Maybe there is too much built in offset to your vertical fins? Didn't the Avids and 1-3 Kitfoxes have offset built into them??

(Edit: Doug- your tab is bent opposite mine - for left rudder input. So it would be correct to your engine rotation with a zero offset tail. But Joey's is the same as mine - right rudder input. His may be to counter an excessive tail offset. )

  3. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Deer vs 206

There was a similar incident in this neighborhood between a deer and a 210. The deer actually hit the plane in the tail with no damage forward of the h-stab. However the h-stab and elevator was mostly torn off on one side. The pilot was on roll-out after landing in the evening on a grass strip...

  4. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Roush Racing can do racecars but not airplanes

I heard that Jack Roush lost his left eye due to his injuries. Hopefully his pilot's license, too. WIth his money and power he needs to hire a pilot...

But, it looks like money and power can't buy skills or good judgment...

Congrats Russ. Next step is to fly that thing to Oshkosh next year.

(Other than me and Bandit none of these other wimps around here will fly in. Nothing but excuses with them... )

That would be one way of adjusting the peddles.

I have short legs so I used an additional cushion (with a lumbar support) behind the seat as a method of adjustment.

I am so pissed. Most of my pictures have been lost from my camera!! There are a few, but most of the airplane and airshow pictures are GONE!!!!!

Here are a couple that I have... (Warbird Memorial, parked at the UL barn, our campsite)

No there isn't. I agree, though, it would be tough to compete with the factory facility in building a show-plane...

Too bad you missed this time, Doug. We had a great week. Lots of flying in the UL field. A few lessons learned too. That field is a BITCH in a faster airplane... I may have a video of the ride along if it turns out.

I attended the "Avid Lunch" too. Met lots of new people and some old friends too. I have some pics of this coming...

Kitfox won the Lindy for their 7SS with the Rotec installation. Very pretty plane.

Just logged on after reading that article. A very good read.

I think you are probably partially correct, Leni, in your evaluation of 2-stroke operations and operators. That may be a huge factor.

The gist I took from the article is still that the basic design, Avid or Kitfox is still one of the safer designs flying.

Took the camper over this afternoon. Boy am I glad I have new tires on my 4x4. Mud. Lots of mud. They have had record rainfall in OSH last seen in 1912.

Bandit-- Take care when pulling in. As you pull up the driveway of that campground, I am located at the first right turn, ~100 yards in on the left. I have my green Dodge and 29' toy hauler parked with the rest of my chapter (UL75). Stop in and see us.

Still planning on flying the Kitfox over on Sunday.

I will try to take lots of photos to post...

  18. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Kitfox 4 Mixer

Kitfox 1-3 was a (poor) copy of the Avid, agreed. Another example of plain theft: The Euro(trash)Fox and it's renamed bastard son Aerotrek. Second generation theft is still theft.

The model IV started with an actual aeronautical engineering redesign that made a completely new plane. It differs greatly from its predecessors and is a vast improvement. This is common knowledge...

Sharing an assembly manual, photos, modifications, experiences or instructions is one thing, but technical engineering design data is where I personally draw the line.

I've had engineering ideas stolen from me. Until you have your own intellectual property stolen I guess it is a moot point to argue any further.

The original poster has solved his design problem. I wish him well with his scratch build and hope it flies great.

    Please guys, lets move on...

Not wanting to be flippant sounding, but the mixer assembly was one of the major improvements to the Kitfox line starting with the model IV. The engineering and R&D that went into this was fairly extensive and there is some intellectual property value here. This may be a reason that there are no drawings or technical details available for this component. Have you attempted to purchase one of these parts?

I can appreciate the work of scratch-building a plane like this, quite impressive.

Joey-- I know where you are right now.

Don't stop, keep flying. (was my mistake...) Do this for your friend, he would want it this way.

Remember your family and be safe, but don't stop the joy of what you have started. In his memory.
