That is not bad at all then.  That should be good news to Avid and early Kitfox people.  JImChuk

If that was for both of them, that's not a bad price.  If it was for one, that's about what I would have guessed.  JImChuk

As far as the topic to post under, I suppose the one you had in the Avid Flyer General Hangar should work as well as anywhere.  The list has been pretty quiet lately.  (Come on Ed, we need you back with us)  As far as I know, the flaperons have the aluminum tube with foam ribs, and the aluminum skin glued and riveted on.  Never completely pulled one apart either.   JImChuk

Welcome to the group.  Flaperons are a bit of a difficult item to come across it seems.  Not sure anyone really posted up any plans on how they did it.  I have a set of them, but probably want to keep them with the wings I have.  They are also from a C model.  What is the matter with yours?  Pictures always help.  JImChuk

Right your are Doug,  27 1/2"  center to center on the spars,  and I know better as well.  My brain must have shifted into neutral part way through that reply.  Maybe that groove worn in from previous times.  JImChuk

All Avids have the spars on 27 1/2" on center front to back, (Kitfoxes do as well) so in a way, all wings would fit more or less.  There are speed wings (shorter and flat bottom) STOL wings, longer, under cambered bottom and with thinner walled spars and ribs on 18" centers, and heavy hauler wings, longer with under cambered bottoms with thicker walled spars and ribs on 12" centers.  If your rib tails are in bad shape, those can be replaced.  It would require recovering the wings of course.  Here are pictures of  partial ribs that would be attached to the back of the spar to replace the rotted out rib that is there.   JImChuk

Take a look in the files section.  There is a build manual for the MK IV.  I didn't look, but I'm guessing it contains info on rigging floats.  My manuals have that section in them.  I'm guessing there wasn't any difference in how the floats were rigged from one model to the other.  JImChuk

I built the ones in the picture myself.   I have built some others for people but it's not something you couldn't do yourself.  I'm pretty busy with my own projects as it is, so it's not like I'm looking for work.   I would say, find out what your have, and what you really need, and then go from there.  None of it is rocket science.  It can be done....  JImChuk

Need an IVO ultralight prop hub
Hi all,  I'm in need of an IVO prop hub, the type with the screw adjuster.  Actually what I really need is the 5/8" X 4" disc that goes up against the prop shaft.  Anybody got anything like that sitting on the bench collecting dust?  Send me a PM, or give a call.  218-two five four-24 zero four.  Thanks,  JImChuk

    Brake slave cylinders needed
Hi all,  Thinking about going with double puck brakes on my plane, wonder if anyone has an old set of the wheel cylinders laying around gathering dust on a shelf.  PM me if you do.  Thanks,   JImChuk

  13. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Sea Foam in wing tanks OK?

Well like I said, I'm not sure if it's accurate or not regarding the makeup of MMO.  Could be though.  I suppose though, the point could be: do we really know what we are adding when using an additive?  Are we are just taking some company's word on it, and they have a vested interest in saying it's great.  I do know that the fuel with the octane booster in it ate through my plastic bottle, when regular untreated fuel didn't.  JImChuk

The stick does work fine, but have an AnP looking the plane over, and he wants to make sure all the SBs are addressed.  I can't show that it's right if we don't understand the wording of the SB.  My Kitfox 4 manual uses different part # even though they are mostly the same parts.   JImChuk

Kitfox 1 control part names (from manual)
Hi guys,  trying to find a build manual on line for Kitfox 1.  Mostly all I need to know is the name of the parts in the joystick and linkage attaching to it.  Trying to make sure all  SBs are complied with on the Kitfox 1.  This is the one that I'm wondering about. www.kitfoxaircraft.com/images/servicebulletins/SB-6A.pdf
It says to follow the drawing in the SB, but there is no drawing in the SB.  This is SB #  6A.,   JImChuk
PS  guess that link to a pdf didn't come through.  Here is the list of SBs.  www.kitfoxaircraft.com/index.php/service-bulletin

Interesting that you mention MMO.  I almost did in my post.  Here is something I found out about it.  Not sure it's accurate, but see the full report here.  https://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviation/brief2.aspx?ev_id=20020916X01610&akey=1   The part in the report that relates to this topic is this.  According to the FAA inspector, the additive that was added to the fuel was Marvel Mystery Oil. An empty 1 gallon can of Marvel Mystery Oil was found in the operator's trash. Instructions found on the can stated that the correct ratio for mixing with fuel was 1 part additive to 100 parts fuel. The contents of Marvel Mystery Oil were 74 percent mineral oil, 25 percent stoddard solvent, and 1 percent lard.
Mineral oil, stoddards solvent, and lard.  What could go wrong with that.....  Not saying that report is true, but apparently that's what the NTSB guy who wrote the accident report though.   JImChuk

The plates were epoxied together and the machine screws were epoxied in as well.  That was a repair I did without uncovering the wing.  JImChuk

I'm scared of adatives, can't really give you a reason why, but that's how I feel about it.  If I was worried about cleaning things out, I would do it manually.  YMMV  JImChuk
PS  one reason I don't like addatives is this.  Had some fuel with an octane booster in it.  Had a skinny plastic bottle that I would sometimes use for testing fuel to see if it had any alcohol in it.  Did a test with this octane booster enhanced fuel, and when I came back and looked at it, I found that it had melted a hole in the plastic at the bottom and the fuel was gone.  Never did that with the regular untreated gas I tested.  YMMV

  20. 1avidflyer added a post in a topic Repair of flapperon hangers on a Kitfox

I've never done a Kitfox, but the Avid is almost the same.  Here are some pics of rib tails I built to Avids.  With the repair parts in the pictures, you remove everything of the rib behind the spar, and part of the cap strip ahead of the spar.  Glue in the new part, and that fixes it.  Another method I used on my Avid MK IV is shown in this bunch of posts.  Maybe this will answer some of your questions, or produce more of them..... :-)  JImChuk
PS  it seems I've answered this same question earlier in the week.  Did your read my reply?

On the Avid, pulling in just a bit of flaps will cause the nose to go down.  Actually, the more flaps you pull in, the more the nose wants to go down.  I'm sure it's the same on the Kitfox 4.  I trim my Avid that way all the time.  I've also noticed that with several Avids, pulling just a bit of flap made the plane fly better, more stable.  Not sure why.   As far as the size 14 shoes, I see that Trent Palmer is flying barefoot in his latest video.  :-)  JImChuk

    CFI list
A guy in a nearby town bought an Avid, and called asking where he could get instruction in it.  I know I have ran across a list of CFIs somewhere, but can't find anything now.  Anyone know of the list I'm talking about.  I looked on FAA and EAA sites, but didn't find what I was looking for.  JImChuk

I wouldn't consider plexiglass at all.  I don't believe you could ever bend it around for the windshield without it breaking.  Unless it's melted in a mold to the right shape.  Then the windshields are 1/8" thick.  Had one for a Kitfox.  Went to install it, lifted one corner up about an inch, and heard a plink sound.  Crack just like that.  That was about $500 went right out the window there.  It came with a partly finished kit I bought, sure am glad I didn't buy it myself, I would have..... I don't know..... not been happy. Others have had similar experiences.  JImChuk

Here are a couple of topics on how it's been done  before.  I was looking for the posts showing how I made the long rib tail repair parts in the second link, but didn't find them.  Just to be clear also, the Kitfox ribs are just a little different from the Avid ribs, but not by much.  JImChuk
