Looks like a nice airplane from the photos. Maybe a little heavy with the diamond plate interior...

Price does seem a bit high (IMO) at $13k. That amount should buy a finished, flying Avid C with a 532 or even a 582 in it.

  3. Av8r3400 added a post in a topic Better braking

I have the MC5 masters in my Kitfox. The brakes (Matco) on my bungee gear were crap at the absolute best. When I installed the Grove gear, it had grove aircraft wheels and brakes already installed. Without changing the masters, my airplane now has brakes that could nose it over if I were to stomp on them hard. A night and day difference.

I truly believe that my Matco masters are fine, as is the geometry of the peddles (early Kitfox "C" style). The calipers and their inside mounting is the problem, IMO.

This is, of course, the ATV wheels and brakes on a Kitfox. I don't know what you have on your Bandit, Mark.

Hey there Joe. I thought that Ridge Runner looked familiar.

A fly-in around here just isn't complete without Joe showing up with his elbow on the window sill flying along under the overpasses... Speaking of which where were you yesterday for Merrill Airport day?

    Edit:

Oops, sorry. You were just using a photo of Joe's plane as an example of a Ridge Runner.

I was taught (for heavier aircraft) that GUMPS was the landing checklist:

G - Gas turned to proper tank
U - Undercarriage, retractable gear extended
M - Mixture, set to rich
    P - Prop(s), set to high RPM
S - Speed, in the proper arcs for gear and flap extension.

But, I don't think that's what Leni had in mind...

It was mentioned in the "Sad News" thread. I did not put up any other information. The n-number was visible in the video on the news story.

    Kitfox Crash
A Kitfox 7 (SS?) crashed on takeoff today in Caldwell, killing both occupants (man and woman). Presumably attending the factory fly-in this weekend.

The plane was based in California. Per the news story it was N624JS. I won't print the registration information (that we all can get) here. Does anyone know this plane or it's owners?

My prayers go out to the family(s) of the victims of this accident.

At least you ditched the snowmobile motor...

If you play with the pitch on the prop you can get a 120 mph cruse at the expense of the STOL performance. (That's how mine was pitched initially.) Now I get a "high" (5500) cruise of 105-110 and "normal" (5000) cruise of 95-100.

I still may ditch that heavy pos warp for Smitty's IVO to try...

The finished product. Here she is on the scales.

Since we all know that the bungee gear is shit, I used the Grove gear from my project plane and installed it on my flyer. Holy cow!!! What a difference in the brakes alone, much less the ground handling. Now all I need is a set of 8.50 x 6.00 tires to bring the AOA back to where it needs to be...

For the record, she only gained 8 (eight) pounds on the empty weight.

Doug - What's to inspect? Use plywood. It's lighter and cheaper.

The picture (attachment) seems to load, but it just sits there with the scroll bar complete, but the "thinking" arrows still going. I left it go for almost an hour (!) last evening thinking it was just a slow connection...

The first photo loaded fine, but the next ones didn't. Is there a max photo size (100KB or something)?

But now I can't upload photos anymore.

Russ - Stop. Take a deep breath. How can we help you fix the problem without needing to do major surgery like a nose dragger conversion?

Before you jump headlong into a major modification like this, what happened? Tell us the story.

Do you have a simple toe-in/toe-out problem that's making the roll out unstable?
Do you have a brake issue that makes them too sensitive or not sensitive enough?
Do you have enough training with an instructor to give you the confidence to control the plane?
Would the wider bush-gear work better to help your stability issues?

These planes are not uncontrollable widow-makers. Lets help you fix the problem not mask it...
