Mine has enough convulsions with me buying plane parts - A Mercades would probably give me a cussing, concussion, and divorce !!!!!
Of course - SHE would get the Mercades and planes too.!!!!!

NOW, if we could just figure out how, or get AKFLYER to fix it, we could enlarge the photo by your handle and get a better look at that nice bird.......same goes for other's photos.....would be nice to see them enlarged.

FYI: Browsing thru 1300 or so back up light bulb listings on Ebay, I only found 1 for 9 LED which I think is 1156 base.
I did find bulbs with up to 63 LEDs with 19 LEDs being the most advertixed - most are 4.25 to 6.50 per bulb.
Then there are XENON /ZENON bulbs which I know nothing about. Looks interesting....
Plenty of opportunities for someone to experiment with for brightness, fit, color, etc.
Have fun - save money - use less amps - get brighter!.

Real cute Doug - Wonder how long they last? Would that also be a heat sink for the plug, or make it shorter? How about just putting band clamps on the rubber sockets, or cushioned adels?

Hey, dont think I am all that benevelent (cant spell it) - Doing this for all of us - Just burns my ass every time I look at those $300 to $1000 "Aircraft Lights", and the same for their LED "Aircraft" lights. Wrap a piece of tinfoil in back of an auto bulb if you think it needs it.....Will report more later on.

If that is "THE" John Larson who built the "Pursang", which later became the "Airdale" - THE one who did the "Engine Beat" for Kitplanes or Sport Planes Experimental magazine - you are in great hands.....Good fellow flyer and good to talk to and get advise from.

My Kitfoxes pitots dont stick down 5 inches - more like 3 to 4 inches - Believe I drilled thru the 5th or 6th rib - The hole drilled in the forward spar can be slightly bent out by putting a rod into it - then add some silicone there to the "Black, tough, Nylon tube" - that is what Kitfox says.......
The wiring should go thru the rear spar - No holes needed there - Because if they went thru the front spar they would have to be longer and double-back to the rear so wing can fold - as the pitot tube has to - Donno why it goes thru the front, but went by the book there - I elected to enclose my wires in a poly.... tube for chaff protection.

I know you are wanting to get these asap - but send check by mail when you get ready - I called and looked and finally scrounged at a dumpster to find a box - going to do some major surgery on it to try to get it small enough for post office - If that fails, then will go to UPS tomorrow to ship. I have a used Kitfox flaperon - cant remember which wing - check with Brett first - Last time I shipped a pair it had to go freight and I had to build a box - think shipping was 3 or 400...wish you lived closer to MO.

I had rather let you send me a check or postal money order by usps after I find out what the postage will be. Cheaper for you that way. Send me a private message and give me your address and I will start boxing tomorrow. I got these without the trailing edges, so will search my used stock and if I find some TE material I will include it for you.
BTW: If you want tips without lights, you can cover the mounts solid with fabric, then if you want to add lights later on, you can open up the holes thru the fabric and mount your lights.

LEDs - GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, UNKNOWNS?I received my LED bulbs today.
GOOD NEWS: Pins on single-contact bulbs are same as a Grimes taillight bulb.
12 LED bulb will fit into Lens of taillight.
BAD news: Cant get LED quite far enough into socket to turn and lock it, because plastic housing hits. cant grind off housing.
GOOD NEWS: There are 9 LED bulbs available which may fit.
BAD news: Thought I was ordering 2 bulbs at $8.49 each - Got 2 pair of bulbs for $16.98- could have only ordered 1 pair....Think that figures out to only $4.25 a bulb, with free shipping - lots cheaper than Grimes and cheap enough to experiment with -
Got to find the 9 LED on Ebay.
UNKNOWN NEWS: Still dont know if these will work in the Grimes Wing Position Lights, cause cant find mine....Believe it might fit.
GOOOD NEWS: I'm done for now - Posting photo, I hope...

I've got a real cheap Kitfox 1 copy with lots of parts for sale. Could be modified to more GW, or stretched. Avid wings will fit, and it includes tailfeathers, landing gear, seat, controls, etc. Also have cowling and Rotax mount, and 532 engine. Where are you located?

KITFOX DROOP TIPS FOR SALEI have two sets of used Droop tips - one set drilled and cut for lights, the other not.
both sets may have some minor scrapes - both useable/repairable. For undercambered wings.
Make offer. can post or email photos and you take your choice of sets, or buy both.
Probably can be used on Avid too.

I would guess, since all Avid and Kitfox spars are the same distance apart, that the Avid or Kitfox tips would fit any model, except that my Kitfox tips are for the undercambered wings only?

Not sure - Better ask one of the Avid flyers - I am Kitfox builder. BUT, would guess since all Avid spars are same distance apart, that these should work on any wing.

Robert, or anyone,
If you can pull a Grimes position light bulb out of its socket, please look at the bayonet pins and see if one is located higher than the other, or if they are at the same location. Right now I cant find my lights which have been packed away since my move from Alaska.
The 12 LED bulbs I ordered are compatable with a 1156, or 1056 - dang, cant remember which - anyway, this is the back-up light bulb on older cars with the bayonet base, and not the newer type plug-in base. Also, they should be single contact, and not double contact like the 1057 or 1157 taillight bulbs.
I want to compare the pins on the LED bulbs with Grimes, so that we will all know if they are interchangeable.
Also, if you could measure inside of a red or green lens for diameter and height, I can compare that to the LED bulbs. May have to grind off some of the clear plastic housing that covers the LEDs to make it fit?
Should take a week or so for me to get the LED bulbs by mail - so no rush on this request.
