When I needed tires, there were none, so I bought sprint-car slicks and used them. Put 6" matcos on my plane. Ed in Missouri

JUST SOLD THEM. ED IN MO

  21. Can someone tell us the thickness of the Lexan Turtle decks? I would like to build one for my Kitfox 1.

Thickness is probably .090 to .125. Could measure the extra that I have. I have bent Lexan with a heat gun, but too hot and Lexan will have little bubbles in it. TD must fit in slot at end of skylight.
