  1. Well thank Av8r3400 u but to make it all correct and not start an argument.

NOT ALL 2STROKE DETROIT DEISEL MOTORS HAVE A BLOWER

sorry to tell u that. Would u like a pic of some i have? The blower is a update from a normaly asperated one, just like the turbo is a update to the blower, like the earlie 71, late modle 71 started with a blower, then to the 92, silver 92 ect.

Im sorry the streetrodder/drag racer in me used the supercharger reference, but all in all that is what it is, does the same job ( a large airpump that is able to b under driven, or can b over driven to create boost)  and many people took them off detroit deisle motors and made new endplates and extention snouts for belts (instead of gear driven like in detroit motors) and installed them on gasoline motors. Then they made that blower better by installing teflon strips in the end if the vains rotors to get better boost seal.

And yeppers i have been checkin out all the utube videos on people converting them, sure some SUPER DAMM nice ones out there.

Not engaging in an argument, but yes, I would very much like to see a 2-stroke Detroit Diesel engine without a gear driven roots type blower.

    Please educate me.

  2. For the record, ALL 2-stroke Detroits have a blower.  These are not super-chargers they are blowers to move the air through the ports to the combustion chambers and evacuate exhaust gasses.  Without the blower it would not run.  They do not provide boost over standard atmospheric pressure.

Later, more powerful engines added the turbo to gain boost over standard atmospheric pressure.

Great looking project, BTW.  Have you ever tuned into the "Bus Greasemonkey" on YouTube?  He's a traveling Detroit mechanic who only works on old GM busses.

  3. I have an AOA in my plane.  It is an awesome addition to my flying and I believe an added safety measure.  I use the Dynon dual input pitot tube hooked to my D180.  This also outputs an audio warning into the intercom.

  4. For the sled I LOVE my 2015 bearcat 570.  Wide track that will pull one hell of a load and its aircooled so when you pulling said load or running along packed trails pulling a groomer at a whopping 5-7 MPH it doesn't overheat.  To top it off its the most comfortable and easiest riding sled out there and the older I get the more comfort comes into play.  I can do  300+ mile day and I am not worn out or sore.

  5. It is proof that many people are ignorant, panicky, animals, who believe all of the bullshit the left wing propaganda machine produces.

  6.  Reminds me of the old joke about the fuller brush salesman (ya, that probably dates me) An old couple didn't want to buy any of his new fangled brushes, and so he said he would let them try some, and if they didn't like them, they didn't have to pay him for them next time he stopped by.  Few weeks later, he stopped back, and asked how the brushes were.  They said the tooth brush and hair brush were fine, and they would pay for them.  But they said they were going to stick with toilet paper, cause that toilet brush was just to rough.,   JImChuk

  7. I upgraded to a Grove spring I bought used.  It's for a model 7SS, but I was able to adapt it to fit.  Cheap, durable and indestructible.

  9. I would not put ULS (OEM 100 hp) jugs and pistons on an old UL.  The higher compression will tear that engine apart.  You'd be better off with the low compression kit that I used on my engine.  Much less stress on the (weaker) cases and bottom end of the engine.

  10. Yeah, the basic airframe is good but I'm looking for any kind of mod. Even something like an extra welded tab for a whatzit isn't off limits.

Sounds like you wanna build another Mangy Fox.

  11. I am pretty sure that I could not come up with a more difficult way to hang a rudder.  There is some creativity there and proof that someone at the factory should be piss tested for coming up with this arrangement.  Simple hinges like the elevator uses have worked since the beginning of flight..

One of the reasons that the first thing I did was to torch off all of those damn rod end bearings.  The dumbest idea ever for a rudder hinge!

  13. These are good questions. With the Kitfox I am picking up it only has 140 hours since new, but that was in 1993. Should I reseal it? If so what seals/gaskets do I need and how hard is that? I haven’t seen a Rotax teardown so this is a bit new to me. The plane has always been garaged in Florida so not a lot of temperature changes. Luckily also away from the coast.

With an inactive engine from (very humid) Florida I would be very concerned about internal corrosion of the steel parts.  Unless it was well pickled, the crank assembly is most likely not serviceable any more.
