I’m doing something similar but I planned on building new wings and two new spars and reuse everything else.
my thinking was that the old and new spar will have different strength depending on separate stiffener or not.
this iS my 4 new spars with stiffeners

Yes you are correct about the bulletin but I still want to replace that leaky tank.
I have now purchased a aluminum tank from kitfox and I think I will install it behind the seat and then put the battery in place for correct CG

    New brakes
I’m gonna replace my old matco sl cut brakes on my kitfox 2, I found some cracks in them.

Matco wrote this to me, has anyone replaced with this setup?

That is the old WHLB5 brake assembly.  You can replace the entire brake assembly with the WHLB5-3 or the WHLB5-7

The advantage would be the replacement of the brake plate, linings, and changing your stationary brake shoe from aluminum to steel.  You would need th spacer on your axle that goes between the brake plate and the inboard wheel bearing to be longer by the difference between your aluminum brake plate and the new steel version (bout 1/8 inch)

    Replace header tank
I want to comply with SB#29 on my Kitfox 2 with the large plastic header tank and there are a few options..
    SB#29:
    https://kitfoxaircraft.com/images/servicebulletins/SB-29.pdf
    1. Keep the existing header tank and route the fuelines from the wingtanks in to the filler neck

    2. Remove front header and install small tank as the SB describes behind the bagage compartment with a high mounting place
    3. Remove front header and install small tank behind seat as the newer Kitfox´s
    4. Should o burn the small plastic tank because it is likely to start leaking and buy and aluminium from Kitfox ?

    Determening wing twist
I´m in the process of building new wings for my Kitfox 2 and i also want to replace my 6 gal aluminium tanks to new 13 gal fiberglass tanks from Kitfox. When ordering the tank they want me to specify the wing twist and i have looked in the manual for advice an found that placing a block that is 1 3/4" under the tip end of the front spar when setting up to build the wings will give the correct twist.
Also after reading on this forum it seems that this gives you 1 degree of twist in the wing....and after setting it up in my cad and making the measurements it seems to be right.
Does everyine else agree :), its kinda big investment in thoose tanks and i want to be sure that i get the correct twist.

    Building new wings
I´m in the process of building new wings for my kitfox 2 due to some damage to the spars. I have decided to build brand new wings with new spars from kitfox.
Currently i´m looking for material and Kitfox has most of it, the first thing i will do is to fabricate the ribs and i need material for this.
I have looked on my wings and i looks like it is 5 mm 10 ply for the ribs same for flaperon hinge and without and the cap strips seems to be 3 mm 5 ply.
Does this seem about right to use this material and thinkness?
Also how much wing twist is original in the wing?, i plan on buying new wingtanks and kifox wants me to specify the twist

I have also modified my cowling for kf2 but it came out a bit heavy I think.

I would be interesting to know the weight of the original cowling peace’s in total.

  17. Peter_se added a post in a topic Advice on rust

Good advice, would that be riveted and glued alu sheet or welded steel?
I wonder what the thickness on the lower tube is?
I guess if I leave it as is the risk is of bending the tube in case of an hard landing, but then again the rust is where the top tubes are triangulated.

  21. Peter_se added a post in a topic wing repair?

I’m in about the same boat but I will change the spars on both wings...actually building brand new ones.
one wing has the front spar that needs to be replaced and the other wing has the rear spar that needs to be replaced...and I also want to have 13 gallon fiberglass tanks installed.
i will change all spars to get same inserts and flex in them, most likely I will to all new ribs so by the time I’m done I will have 4 wings :)
im buying my spar and inserts from kitfox
