  2. There is a never used 912 ULS 100 HP on barnstormers for $14000 right now.  I emailed for details and pictures but have not heard back yet.  JImChuk

that'd be a good buy for someone.

  3. Wypaul, is your Zipper kit the 1484 high torque kit? I might be interested

  4. Or I could just go and fly the 80hp I have, it performs just awsome the way it is;)

Thanks for the replays everyone, I will keep studying it though, I might come up with something that works.

Does anyone have any experience with IVO's IFA props? Just curious if that would allow bigger tires and keep my airspeed??

    Thanks guys

  5. Thanks Larry, that's not what I wanted to hear but that's was I wanted know:)

  6. I guess the extra horsepower would allow me to have bigger tires and not sacrifice my airspeed?

  7. I have the chance to increase my horsepower from 80hp to 100hp with 100hp pistons. What are the pros and cons to this, will the extra hp beat up the gear box and crank? I am running the older 912, early 90's I believe.

  8. Here's a pic before I installed the new tailwheel.

I would figure there's 500hrs on that spring, probably original if I had to guess.

I did do a tail first full stall landing but it's the next landing that it broke on,  that was a 3 point.

It looks like it's been cracked a while, just never noticed it cause its pinched on the top.

My landings are not bad at all and I land on decent grass runways, nothin off airport yet, still practicing

  9. I was having fun till my T/W spring broke, I hope the heim joints don't break again, I couldn't tell if it came down on the rudder or not but is was very very close:huh:

This kinda thing must happen somewhat often, but since the spring is broke is there a better replacement option, such as aluminum or something?

BTW aviation is such a great community, the airport my mishap happened at, the manager let me but the airplane in an empty hangar till I can get it fixed:BC:

  10. The maule TW that I have weighs 6 lb and my battery is behind the firewall so I think another 2 lb in the tail would help me out quite a bit, I do have a 912

  11.   stay away from the tapes.

What if the burble is on the tape?

  12. Yes, I've decided it was hard enough to take off I'll do them all so I won't have to take it off again if the other 2 break

  13. There was a couple Mud Dobber nest in the rudder that I knocked out, is there any way to tighten the fabric back up?20200110_144258.thumb.jpg.b3dde661a52d0e20200110_144328.thumb.jpg.94f1ca647b82df20200110_144324.thumb.jpg.0226f430d19ed4

  14. If you are going to lube, be careful that is it s greaseless lubricant so you don't attract more dirt and grime.  I would say reach in there with a small wire brush and knock the dirt out followed by a shot of compressed air or a shop vac to clean them out.  a hiem joint should not lock up and not rotate.  That looks much more like a shock load did it in and not just normal use.  Like a tail wheel coming up and smacking the bottom of the rudder or something of that nature.

thanks, that's what I'll do then

there's no tellin what happened before I got it

  15. Did you land hard and smack the tail?  Were there any significant winds in your area that could have been banging the rudder back and forth?

I've had a few bouncy landings but nothing hard enough to do something like that. Since I've had the airplane it's never spent a night outside and I only fly when the winds are less than 10kts

  16. Man i hate to say it but when was last time they where cleaned and lubed. Could have had some rust/dirt ect in a few of the heim joints and when pivoted it snapped them off, course would take multipule times bending left and right over a period of time.

my thoughts exactly!!! I'm pretty sure they weren't lubed on the last annual I think I'm going to go ahead and lube all of the other hinges.

can I use water/soap to clean out the inside?

  17. I got the rudder off and there's 4 hinges not 5

  18. Yup those are what I have. The only difference is i have 5 hinges instead of 3. I'll be going to the airport today to take the rudder off so I'll post up what I find
