TJay,  I was looking through your posts to see what you had done for your oil catch bottle.  I thought at one time you had bought an aluminum one off ebay.  I did see the home made one you built near the beginning of this thread, but don't see it mounted on the firewall.  Well I thought I would get a pretty one from ebay myself, and it showed up today.  This is what I got.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170762746629?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT    I had asked them questions about the size of hose fittings, and they said 10 MM.  That seemed ok.  When it showed up, I got looking at the fittings, and where they go into the oil bottle, they are necked down to only 7/32"  diameter.  Real small if a fair amount of blow by is going by.  I would worry about the front oil seal blowing out if the crankcase pressure was to much.  At any rate, I ended up putting my old home made one back in.  I know it worked.   Might fire up the engine by the end of the week.  Waiting on a halls effect sensor for the tach, and an aircleaner.  JImChuk

Nose gear mains are different from tail dragger mains.  Looking from the side, on nose gear, the wheel is between the top mounting points.  On tail dragger, the wheel is at or just in front of the front attachment point.  Nose gear is also shorter.  JImChuk

That landing gear sure looks wide.  Is it wider than the bush gear you had on your other Avid?  Where did it come from?  JImChuk

Don't cancel the registration, that is worth something as well.  Might find a unregistered Avid with lots of parts for yours.  JImChuk

Ed,  I think you were drinking from the same bottle as TJay.  :-)  (must have been a big one ;-)  As far as the tanks go, I think someone had some fiberglass ones for sale just recently.  I would take those over the aluminum ones if it was me.  Aluminum tanks in Avid style wings had a habit of developing cracks.  Also, yours look like 6 gallon ones, going with the larger fiberglass ones would give more capacity as well.  Another thing on that topic to find out about is are the ribs Kitfox or Avid.  Even though both had an undercamber early on, (Kitfox 4 and later are different) the Avid and Kitfox ribs are not the same.  so a Kitfox tank will not fit good in an Avid wing and vise versa.  On a different topic, but still relating to your project, I remembered today about a guy I talked to in Wisconsin a year or so ago.  He had bought a Raven and it had some broken weld joints after it was trailered to him.  It turned out that the tubing had been brazed together.  Leni is the welding expert around here, and while I have brazed some thin steel together, and even some stainless steel, and both of them held, I would never have thought to try it on an aircraft fuselage.   I would look at the tubing joints first off.  Any way keep us informed.  JImChuk
PS.  TJay and Ed.  dump that bottle out! ;-)

Hope it works out for you!  It is rewarding to take a project and turn it into a flying machine.  I don't know what Jim TJay is talking about, it's not me.  :-)  Don't worry about the fabric, get a manual and follow it and you will do just fine.  And one more thing.  Don't hesitate to ask questions here.  We will all be rooting for you and will help any way we can.  JImChuk

    A model Avid on ebay
Here is a nice little Avid up for sale.  I talked to him last winter about this plane when I was down south for the winter.  Maybe would have bought it myself if I could have found a place to keep it down there.  Anyway, here it is.  JImChuk

  10. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Avid, Kitfox clone (Raven) on barnstormers

There was someone who reverse engineered the Kitfox or Avid enough to make up a set of plans that you could build a Raven off of.  I've heard the plans were not real good, but some Ravens have been built.  Here is a video showing one flying.  Notice the door shape.  Judging from that, it was an Avid A or Kitfox 1 that was copied.  I wouldn't doubt that Avid or Kitfox parts got used in some of them.   JImChuk

The bearings I ordered and got were a different #.  I used the # off my existing bearings.  I couldn't find a # on the seal, that's the reason for my original question.  Here is what I ordered through ebay.  Maybe Joey's hubs are different than mine.  The diameter of the bearing OD he shows is 1 25/32"  or 1.78125"  Which is just over 1 3/4".  Mine are just over 1 9/16"   JImChuk

Thanks Joey.  I did some searching, and that seal # is for a .875" ID.  Axels are 3/4".  Using the numbers gave me a lead, I was able to find .75" ID seals, and ordered a couple of them.  I have a set of Kifox hubs that didn't have bearings or the seals.  Got the bearings today.  Now the seals should be on the way.  Thanks, again.  JImChuk

Seal part number needed for Kitfox hub
Does anyone know the part # for the seal for the Kitfox hubs?  I know it's 1 9/16" OD, 3/4" ID, and 1/4" wide.  Can't seem to find one though.  JImChuk

Almost positive this is the one used on my Kitfox 1.  It might not fit the Avid though.  JImChuk

Here are lots of tanks for snowmobiles on ebay.  I would look through them, and the ones I think might fit, I would ask the sellers for dimentions.  JImChuk

I was just looking at an Avid mounted 582.  It's not in the plane right now so I couldn't make measurements against say my Kitfox 1 582 spark plugs up engine.  Just looking at it though, I would say the oil pump sits lower on the Avid plugs down engine than the Kitfox.   Another thought on this is the location Doug's and my pictures show the oil tanks on a couple different Avids that had 582 engines with oil injection.  That was the location specified by the factory.  Lots of Avids have flown with their oil tank in this location with no problems of oil flow to the oil pump that I am aware of.  Based on what I've just said, if my oil tank outlet was any where above the bottom engine mount bolts for height, I would not worry about it.  YMMV  JImChuk

Sorry, forgot about the fuel tank on your plane.  If that's your only fuel tank though, what is it?  9 gallons?  A pint and a half of oil will take care of 9 gallons at 50 to 1 mixture.  So any tank that holds a quart or more would easily have enough oil for that amount of fuel with some reserve oil left.  Maybe you can fit a tank on the front of the fire wall on the pilot's side?? Do you have any pictures of your engine/firewall area?  JImChuk
