So as I'm driving home from looking at the kit, my truck starts making a clunk clunk sound.  Took it to the shop, $3k in parts and labor.  Devine intervention?  Coincidence?  Hmmm.
Its the useful load more than the speed.  There will be another one.  Besides I really need to concentrate on my IFR rating (Dassault pays $80 per flight hour towards IFR rating as a work benefit), and my IA.
I know I dont have to have the flight control upgrade to fly, believe me I tossed that back and forth a hundred times.
You guys are right, this is a great deal for someone, sorry to disappoint.

    Gents,
Thanks for all your help, but this aircraft just isn't for me.
I've added up all the wants and needs to make this aircraft fit my mission, and its just too much time and money.  I'd spend more money upgrading this one than I would buying a complete IV.  That IV flight control upgrade is over $2000.  So now I have a $5000+ kit that still needs ribs and winglets, and a bigger tail. And I'd still have a 1050 gross fox that flies 20mph slower than a IV.  I've seen model IVs pop up for less than $10k with FWF, Grove gear, Electric trim, quick build wing, and more.  Heck, there is a IV built and flying with a 912 on Barnstormers for $18k!
From previous posts I'm seeing that with these mods I will be well over 550lbs.
I need a model IV-1200 or newer, otherwise I'm just wasting my time. I suppose I could buy and flip it, but that's not for me either,
All of you were instrumental in keeping me from buying a mistake, despite the encouragement to buy.
Give him a call if you want it.  Otherwise he's going to list it on Barnstormers or TeamKitfox.

I took a look at it today.  Here is a list of observations:
    1) It's for sure a model 3, no doubt in my mind.
    2) Kit is incomplete, not much for extras.  Missing ribs, wing tips, maybe more.
    3) No covering, no FWF, no upgrades whatsoever (except dual brakes)
    4) He has confused the models.  He HAS a model 3, and has a set of model 4 flaperons and model 4 ribs.  Just two model 3 ribs.
5). Everything appears to be in good to great condition.

You guys are making me nervous.  So is it not possible to come in under 550lbs with a 912, bush gear, and model IV vertical?

What was your net weight gain switching from the stock gear to this set?

I may have found another difference between the 2 and 3:  The vertical stab and rudder ribs are lined up on the model 3 photos, but the model 1 and 2 photos show the ribs are staggered.  Can anyone confirm?

i like the idea of the lower compression engine.  It's smoother on start-up and shut down eliminating the stress on the mounts.  Less chance of detonation. It also does not require a slipper clutch which saves weight.  Some have also reported that the big bore high torque outperforms the 912s or 912uls.

    Omit the dual brakes
    912 Without Slipper Clutch
    Prince Prop
Minimal Instruments with IPad for Nav
No interior besides a seat cushion
    No Lights
Carbon Fiber and Titanium substitutions where I can
I think I can do it.

My hope is to have a basic operating weight without "crew" of 550lbs with a 912.  So empty would need to be 530 to 540.
I've read of some model 3's weighing in at 525lbs with a 912, so I think I'm realistic.
Weight and Safety are my two primary concerns.

Not sure about any of that.  He says "unbuilt".  No availability to view tonight,  so it will be Monday or Tuesday when I go take a look.

Where should I be looking for corrosion on the kit?  Where are the hot spots?  Lower tubes on the fuselage?  Struts?  Spars?

Passing through Elko, should I stop at the Zipper engine shop?
Good thing about a KF-3, 80hp should be more than enough, right?
Would a big bore 104hp do some damage?
    Uh oh, thread drift

In Salt Lake City.  Headed home on I-80 in just a few minutes.  Might be able to view it tonight if the seller is available.  Although the Bronco's season opener is tonight.  Hmm...

    Jim,
Ok ok ok!  I'm PayPal-ing a hold deposit right now...
Found this model 2 on a Google Image search.  Notice the difference in the door shape and tubing configuration under the door. I think this one in Reno really is a 3.

Here are the two photos that he's sent.  The S/N he provided was based on the data tag in the photo.

Contacted him, and we have agreed to a date to view it.
If I get it, then I get it.  If not, then it wasn't ment to be.
Thanks for the help everyone, especially Ed.

Kitfox II vs III visual clues in kit form?
    Hey Guys,
There is an unbuilt Kitfox II kit in Reno for sale, $3k asking.  The KF-II doesn't fit my mission, but I'm going to give the guy a call just in case there is a remote chance that it's incorrectly advertised and might be a KF-III.   Can someone provide a couple visual clues that would indicate which model; spar wall thickness, vertical stab chord or span, or something like that?

    Thanks!

    Ended, unsold.
Same guy that's "eager to sell" a black Kitfox IV with 582 for $11,000 on that other kitfox website.  Might be a steal if the workmanship is acceptable.  Not many details.  Too far away for me.
