    That is actually a piece of 1/2" pex tubing that acts as a conduit for any wires going back to the tail, as well as something to tie the battery cables to.  Mainly the latter.  JImChuk

    On my recent MK IV rebuild I mounted the battery as far back as I could.  Ran a # 2 wire for the + side, and grounded it on the frame right next to the battery, but also ran a #4 wire to the front.  You could maybe go with smaller cable, but the Jabiru wants plenty of power, and longer runs cut that down.  The Jabiru starts just fine.  I'm using a lawn tractor battery, so it's not super light, but cheap.  JImChuk

    I know everybody's back is different, but I've found that the sling seat was way easier on my back.  With the fiberglass seat I had to put a pillow down in the small of my back,  or it would start to ache in a half hour or so.  It kind of felt like your rear was to far back, and you were leaning forward.  YMMV.  JImChuk

    I would think that if he is making 80 HP, and full throttle prop rpm is not over 2500,  he should be able to turn 3 blades.  Of course they should be facing the right way......If he is getting a different prop, does that mean that he was only able to make 60 MPH with his set up the way it was?  JImChuk

    I had to change the test area on my Avid MK IV when I first got it.  Had to have the FAA inspect the plane, because it had a pre 1991 registration.  They changed some of the regs than and I know that later major changes were not such a big deal as they had been before.  Probably the same with moving the test area.  JImChuk

    I believe this is less critical on the Kitfox with a plugs up engine than an Avid with plugs down, but I always filled directly into the lower hose and as the engine cavity fills up, the air is pushed out the upper hose fitting.  Bleed them also just to be sure, but I've never got any air out when I filled at the top of the hose going to the lower fitting.  After both hoses are full of oil, I hook the hose back on to the little bottle.  JImChuk

    Looks good TJ,  I did notice the prop though.  Maybe it was before he set it for pitch, but I noticed that the Warp Drive serial # tag was on the outside of the blade.  They are always on the inside from what I've seen.  I think that would cut down on the thrust a bit if they were backwards???   I did see a guy from Hog Air with a Harley engine on a test stand at Sun and Fun in 2003.  Sounded good and it blew the brush around quite a bit.  Never saw anyone actually flying one though.  JImChuk

    I like the idea of the bungees for the reduced weight it would give.  I know you didn't mention it, but at the risk of hijacking where you wanted to go on your post, have you considered the rubber donuts (hydrozorb??) as a third alternative?  JImChuk

    USPS if it fits it ships boxes can be a real deal.  A few years ago, I was selling a bunch of big truck parts.  I sold a couple of sets of brake pads that had to stretch the box to fit, but the post office took it.  That box probably weighed at least 40 lbs, and it still shipped for the set priority mail price.  I think it was just under $12.00 at the time.  And like you say, the boxes are free.  JImChuk

    I would add this to the mix.  My Kitfox 1 gets off the ground quicker than the Avid MK IV did.  But then it weighs 85 lbs less and had 2' extra wing.  Both had adverse yaw, but if you lead with the rudder, and use the slip/skid indicator, you get used to it.  They are both short coupled and therefor are a bit squirley on the ground.  The Kitfox with the round cowl is harder to see over both on the ground and in the air.  JImChuk

    When I order from LEAF (fairly often) I always ask about the shipping costs and tell them I want the cheapest option.  Often it's been shipped in an envelope with USPS for less then $5.  I'm only in the next state over from them, so it always gets there fairly fast.  JImChuk

    I guess there is a chance they are legit, if you knew someone over there who you trusted to handle the money, shipping, and have a look at them, maybe.  But I would be scared of anything.  Although, I once sent a guy 2000 miles away that I had never dealt with $8000 for an engine, and it all worked out good.  You pay your dues and takes your chances......     He says it's kit # 857.  I believe that is the serial #.  That is how Avid numbered their kits, one after the other.  I couldn't pull up the pictures to look for myself, but a couple of things you might be able to see in the pictures is how the doors latch, and if the tubing above and behind the seat is made to have a small shock absorber mounted there that acts as a door hold open.  The Mk IV changed both of those items from earlier models.  Earlier models had the door latch in the front bottom corner, MK IV was latched completely differently about 1/3 back on the door.  Also there is baggage compartment and a bunch of different bracing plates added around the rear wing carry throughs on the MK IV that aren't there on earlier models.  Here are some pics of my MK IV showing some of these things.  In the first picture, see the round tube welded to the bottom of the door frame about 1/3 back. That is for the door latch.  Next picture shows the attachment point for the door hold open as well as some of the bracing around the rear wing carry through.  On that fuselage, I had extended the width of it, that is what the extra outside tube is that goes around the door opening.  Last picture shows door latch in place, and the door hold open mounted where it goes.   JImChuk

    I guess I'll add a bit more to it.  The Avid came first, the Kitfox 1 was a copy with some changes of the Avid A model.  Avid A - Avid mk iv models all had undercambered wings, standard length on them was just under 30'.  Kitfox 1 - 3 models had undercambered wings as well and wingspan was almost 32'.  Both Avid and Kitfoxes had flat bottomed flaperons.  Kitfox 4 and later have a nearly flat bottom wing and larger asimetrical (curved top and bottom) flaperons.  As was mentioned, the Kitfox 4 uses different control assemblies for the flaperons to minimize adverse yaw, also, I believe it's 9" longer between the tail and the wing then earlier models.  They also used aluminum pieces that rivet to the rear of the wing rib for the flaperon hangars, the earlier Kitfoxes and Avids extended the rib tails out of the wing, and the flaperons hung off of them.  Very first Kitfoxes didn't have them, but very soon Kitfox went to the round cowl with bumps on it, as if there was a radial engine inside it.  At first glance, that is probably the first thing that will tell you it's a Kitfox.  JImChuk

    I have always had a good experience dealing with Darrel at Warp Drive.  I don't doubt that he would try to convince me that a Warp drive is better than an IVO, but I think I can believe him if he says : this Warp drive prop should work in your application.   I have a 70" or 71" LH taper tip Warp hanging on the wall at home.  Has new blades, used hub, SS inlaid leading edge protection.  Also have a 70" square tip LH used but good shape.  I'm not around there right now, but if it came down to it, I could get my son to ship one.  PM me or give a call  218- seven five zero- 38fiftyone.  JImChuk   PS  spinners for both of them also......
    PS PS  just ran across  a picture of the square tip, and it's a 68" diameter.
