That looks about how mine are routed and I have 175 hours on them and they are holding up fine.

I don't have a picture Travis but it is very tight fished thru the motor mount and the exhaust, which I wrapped and also put fire sleeve on the 1" hose where it all but touches the exhaust. I just followed the pictures in the MK IV manual.  If you don't get any pxs from others I will try to get some pictures for you.  It does work, but it looks like it should go some where else and there just isn't a good option.

I like the drywall compound to finish with because it makes it easier to get the finish flat and etc.  Also with the plug method a fair amount of the finishing is done after you lay up the glass.  Take a look at "Finishing a Composite Airplane" sorry no link with IE on this site.  I will post some more pictures when I get to that stage.

Ed I use drywall mud for the final smoothing (the white color over the foam) and then just apply paste floor wax before the layup.  Also UVA mold release can be used or hair spray over the wax.  Meguirs makes a mold release wax called Mirror Glaze 88 that is available at most auto parts stores which is a paste wax.  The nice thing about the foam is that it is easy to carve.  I also use X-30 liquid foam to fill voids and the likes, a 1 qt kit is more than enough to do a cowl

    Cowling building
Cowlings can be hard to find for some projects but they are not hard to build with epoxy and glass.  I am in the process of building one for a friends Piet at this time and have also built one for my Q-2. I am attaching some photos of the Piet cowl mould that is in the process at this tme.  And no, I am not interested in builiding cowls for anyone but it really is a fun and easy process.

  7. wypaul added a post in a topic Howdy, I'm Art Johnson in Nevada and I just bought an Avid C

Welcome Art look here for the build manual and etc.  Oops, keep forgetting linking won't work with IE on this site, anyway look in the Avid Flyer General Hanger on this site and you will find most of what you are looking for.  Is this a completed and flying aircraft, N-number, airworthiness certificate and etc. or is this a work in progress?  There is also some info in the Yahoo site files section that will be helpful but this site has a lot of knowledgeable folk here to help you thru the process.  How about posting some pictures so we can get an idea where you are in the process.

Joey, the Avid drawings are on the Yahoo site files section.  I don't seem to have any pictures of mine that I can lay my hands on.

  9. wypaul added a post in a topic plane camping , Sullivan and McGregor

I think that they had the fly-in earlier, BCP held theirs somewhere else this year which escapes me at the moment.  I have a friend in Canada that may try to fly in also.  Thinking about three weeks from now but I will get on the ball and see if I can get the prop spinnin', does that sound like something that might work for you?  Any one else interested feel free to chime in here.

Both trips sound great Chris. Look for the red pickup a couple of miles south of Yellow pine in Johnson Creek.

I have to admit that I really enjoy snow and the mountains.  Let's start a dialog about an AvidFox flyin next summer in Idaho.  There are a few good options in addition to Johnson Creek.  I am fairly open as far as the date goes.

Here is a short video from the Johnson Creek trip

I didn't get the neutral density lense until after I had left for my trip and thus the hocky sticks.

The weather was interesting to say the least.  Flew Friday, none on Saturday and then today plenty of flying, east then west and finally south from McCall down toward Boise and around the lower end of the mountains by Sun Valley.  Fun trip for sure but not enough flying.  More later.

Think positive Leni, there are a lot of good places to eat in the Houston area.  And there is What a burger. I used to enjoy going there in the winter mostly.

We will be arriving Thursday afternoon. This is not the BCP fly in they are having that somewhere else this year. We will look for you.
Sure will be fun to get everyone down there. Let's set a date for next year and make it happen.
