  1. Could you imagine how light a carbon sparred, wood ribbed, Hershey barred, oratex Wing would weigh, with titanium jury struts.

    $2.1 million.

  2. I will measure my rims tomorrow

I’m hoping they are 6x6 they the stock avid wheels

I think my friend Paul had "stock" Avid-Matco wheels and they were 6x4".  He added the ring to widen them.

Give Matco a call.  Get the proper parts so that you don't wreck your expensive tires.

  3. Too H-E-A-V-Y.

Too complex with trying to adapt a computer system.

Too expensive.  By the time you engineer a PSRU, engine mount, fuel system, several propellers and all of the computer crap, you could have bought a brand new 912.

  4. With the integrated tube, drawing the beads in closer than the recommended 6X6 wheels would be risky of pinching the "tube" between the wheel halves.  Pinching the tube will render the tires junk.

  5. He's been through a lot lately with his and his wife's health issues.  He's still hanging in there but very busy with all of that.

My best to him and his wife, been thinking about him a lot.

  6. How many of these were sold/built?

I have only ever heard of the one, the prototype, and I was under the impression it was destroyed or dismantled?

  7. The 27” Desser tires are for 8” wheels.

This is not the only time I have heard the 26” ultralight tires are prone to damage.  I think it depends greatly on how heavy your plane is.  If you have a 4-500 pound light plane you’d probably be okay.  More than that, I would say go with the Airstreaks.  If you have one of the fat-assed late model 900 pound planes, the “standard” heavy carcass tire would be better.

  8. This is getting really frustrating.

Every day I have time to go flying, the weather is crap. When the weather is good, I don’t have the time.

  9. Is there still factory support for parts on this?  What about STCs?  If you can't put Bushwheels on it, I'll have to pass.

  10. It's not a model 1 cause it's to wide.  To me the wing ribs look like they are undercambered.  Did you measure the liftstrut?  That will tell if it's a 2 or 3 if the wings are undercambered.  If the wings are more or less flat on the bottom, it's a 4.  JImChuk

PS  pictures are of a Kitfox 1 strut.  Kitfox 2 are same length.  3 and 4 are about 10" longer

PS PS at first glance I thought the the black motor mount was a 912 mount.  Should be 4 arms and rubber mounts that come off the four sockets that hold the rubber mounts.  Now that I study it some more, I'm not sure.  Set it off by it'self, and get some more pictues.

The black mount still appears to be a bed mount for a 582, only with the side provision to attach the cowl.

  11. Those rib profiles match the model 4 ribs I have hanging on the wall. Sure doesn't look like a 1, 2 or 3 rib. But you can see the rib tail in the picture like a 1, 2 or 3 rib. So ?  Look at the size of those wheel pants, George Washington could have crossed the Delaware in those.

Those are definitely undercambered wing ribs. You can see the extended mounts for the flapperons and the undercambered shape clearly.  These are not model IV wings.

The doors are flat bottomed so it’s not a 1.

This is is either a 2 or 3 model depending on the lift struts.

  12. Has throttle body injection (like the Rotec system) ever been tried?

  13. There is an engine out there somewhere that is widely available that is perfect for the older Avid/Foxes. Nobody has run across it yet. In the meantime, we keep plugging along and keep searching. A true homebuilder's mind is always working and thinking. A little bit of Wilbur and Orville in all of us.

    Yes there is.  It’s a 582.
