I'll try that Chris thank you! I hate the idea of dead weight though, but the battery i'm using now is only 1 lb. Maybe i can use a tungsten tailwheel bolt.

Well shit, I guess I need to get the fuel figured out. And I’ll get the extended plugs as well to help

Chris, the cg is slightly forward if limits empty, but it’ll likely never fly without anyone in it... with a driver, it puts it in at about 12 with no fuel, within limits with 440lb people up front and full fuel and empty

Can someone post a picture of the enriching system and how to get it hooked up? Right now I’m using starting fluid to get it started for the first time

the airplane started out with a vw 2276 with an empty weight of 575. Now it’s got a Rotax 582, and it’s at 458. If I reeeeaaalllly wanted to I bet I could get it closer to 400. Thanks for the help! I’ll report here on the upcoming flights. Empty cg is 11.07

Nick, how do you know if it’s 950 vs 1050 gross on a c? Mine is a c but marketed at iv....gross weight listed as 1050, but...how do I know?

The other idea I had to keep it compact was a small cpu radiator with fans since they are cheap and I cant find what fred has in the states

How does it attached to the radiator, how big, does it affect cooling much? The winter months are here, so debating if I should just wear a coat or add a heater

If you get an early mk4 Avid, make sure it really is. Mine was marketed as mk4, and the paperwork reflected, however mine is likely a B or C

I’ll add I’ve been eye balling the yammy motor a bunch too...but super curious on firewall forward weight. I’m told the 582 fwf is like 156Lbs. No one has a fwf weight for the yammy. I’ve also seen some good reviews out of some on here about the Rotax 670. Simoni has a US distributer, which also can be an option. Hirth has an interesting 4cly 2 stroke that can be fuel injected, however I’m told the exhaust is a booger for a kitfox/avid. I just don’t know if our airframes could ever be maximized in terms of weight potential with a 4 stroke.

I can only speak for Jim chuk...everything I’ve bought from him was exactly as promised....not sure how he always has what I need :-p. I will also say every time I’ve had a question, this forum has been able to help. Hope things get better for you my friend.

Yea crappy English and I never re read what I wrote. Sometimes adel clamps can be a hassle if there is a big stack-up or precarious location. So you’d put the clamp on where it’s suppose to go, and use an awe to simulate a an3 bolt. Then you use vice grips to squeeze the clamp together, again the awe will keep the 3/16” holes of both sides of the clamp aligned. Take the awe out, and use waxed string to tie the clamp closed, then when you remove vice grips the clamp stays aligned and closed allowing you to easy navigate a bolt through it.

  22. Matthewtanner added a post in a topic 582 no spark

So...I fabbed up a pulley instead of just a pipe to change pull starter direction, new plugs gapped to 16, and she started! Obvi also ran the magneto kill switch properly...for some reason it bugs me that I just moved the switch wiring from power to ground, but I left the wires red... first world problems. Anyways, this validated my ignition and the new throttle linkage I fabbed, now time for final disassembly and assembly. Thanks so much everyone!

    582 no spark
So i may have burned up my dual ducati ignitions. the trigger wire seems to still be working, i run a tone through it and turn the propeller and it seems to be triggering. However i had a 12vdc plumbed into the black and yellow, thinking thats how the kill switches work, however it seems as though the black and yellow wire is meant to be open, and when you kill it you ground the mag out. well now with the black and yellow wire open, i have a plug grounded out agains the case and am getting no spark. Looking forward to hear back on this.
