If I recall correctly with the MK IV this is just a construction technique for mounting and rigging the flaperons and wings. If you follow the manual it will work just fine.

Well according to that gauge it was a " fresh breeze" here today and the little Avid handled it just fine.  These little planes do amazingly well in the winds.

Offer still stands at least it would make a starting point.  It is easy enough to make your own pattern with heavy wrapping or freezer paper.

Wade if you don't find something I have an old one I can trace onto paper and send to you.  Mine is a MK IV but they should be close.  My kit came with the shape already traced onto the Lexan not to sure about earlier models.  It was over sized and required a fair amount of fitting.
Oops, I bet you are talking about a KF.

Mid thirties here today painting my newly covered gear legs in my unheated hangar.  Not to bad really, that Poly Tone is amazing stuff.  The manual says below fifty it will not dry but they are in California.  I've paint in thirty degree weather several times with good results.  I do tent it up over night and get the temperature up to the forties to drive off the solvents so it is ready to paint the  next morning.  Last coat of paint goes on tomorrow.  Actually it is dry to the touch by the time I get the gun clean.
Glad that cold stuff missed us this time.

Just to muddy the waters a bit more, not all Epoxy primer paint will stand up to MEK.  If you are buying local have the seller call the manufacturer to verify.  I found out the hard way.  Poly Fibers work for sure but they only have two colors.

Well we have the Flaperon repair almost complete.  Here are a trio of photos.  We had to build four ribs and replace about a foot of .016 aluminum.  Interesting little project.

Ok, thanks for your comment. The issue that you bring up is valid and with that said we have the main struts totally covered with wood and fabric, the fuselage and wings are also covered.  I guess that if I lived near salt air and/or flying off floats I would be more concerned but where I live and fly the climate is very dry.  Also I have no problem drilling out rivets for inspection.  Once again I sincerely  thank you for your concern and comments.

I use the teflon paste with good results, would not use tape because there is a slight chance of getting a small piece in your fuel system.

The weight gain was right at 1.5 lbs.  I used .016 aluminum. The climb performance certainly improved but it is hard to judge the amount.  Also with less drag The takeoff surely improved slightly and the landing roll will increase slightly.  I still need to fair the gear legs again and I gained right at 5 mph. when I did that last time.  The 10 miles per hour will help a lot when I fly with my buddy in his Kitfox IV but he will still be faster although I can out climb him.  That will be 115 mph when I pull back to 5500 rpm for cruise.

I just taped (Gorilla tape) and riveted the trailing edge and then shot in some spray foam.  Even without the foam they did not move in flight.

I used a steel brake line with flared on nut and installed a fitting to match inside the wing.  Cheap and easy to replace.  Not sure if I have pictures but I will look.

cut the tube to length discard the other end or save it for a spare.

Well I flew with the new jury strut and HS strut fairings and was pleased with the results.  I was hoping for 3 mph and picked up 5-6.  I will need to re pitch the prop now.

    Refer to SI-016-R5 section 3.3

You are correct Jenki that is what the manual appears to state.
All that said if you refer to SI-912-016 Rotax states 50 hrs when using 100LL and then states 25hrs when using Primary 100LL.
In addition they state the when not operating in ideal conditions service time should be shortened.
I will continue to make my changes in accordance with this advice because my engine is not operated in a perfect condition and use 50 hrs and 25 if I run 100LL.

Randy the info is in the maintenance manual  05-20-00 clearly states 50 hrs. For unleaded.  For 100LL it is not quite so clear but refer to SI-912-016.  I stand by the 25 hour figure for 100LL because that is the lower figure stated.  It would be nice if Rotax would clear this up.  I would give Hal a call and see what he recommends for his Zipper Kit engines.  If I recall correctly he also recommends 50 hrs.

40 hours if running unleaded and 25 if running 100LL and Decalin. iI think it may be in the owners manual.
fat fingers it should be 50 hours for unleaded.

Very nice, built to last and works great I bet! I just have a little Harbor Fright model for making sharp bends.

Turbo remember the big wide board you learned to windsurf on compared to to the little narrow board you now probably use.

Think in terms of pivot points and you will probably remember some HS physics as the light comes on.
I can tell you that my new wide and taller gear is capable of doing an emergency ground loop at 35 mph full right brake to keep from going into the creek after what would have been a 15' drop.  Both wheels stayed on the ground and the plane stopped facing the opposite direction with zero damage.  The plane pivoted around the right tire which I had locked the brakes on.  The gear uses the Roberts Rage system.  I can tell you I am sold on my wide gear setup.

Flaperon repair jig, jury strut fairing
I built a simple jig to bend the 1/4" radius for the aluminum for a Flaperon repair on a friends Kitfox 4. I made it for dual purpose so I can use it to bend aluminum for the jury strut fairing and the HS strut fairing.  I am using the piece of 1/4" angle for the knife edge but 2 X 1/4" strap would work as well.  C-clamps are used on the ends of the angle to make the bend.  It's a poor boy knife edge brake. The second photo shows a piece of aluminum bent for the jury strut fairing.  The whole thing was made from scraps around the hangar in about an hour.  I will post some pictures of the finished products if anyone is interested.
Also does anyone have a drawing of the KF Flaperon ribs that they will post, if not I will draw one up and post that also.
