After my other post, I remembered that Rans used push pull cables as well.  I parted out a Rans S 12 and still had the cables up in the hangar.  Not sure if this one is strong enough, or long enough, but here is something like I was referring to.  The cable only really needs about 1 1/2" travel.  JImChuk
PS  with a cable like this or similar, you would probably end up using the rear bell crank though.

I should be out working on other things, but this topic got me thinking.  If I'm right in looking at the manual and such, there are 9 bolts in the control chain from the joy stick to the mixer control.  A push pull cable would have eliminated 6 of those along with the slop that will eventually come as things get looser with use.  Probably a reason Dean didn't design it that way, but I don't know.…  Kind of throwing this out here for discussion, but at the same time, don't want to hijack this thread.  One push pull cable  would have eliminated 2 bell cranks and the push tube that goes between them.  Food for thought I guess.  Maybe would have made for stiffer controls?   JImChuk

I wonder if a push pull cable might be a simpler way to connect from the joy stick to the mixer controls?  Like what Quicksilver MX used for the elevator, but much shorter of course.  Come to think of it, the Himax used short push pull cables for their aileron controls.  Here is an example of what I'm referring to.  The cable could run right along the edge of the seat and side of the fuselage.  Maybe a lot simpler than cables and pullys?? JImChuk
PS Thought I was just linking to the one red cable, but it goes to lots of images of different types of cables.  I'm referring to something like a boat steering cable, but smaller and shorter of course.

Tanks was made by Scribner plastics.  I think it's the one in this link.  I was at a friends place today, and he had a 5 gallon tank for a CGS Hawk that would have worked great.  He got it used a Oshkosh for real cheap.  I snapped a picture of it.  It was made by Nalgene.  JImChuk    www.scribnerplastics.com/utility-jugs.html

    Another Kitfox 3 for sale
Hi guys.  This one is not mine.  I'm helping a guy out that just moved up into my area.  I told him I would post an add for him on here.  He has a Kitfox 3 that he has decided to sell.  He told me $16500 was his price.  If my memory is right, the plane has about 110 hrs on it, has a 582 with a 3 blade powerfin prop.  I have not seen the plane in person, but it does look real nice in the pictures.  If you have any interest, his email is birdman-2   at   juno   dot  com   Here are the pics he sent me.  Plane is currently in central Mn.  JImChuk

I will have to take a look at that tank and see if I can make anything out.  JImChuk

If you can read and follow a poly fiber manual, covering an airplane is not difficult.  JImChuk

Wings and flaperons are sold.  The guys daughter wanted to keep the fuselage for a static display, so maybe she wants the seat as well.  The seat was actually home made like a net with 3/16" cord.  Maybe I can remember to get a picture of it.  JImChuk

That's the later style mount I was referring in my other post  that mounted on the sides of the engine.  JImChuk

Look in the for sale section, there is a Kitfox 3 kit in Florida for sale.  I will probably have a Kitfox 3 dash fuel tank for sale in a couple of weeks.  JImChuk

Depending on how high and big the cowl bump is, that is the way I'm thinking I would go.  Less work then the wedge and such as well probably.  JIm

I thought the newer mounts attached to the sides of the engine and didn't use the aluminum plate.  Maybe there are three different kinds of mounts, earliest ones used a flat plate, the one that attaches to the sides of the engine, and the one in your picture.  JImChuk

Different gauge, but I lowered the radiator on my Kitfox one, only to discover the gauge was reading 15 or 20 degrees high.  Might be worth confirming if the gauge is accurate.  JImChuk

That Grove gear looks familiar.  I sold a gear that same color to a gal in Ohio or somewheres in that area.  Any blue magic marker numbers showing how the mounts attach?  My gear was actually for a nose wheel setup.  JImChuk

Just one more question to check.  After youve flown and the engine is well up to temp, when you shut it down and leave it set a couple minutes, see how hard it is to turn the prop over by hand.  The way the cylinders were tightened down on some of these engines pushed the cylinder out of round and they would get pretty tight on the Pistons.  When this was corrected, some of the engines would get up to 200 more rpm.  Wonder if this is an issue.  JImChuk

Ya,  kind of low on the rpm.  With my 64 x 36, my static was about 2800 - 2850 climb out was over 3000

What is you static rpm with that prop?  I ran a 64 x 36 for quite a while.  Then a 62 x 40.  Engine makes more power after Jabiru rebuit it then before when it was new and broke in.  Have a 64" square tip warp on there now.  JImChuk

Maybe go leaner on the jet needle, and richer on the main jet??  4.4 gph is a bit on the high side for that slow of a cruise rpm. And a higher cruise EGT shouldn't hurt anything.  How even were your EGTs, one cylinder to the next?   JImChuk

No question, I have lots of stuff to keep busy with.  If I could just push myself to keep pounding away at the projects, maybe some of them would get done sooner.  Kitfox 4 fuselage is getting close to be ready to cover.  Maybe I can get it to the point of painting, and do this one at the same time while I have the spray booth setup.  That to me is the fun part any way.  KInd of the thing that really shows the progress.   JImChuk

Ya, just couldn't resist.  A friend of mine may be interested in it when it's done, so I went for it.  Eventually I will try to do the built thread.  Thanks Larry!... My wife says Thanks a lot! LARRY.   No not really, she just kind of shook her head, a slight roll of the eyes, and then forgot about it.  She is a good gal.  JImChuk
PS Larry, I am interested in the trailer

Nice TJay,  I usually cruise at 2800, and am doing about 87 in my MK IV.  Did you push it up to full throttle to see what maximum rpm you get straight and level?   What is your static rpm?  Climb out rpm?  JImChuk
