A local guy wanted to do one of these competitions at his home-field as a EAA-Chapter event. I chose not to participate, as did many others, and it was finally cancelled, because I just didn't get a warm-fuzzy from the prospect of tight, low altitude, low airspeed maneuvering like this. One of the guys, who crashed the highlander, is a high time, experienced bush pilot with Reno STOL-Drag competition experience.
The moose-hunter turn is a real danger to even the most experienced pilots.

There was an older ULS for sale at Park City Aviation at KRRL. I think $8500 with about 200 hours.

Love the sound over-dubbing of the Avid. Must be the worlds only early Avid with what sounds like a Pratt & Whitney in it….
I've been playing the audio in my hangar, hoping my Rotax will learn how to sing in that key. I'll let you know if it works!
Hahahaha!

There were a couple of Avids and at least one Magnum...

I'll be there all week in the usual spot, down at the ultralight field. -
Brett in Rhinelander Wi had all the stuff yet a couple of years ago. Don't know if he still has it or not.... The fiberglass molds were not Avids. A guy in Mt did the fiberglass stuff, but he sold the molds to a guy in Mn a couple of years ago. I do know the people in Iowa were trying to buy them from him. JImChuk
Brett has the "Airdale" equipment which included some copies and modifications off of the Avid jigs. He still has this equipment.

Saw this on TKF too. For $3800 it just smells fishy...

I already forwarded this to Paul Buss...

Now you can have your plane and eat off it too...

I was doing a bit of eyeballing the old prop vs new for blade to cowl clearance, with prop pitched fairly course which is likely to course there is about 1/2 clearance between back of blade and cowl. Will I need a spacer? I am going to use a spinner like the one Tjay has so no clearance needed there.
I had to get a 1" spacer to make mine work.
Larry whats different about you setup vs mine because? I've put a Luga on my Kitfox and I didn't have to add a spacer and I've got plenty of room
The original builder of my plane did a horrible job on the cowling and I never took the time to fix it during the rebuild.
That's probably the difference.1 person likes this -

I needed different size hardware for mine.
I ordered online and I believe the grade needed is 8.8. I cross drilled them for safety wire myself. Metric bolts dot com or some such place...

175-ish inch pounds of torque. The rest is pretty straight forward.

Looking for advice on replacing old HKS 700e on avid heavy hauler model C. I assume best to go with 582 vs 912? New mount and cowling assume either way.
Looking to sell the HKS?

This Magnum is on its way to being rebuilt as we speak!
I bought the project from Chris in January. I am filming my progress on YouTube if you care to follow along. I can start a new thread as well.
How about a link to your YOuTube Channel?

500 hours and counting on my 105 hp Zipper.
Operating at lower rpm (4000-5000) will consume some oil, but not at proper cruise rpm (5000+).
No complaints at this time. Quality of the parts and the kit in general was excellent. -
My floats are the original floats that came with my engine when new in 1996. They work perfectly. If they aren't broke, don't fix them.

Yes, I do believe it's the R107 model prop.5500 is about 95-100 mph in smooth air. I see 110-115 at 6000. I could get a lot more speed if I pitched up a bit, but I prefer the climb performance.

I think the ULS will scratch the itch for a while at least.... What are you running for a prop now Larry? Does your zipper kit make 105 HP? What is the full throttle climb out rpm you are seeing? Thanks JImChuk
Yes, 105 hp through a 72" Luga 2-blade. Climb out at 5700 RPM, 1700 FPM on a cool day.

Funny how you think you have plenty of power until you find out you can have more..... JImChuk
Then you make a call to Hal for a Zipper kit...
