    The wing spars were extruded aluminum, and the verticle piece and the outside are all one piece.   Some of the last Kitfox 1s and maybe all of the Kitfox 2s had them.  My Kitfox 1 has them.  I suppose it's a stronger design than a tube with a slid in stiffener.  As far as the doublers on the rib tails go, I fixed one rib tail that way on my Avid Flyer years ago, and it was fine after that.  Would have been nice if you had taken a picture of the underside as well.  How far forward do the doublers go?  I would think the seat truss could be straightened.  JImChuk

    For two strokes, I've been running Citco Sea and Snow since Pennsoil got to be ridiculously priced.  It works good for me.  Leni kind of sold it for me when he said him and his friends got a 55 gallon barrel for everything 2 stroke that they own.  If it worked good on snowmobiles turning 7000-9000 rpm, it should be good in my engine cruising around at 5500 rpm or less.  Running aereshell 100 in the Jabiru since the overhaul/rebuild  though.   JImChuk

    I was just looking at Summit racing's site for the 8" douglas wheels. Didn't see any 3 hole ones with the right diameter.  Maybe if someone can read the douglas part # off their Kitfox wheels, they would be easier to find.  I do know that I've seen them before, just can't find it now. Also, other things to consider with the wheels, is the width of the wheel, and offset of the center mounting plate.  JImChuk

    The wheels themselves would not be to difficult to find.  They are the regular Douglas wheels without the lugs welded on that hold the brake rotor in place on the later Kitfox wheels.  With these brakes, the rotor is fastened to the hub, not the wheel.  I had this same brake and wheel set up on my Kitfox 1.  If one buys new Douglas wheels, get the ones with the 3 holes in them, and then drill out the other 3.  This brings up another point.  Being as how you have this old style of brakes, none of the later Kitfox gear legs will work without some modification.  You will need to weld in a piece of steel that the brake assemble can bolt to.  With the Avids  and later Kitfoxes, the brake assembly bolts on where the axel comes out of the landing gear.  Here is a picture of an Avid gear leg.  It's on skis, but still you can see what I'm talking about.  JImChuk

    If you take a piece of maybe 1/4" thick steel plate, and drill 3 holes in it to match the ones on the front flywheel, you should be able to pull that one off pretty easy.  That's what I've done.  Put a nut or socket under the plate, and against the crankshaft end and evenly tighten the bolts.  Unless you are able to check to make sure the crank isn't twisted after the prop strike, I would leave the rest of the engine together and send it to someone who can do that for you.  They could inspect it and reseal it at the same time.  JImChuk

    When your are installing the fabric, you have two pieces of fabric meeting on the longeron.  A simple cut and round hole and the fabric fits around the tubes.  Same for the other piece of fabric.  usually bottom first and then the sides.  If you are using envelopes, of course then it's all different.  I do have to say that I like the Avid handles way better than the Kitfoxes  which are on the top of the fuselage.  JImChuk

    Would be happy to take measurements for you, but I won't be home for a while.  I didn't think Kitfox made different length gear legs in the different models.  The Avid MK IV was a couple of inches taller than their earlier gear, but it doesn't look like you have one of those on the right side.  They had a built in step on them.  Maybe someone homemade one of yours???  Can you get a picture of the difference if any  in the gear legs where the bungees wrap around them?  Not uncommon to see bent seat trusses in these planes.  A weak spot on the Avid Flyers as well.  I've infilled the triangles in the seat truss as much as possible with .040" steel plate to stiffen it up.   JImChuk

    Most likely would have been a sling seat.  That is a cloth and foam seat that ties off to the seat truss and the cross bar at shoulder height.  There are a couple of ties as well at the back/ bottom of the seat to keep it in place.   Kitfox used fiberglass seats, but I think the sling seat is more comfortable, as well as being adjustable.  JImChuk

    On thing I liked about the way I did mine is it opened up most of the muffler surface for a cabin heat muffler shroud.  No big deal though if you are going with hot water heat.  JImChuk

    I think my mounts cost exactly nothing.  Just some scrap aluminum angel, steel, and rubber belting I had laying around.  Maybe I should have hired out the welding, but that held up anyway.  JImChuk

    I don't believe the belly pan was shown in the manual.  More of a builder's "improvement".   I ran the fabric to the front of the fuselage. Then up the sides somewhat in front of the door as well.  If my memory is correct, the MK IV cowl was made to go under the door, and back about 4" on the sides.  I cut mine off right down in front of the door, but there was fabric behind the cowl at that point anyway.   My belly pan bends up on the sides maybe 3/4", just enough to get a couple of screws in the sides to help hold it in place.  It's main purpose is to protect the belly from exhaust and such, and it stops at the landing gear.  In this picture, you can see the fabric going in front of the door.  The cowl isn't fastened completely in place, also, you see I cut the cowl, and fiber glassed the back halves together, so it ends up being 3 pieces.  Also, you see some of the side of the belly pan.  JImChuk

    Here  is what I did when I built a heat shroud for the muffler for cabin heat.  Heat worked real good also.  Don't look to hard at the crappy welding in the one picture.  Brackets on the firewall were aluminum angel, rubber belting for the hangers, and plates welded on the ends of the muffler (poorly, but worked)  JImChuk

    My thoughts on heaters.  especially water ones.  When you want the heat the most is when the engine will be wanting to make the least extra of it trying to keep it's self warm.  I wander if maybe a coil of tubing wrapped around the muffler with a liquid in it that wouldn't burn or freeze that could be circulated through a radiator/oil cooler  with a fan behind it would be the best of both worlds.  Very hot temp from a muffler with lots of heat going through it what ever the outside temps, and no chance of CO2 from a leaking muffler coming through a muffler shroud.  Of course then the next question is:  how much extra will that weigh.  Any comments?   JImChuk

    I think ebay is like anything else.  There are crooks and good people as well.  Can't say I've ever really been burned on things.  I've also sold a couple of ultralights, a kitfox project,  and trucks, and lots of smaller things there, and I know I'm not a crook.  Mostly, it's buyer beware, but that's true in everyday life as well now a days.  JImChuk
