Think they did this on the TIP tanks too - Would have to read manual again.
Dont make sense to me - Neither do tip tanks!

Donno - You need to talk more to Avid builders rather than me on this.
There is always a place for innovation in any of this.
Be thankful that we are not "certified", then we would have to use part number XXXXX and not modify!
Or, pay $$$$$ for an STC..!

I am no expert on Avids - Just have the Magnum manual - they install the tank and THEN put a fiberglas cover over it - looks crazy to me - this is not the fiberglas leading edge either - Didnt know if other Avids did it.
    I am Kitfox builder.

My wheels turn slow - but they keep on turning - Dont understand why your caps are inboard and all other I have seen are outboard - are you sure that the tanks have not been put on the wrong wing???

On the washout and wing tanks - Dont know if this will work for you, but - my outer edge of tank stuck up above the rib next to it, so I just added another ribcap on top of the original so fabric clears tank.
Donno why Avid put fiberglas over top of tank and Kitfox dont? But you should be able to work this out.
Mine was because I have two tanks in each wing - I still have the original 1 3/4 washout, but wish I didnt.

  6. EDMO added a post in a topic One of my boys and my C build.

I was asking Joey why his vent tubes on the caps stuck up so high - he told me it was to prevent overflow when wings were folded. Kitfox says to only fold them with 1/2 tanks, but that is not always practical.
BTW: On gas caps - better to buy the UNVENTED and add the tubes to them - Otherwise, you need to add epoxy to block the internal vents to keep them from leaking when folded, and maybe while flying - IMO.
Sorry, I forgot that fuselage tube might be in the way for locating the lower fittings. Try making a couple of spacers or something that extends the attach tube hole out, and.........? Maybe you can get some measurements from another Avid?

From a builder who always has 2 cents worth (seems like no-sense at times)
The dihedral is probably not as much concern as the leakage when wings are folded and point downhill.
Your wings will rock a lot more than the dihedral.
With the plane leveled, If you drop a plumbline or level from the rear crossover attach tube center, then that should be the center of your bottom strut fitting hole.
1/2 inch of washout is supposed to give you a little more cruise - but is it worth the work? You decide.
HOPE this helpsd - now wait for some more "intelligent?" answers.

Saw a little bit on flooding in Talketna and also Seward, but not enough to get an idea of how bad it might be in your area, if at all. October snows should be coming soon. Take your broom.

Did a lot of blasting in my day too, both on aluminum and steel in certified repair shops, but the soda stuff is unknown territory for me.
How many thousands of antique steel-framed planes do you think are flying today after being sand blasted or blasted with aluminum oxide?
AND, has anyone ever checked on Kitfox and Avid, to see how they blast the frames before painting/powder coating?

Have you considered cutting the flange part wide enough so you could move it forward and rivet it back to the cowling? Underneath & blended?

Never heard of any engine needing a belly rad and 2 cheek rads together. Believe there must be something wrong with system or engine.

    Brian,
Hope you get your cooling problems solved - You might check out your water pump - some of these have plastic impellers that can slip on the driveshaft and not pump the amount required - also the thermostat.
Now for the (maybe?) bad news - My book says that heater cores are usually denser than rads, and operate in a "blower-forced-air" condition, where the rad is designed to let air flow thru it easier, like airstream air.
    Good Luck,
    ED in MO
P.S. You might take your hoses off and do a flow test on your main and cheek rad, or have a rad shop test them. Vinegar will eat away the calcium, or have them boiled out at a shop.
ONLY DISTILLED WATER SHOULD BE USED IN RAD SYSTEMS (WITH CORRECT ALUMINUM ANTIFREEZE 50/50 MIX) Most of our water is loaded with calcium from the limestone in the earth.

"NO OLD BOLD PILOTS": I was one of the "bulletproof youths" in my day - But the day I saw a PPC driver get blown 200 feet off of the runway, and end up with his legs inserted into a hanger tin roof, I decided that "lighter-than-planes" was not for me.
    Liked your brave photos tho.

I was hoping and waiting to read what some more knowledeable person might write, like SUBERAVID in Alaska - Since none have written so far, my best guess is the Odessey 680 or larger - depends on where you are putting it, and how much weight you want too.
Look up this one if you dont get a better answer.

    Randy,
My books on using the Chevy AC condensors says to have AN 3/4 inch fittings welded to them and use AN fittings on hoses.
I dont see why you couldnt use push-on fittings instead. That would be cheaper, and probably lighter yet.
Used condensors At $5 each at junkyards - Lighter and makes $ense. Condensors cannot be repaired for AC use because of the extremely high pressures in the AC system.
I think that Reinhard used these on the first Stratus engines.

SuberAvid Randy, just wrote in another post that both of his are a Facet - He has the Stratus with dual bing carbs. About 4 pounds of pressure.
One important thing he said was that they had check-valves in them to let the fuel flow from the tank if the pump is not working and not backwards from the engine or other pump.

I am looking for a set of cheek rads for my Soob. Sorry, this belly rad is about 1/2 size of my Rabbit rad.

Think I already have one - Got a 532 with 80 hours, gauges, rad, mount, everything, and cant get an offer.
Need to get a bigger boat for the weight of it.

All it says is Aerobat - no model listed - no weights. Only 4 pages. No clue if there was an Aerobat Magnum - but something may be in the builders manual - I havent looked for it.

Thanks for the pump info. There are several Facet pumps in Spruce - I have the number of the one Dave complained about, and there is a larger, round one that has several check-valve options too.
Do the tiny holes work - Dont have a clue - just guessing - Maybe Mr. Piper thought so? Probably wont put them on mine, but cant see that they hurt anything.

My 532 flew just fine with a belly rad 1/2 the size of my VW Rabbit rad.
Sorry, thought you had a Soob, and these need more cooling. If you decide to ditch the cheek rads, I would be interested.

Depends on what Carb you have. Maybe you have a suction leak in lines or pump? Maybe you can rebuild your pump?
Mine has a Holly 5200 - most Holly and Carter carbs take 2 to 6 pounds of fuel pressure. I dont know about the Jap carbs.
My builder told me not to use Facet, but others do. Automotive Accessories makes a pump, but do not know model.
Some, like Airdale, on the Stratus with Jap dual carbs, used a 1970s or 80s Ford pickup 6 cyl fuel pump.
Maybe something similiar, if you have a Jap or American carb?
I havent bought mine yet. Randy "Suberavid" has two of some kind on his Stratus - trying to find out what kind.
