While at Oshkosh I ran across a new plane called the Mule which resembles the Merlin E-Z. This Mule is a updated Merlin the owner worked at Merlin for a bit and actually help build mine. gairplanes.com

Blue grass is good, rye grass not so as it is a bunch grass that grows in clumps. I don’t think you will ever have a smooth runway with rye grass in the mix.

Thanks Av8r I take it grove are superior to matco brakes and wheels by reflecting on what they cost? This conversion isn’t going to be cheap the Canadian peso doesn’t buy much these days.

I have a grove gear coming for my Merlin gt and need brakes and wheels for it. Empty weight is 720 lbs gross is 1400 lbs and I will be running 8:50 x6 tires for now and maybe 26 inch airstreaks in the future. What would you guys recommend for brakes and wheels?
thanks in advance

In the above 3 photos with gear that’s painted red yellow and black it looks like the brackets for the grove gear are homemade. What material is used cold rolled steel? What thickness would be needed? If I go grove I need to build these brackets.

I priced the Grove gear for my Avid MK IV, and it was over $3000 when you toss in the required pillow blocks and such. I tried to talk them down, and got nowhere. The Lowell Fitt (HighWing LLC) gear I bought was about $1500 total, and it is terrific.
I would consider his gear. How do I get a hold of him to see if he is interested in building a set?

No welding required. How easy?? How thick is your wallet???JImChuk
I give Grove a call....they make the gear but building a mount would be up to me as they say they don’t make the mounts for their gear. Still searching.

Wow, that is a great setup. Hope I get mine together soon. I have got to do something about that landing gear. Its to small.
Thanks
Iv2ply have you any updates on your Merlin project. I have one and need landing gear for it also. I could use some good advise on what direction to go with it. I see some neat looking custom built gear for avids and kitfox aircraft on here but can’t find any contact information on them to see if they could build one for my Merlin.

If your gonna spend the money kitfox wants for the spring gear that should have a ton of custom work done to be considered bush worthy, Maybe you should be looking at grove spring gear, there is a tone of them flying off airport with great success. Something to think about.
how easy is it to go from bungee to grove gear. Is there welding required?

I need new fabric on the wings off my Merlin and not sure if I want to tackle it. Who in western Canada or Montana does this?

I am trying to figure what length of a schmitar luga prop for my 912UL 80hp powered Merlin E-Z. I have a 2 blade 74 inch Ivoprop on it now.
Looking at a 2 blade or 3 blade schmitar. What length on a 80hp 912?
