Thanks Bandit, I know there was one in Duluth as well, but he has moved away.  I even talked to the FAA in Minneapolis a week ago, and the gal told me to look on the FAA web site, but I didn't find it there.  I know I've seen it before, just cant find it now.  JImChuk

    List of DARs
I know I have seen one somewhere, but can't find it now.  Does anyone have a link to a list of FAA approved DARs?  Thanks,  JImChuk

The hardware store stuff is not any good.  At least not for your purpose.  Get the 3/8" shock cord from Aircraft Spruce.  JImChuk

So sorry for you Fred,  I've been there myself, and know how you are feeling.  No doubt lots of could ofs, should ofs going through your mind about now.  The important thing to keep in mind though is:  You're ok, and the damage is much less than it could have been.  Fix it, and fly again.  Again,  sorry for you.  JImChuk

Don't really have any pictures or vids of it.  Kitfox Dave had one on utube, it's for a Kitfox, so the seat truss is a bit different, but maybe you'll get the idea.  JImChuk

  6. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic 582 grey head

Just a couple of days ago, I took a never run grey head in to a local shop that does my work.  I told them to put in new seals and gaskets, and do a complete inspection of the engine inside and out.  As far as worth, that probably depends on whether you are asking a buyer or sellor.  New blue head is $5612 in my new LEAF catalog with no gearbox.  That adds another $1000-$2000 onto the price.  Add more for the B box with electric start.  Interestlngly, they no longer show a C gearbox for sale.  Just the B and E.  JImChuk

The tanks do add to the structure.  If there is no tank, then there are aluminum braces in those bays.  Also, when removing it, be careful not to damage the spars.  JImChuk

I have some Kitfox aluminum tanks, but as long as you went through the effort of opening up the wing, I would find a fiberglass tank to put in.  Aluminum tanks were subject to cracking from the flex in the wing.  I would run an add on here, TeamKitfox and barnstormers for a fiberglass Avid wing tank.  Kitfox tanks are slightly different but would probably work as well with some slight fairing.  I think Doug H had a post where he showed the differences in the wing ribs between the Avid and Kitfox.  JImChuk

Are they aluminum or fiberglass tanks?  Either way, I would try to slosh them first with KBS coatings fuel tank sealer, or something like that.  It would cost you  some dollars, and be a waste of time if it doesn't work, but maybe it will seal up and be well worth it.  JImChuk

Funny thing that you mention this.   About an hour ago, I measured my Kitfox 4 classic fuselage and the new Kitfox 3 project I just picked up.  Hooking on the rear wing spar pin, and measureing to the rudder hinge, I had 10' on both of them.  So at least in mine they are the same length.  the rudder is larger on the Kitfox 4, so if you measure to the back of the rudder, then the 4 is longer..  I've proved my self wrong again  :-) JImChuk

    Latest project. Kitfox 3
A while back, Larry advertised a Kitfox 3 project that was located near him in Wi.  I ended up buying it, and went down there yesterday to pick it up.  It was at Larry's hangar, so I got to meet him there.  Wow, everything was nice there.  Nice airport, nice hangar, nice Champ and of course the very nice Mangy Fox parked in it.  Oh what am I forgetting.  It was very nice to put a face to some one from the AFF forum, and he also was very nice!  Thanks again Larry for being so helpful in all of this.  Picked up a nice trailer while I was there to haul the Kitfox home on.  Only things not so nice was I left home before 6 AM, drove over 600 miles round trip and got home about midnight.  Saw lots of deer in Wisconsin, one from way to close.  It was getting foggy, the windshield was hard to see out of and all of a sudden my friend who went with me starts yelling.  "deer. DEer, DEER!.  Don't know how I didn't hit that deer, he was standing right in the middle of my lane, and didn't know what to do, but finally started to run away from me.  That gave me just enough room to not run him over.  Good thing that trailer pulls so nice and follows so well.  I was on the brakes for all they were worth.  At any rate,  I didn't feel like moving all that fast this morning.  Got everything unloaded though and got the plane in it's new home.  Here are a few pictures of the plane, one as we are driving down the road, another parked in my yard this morning, and then finally in the hangar.  Not sure what engine I will put on this plane, if I can keep it light enough, I'm tempted to put an HKS on it.  Or maybe a 912.  It came with a never ran 582 that I will have a local shop go through, for a complete internal inspection and new seals.  I have the mount for the 582 as well.  Any way, been a busy couple of days, but at least they were NICE!  JImChuk

Tried to find a picture, but didn't.  What I did was run a piece of 1 1/2" wide tape  on the tank, up the center of  window you show.  Marked flying on one side of the tape on the top of the rib, parked on the other. Add 3 gallons in parked position.   Put a short line on the fuel level, and marked 3 gallons on the tape.  Set the tail up on a stand to get it in flying position, marked that on the other side of the tape.  Add 3 more gallons, marked 6 gallons on flying side, lowed plane to parked, marked other side of tape at the 6 gallon amount.  Kept going like that until I had marks all the way up to 12 gallons.  Did the other tank the same way.  Not the prettiest, but worked.  But using that method, you can get as fancy as you want.  JImChuk

  21. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Reduced Dihedral

Ya, your right.  It's 12:30, I drove over 600 miles today, and picked up a Kitfox project.  Just winding down before I try to go to sleep.  My brain must be a bit muddled.  I suppose if you removed one of the doubler plates the wing bolts/pins fit through, redrilled and reattached a new one, that would work, but lots of work for a little looks, and probably reduced stability in the airplane for the effort??  JImChuk

Ed PM ed me today, and said I could post it here for the rest of you to see.  Here it is.  JImChuk
Jim,  Msg to apologize for not answering your call.  I don't know when you called but just found your voicemail last night.  I will return call someday.  I just had PET scan and the news is not all bad.  3 of 4 spots have shrunk, and they are talking about some more radiation soon.  I am very weak and shaky - sleeping a lot and no appetite.  I didn't have much fat to burn and I have lost about 35 lbs of muscle - 180 down to 145 now.  Trying to get some strength back.  Maybe by fall I can get some help to advertise my stuff, since I probably wont be able to build anymore.  Thanks so much for calling.  Tell AFF I am not gone yet! ;<)  Cheers,  Ed
