  1. EDMO added a post in a topic overheating... again

Glad the ending to that flight is only a sad one, and not a BAD one. Daughter told me they just had 100 mph winds in Anchorage.
That is supposed to be the wind they have on the mountainside east, but not normally downtown. Usually never gets over 50.
We will all be waiting for the outcome of this, and wish you some better luck.

LUSCOMB 8A/F, 0-200, MAY BE ON MARKET
My long-time flying buddy just told me that he plans to sell his 1946 Luscomb 8A/F with 0-200 engine soon.
This airplane was only judged 4 days out of 5 judging days at Oskosh, and they mailed him his First-Place Trophy.
Plane will be advertised sometime soon.
Let me know if anyone is interested in a $35K (guesstimate?) Beautiful Luscomb, and I will give you contact info.

  4. EDMO added a post in a topic fuel shutoffs

Just make sure you have them below the tank level - Gas does not like to run uphill in a climb.
Kitfox changed their original wing tank fuel line routing from over the door to under, because of fuel starvation in climbs.

  5. EDMO added a post in a topic GOOD SETUP FOR MC-4 TABS?

    Joey,
Added this reply once, and it went somewhere else - Thanks for the photos - Gives me all the info I need for MC4 pedal tabs.
Had not seen your earlier thread - great reading - If yours works good and stops you with those big tires, then my 600-6 should work - assume you have some kind of Matco calipers - mine are bigger than the early ones on KF.
Again, Many, Many, Thanks for the post.
BTW: Dont know if it is standard or not, but the #1 Airdale I saw had flat, sheet-metal brake pedals. In case someone is interested.
Think I may try that mod on mine.

P.S. Are your MC4s stock, or did you buy the sleeve kit which increases brake pressure about 56%, I think.?

I am moving mine forward to just behind the windsheild - takes more line to do it, but keeps them in sight.

You are talking to a Dinosauer! What is a sticky? I guess that is where you added Airdale to Avid?
Cant remember my email - been off it too long - maybe will send you wife's email and be back in doghouse again. Maybe better to ask wife what my email is - then got to find password to get to it.

  9. EDMO added a post in a topic ? for Dholly

And, to add more thought to that: I consider GW as "Landing Weight" - If I can take off 60 lbs over gross and fly in calm air for 2 hours, then I am back at GW for landing - But, that is my theory - not in the books.
Large aircraft, especially military, use this weight change all the time, and the authorized take-off weight is greater than authorized landing weight. Therefore they need to sometimes dump fuel before landing - YES, they also do it for safety in an emergency.
The Game wardens in Alaska flew their confiscated Cubs loaded so heavy that the fuselages were getting bowed in the middle - but they still flew ! Most small aircraft have a safety factor of at least 150% - Give that some thought. And, 6G's?
Has anyone, anywhere, seen an Avid or Kitfox, or clone, with broken wings from overloading? With no ground accident?

    Thanks Joey,
I hope that no one thinks that I am trying in any way to run this site. I just thought it would be a good suggestion for the future.

  11. EDMO added a post in a topic Airdale build

Thanks for sharing - Airdale was a good mod.
But wonder if moderator or you could put this in its own list or with the Avids -
just so that someone in the future could find it easier?
Do you know what the serial number of this one is?
I watched #1 being built in Alaska. There were only 5 available at that time, I think.
    Wish I had bought #2.

    GOOD SETUP FOR MC-4 TABS?
Does anyone have side-view photos, dimensions or drawing for a GOOD-WORKING setup of MC-4 brake cylinders and pedals?
I have not welded my tabs and want to get the best results I can get.
    Thanks,

    Danke,
Think if you are not a tailwheel pilot - you should land with nose wheel - much besser.

I was referring to new sales as compared to Kitfox. I know nothing about how his business is going. But I wish the best for him.

Welcome and congratulations Brian - I'm sure you will get lots of feedback and help from the Avid flyers on here.
10 hours from Mississippi, or was that round trip? Where are you located?

  18. EDMO added a post in a topic From nose-gear to tailwheel - wide-gear

What kind of nose gear is that? Can you post more photos of it showing how it is mounted, or tell me more about it? Is it spring-loaded?
I am making my own nose gear. I wanted to buy a used one - but too late now.
Where in Germany are you? I flew out of Crailsheim for 2 years in 1960 to 1962. (halfway between Neurenberg and Stuttgart). Beautiful country and nice people.
    Interesting trailer too.

To me - family resemblance goes back several generations to the Taylorcraft, or the J1,J2,J3 Cub that Taylor designed for Piper.
Right on - Dean Wilson was a good designer when he made the Avid - but not a super-salesman.
But Dan Denny was a super-salesman when he sold the Kitfox aka Avidstein.
Then came the Pursang and Airdale, which was a good mod, but again, without a super-salesman.
All of them are good planes - each has its atributes.
Brett is struggling to stay in business, IMO
And, again, my "Foxy Flapper" / (FoxAvidstein with Flaps) I modified using Dean Wilson's design - for my own pleasure, and no intention of making them for business - I am a poor salesman anyway - and it may never be duplicated - so there we go.......

  20. EDMO added a post in a topic AVID WINGTIPS FOR SALE

Thanks for letting me know - was wondering what happened, or if you got the tips - Got a virus myself - went to Doc yesterday and told him that if I was sick, I would go home and rest - but if I was dying, I had a hell of a lot of things to do first.
Glad the tips will work and help you get your bird built.

  21. EDMO added a post in a topic Wanted Avid Mk4 HH left wing tank

I have an old fiberglas 12 gallon tank for Kitfox 1, dont know if that would fit - cant remember which wing - storms coming, so cant check on it now - would probably need to be treated with Caswell - probably better to buy a new one IMO. $100 plus shipping.

Probably because Kitfox outspends them on advertising, like 100,000 to 1, and maybe limited production - maybe poor folks cant afford one (like me!) Maybe Airdale was more wanted? Magnum?

QUESTION: What GW were the original Airdale wings? 1320 or 1230 or ?

MARK - ARE YOU SURE that you did not buy the orginal PURSANG? Did John show the Pursang to you?

I was sure that Bill was asking about the sheeting from the LE about 16" back on top & not my LE extensions. The Magnum manual shows this in fiberglas.
