That is mighty neat Ed, I wonder if it is still around some where. They only made them from 1925-1933 a total of 199 were built. There is said to be one in Jackson, WY that is still flying but I have not see it. Guess I will have to get busy and research into that.

The one that was here had three P/W 450 HP each and cruised about the same speed as my Avid. It sips a mere 60 g/h.

Just an unrelated side note, we had a fellow come out for a ride that said he flew Beavers during the Vietnam War, I didn't know that we used them there and Korea also. Fun weekend for sure.

    Ford Tri-Motor
Our chapter hosted the EAA's Ford Tri-motor this week.  I logged .3 hrs right seat time and what a fun plane to fly.  Brought the Q-2 over to get a picture under the wing but did not make it over with the Avid.

Saw your plane on the ramp here in Casper and wondered who's it was. Great adventure in a new plane. I agree, these are fine little planes.

I think that is what I would do. Epoxy is my choice for building using the pug method (mold less ) it's easy to sand and fill. Just finished making a cowl for a friend's Pietenpol this winter and built one for my Q2 when installing the Jabiru. PM me if you would care for some suggestions and pictures and I will send my phone number so we can talk. What fun, wish I was there to help.

You can use spray brake cleaner to clean the brake fluid off the pad. Works great.

But dang, you won't get the Ichiban Moto stickers to help cover that big hole is the side of your cowl.

Yes, it will work for any plane.  The range for any given plane is set by the designer and this spreadsheet will not help with that but is great for calculating the W/B.  All that is required is that you plug in your own weights and measurements.  I built this spreadsheet when I was changing engines in my Q-2 and was figuring out where to place the engine to achieve proper W/B so it also contains a section called "move something" that allows the user to see the results of moving anything from a battery to an engine from one location to another.  I will be happy to send a copy to anyone that would like one.  Just drop me a PM and I will get it out.  There are a lot of good CG spreadsheets out there that will do the basics. This is the only one I know that has the Move Something capabilities. And yes it will work with new fangled airplanes with nose wheels.  Just plug in your numbers for the training wheel where it says "tailwheeeel.

I sent you a PM with a spreadsheet attached that I wrote that will make it easy to do the WB.  And yes the only WB that are of a concern are the loaded numbers because the plane does not fly without pilot and at least some fuel to get airborn.

Ed the jig was very simple but it is build on a piece of 1/2" plate that I don't care to ship. Somebody can build their own in less than an hour with those measurements.

I have had some requests for the F7A's and I am no longer selling them.  Here is a picture with measurements if anyone is interested in making their own.

Ed I just looked at the Raven plans and they call for a nylon bushing.

McMaster Carr sells the bearings in several different materials including Rulon J. I think that polyethylene would be a better choice if you want to try making your own but McMaster has those also.

I can not say for sure Ed. If cost was not a factor RULON J would be my first choice, very slick and wears well. Used them in my Q-2 when I replaced bearings but they were smaller and just a few bucks each.

  20. wypaul added a post in a topic Has anyone replaced the rear prop shaft seal on C box

Just completed replacing the rear prop shaft seal on my 912 and used aftermarket seal with great results. Built a puller using all thread and a few nuts that worked just fine.

Appears to be an early J2200, what is the serial # and do you know if the con rods and any other upgrades have been done?

You will like the MK IV these are great little planes. Welcome to the Avid club.

The MK IV had it on the left. was that because the plane was designed around clockwise turning 912,  I don't know.  Just an opinion but I don't think that it matters that much as the plane was made for the 582 and other options.

    Oil Cooler
If have been having oil temps the ran from 225-250F from day one with my 912 installed in my MK IV Avid.  The normal was about 235F on warm or even cool days.  Although this is only somewhat high the oil always appeared "cooked" at and before oil change.  I purchased an oil cooler about a year ago and have finally installed it during the last week.  Oil temperature now runs about 160 and the high has been 172o F this has been with the ambient temperature in the 40's and 50's.

The cooler is a plate style transmission cooler (B&M) which is attach to the back of the radiator with the Hayden ties and I made a "gasket" from some HDPE material that I had.  Pretty easy project if anyone has been thinking about a cooler for a 912 Rotax install.
