  1. quote="occom"]Almost right on time, wasn't it this time last year  that somebody threw a hissy fit with his "open letter" that ended in creation of  a separate list?

I wonder if he was eating lead paint chips as a kid?

I sooooooo wanted to post over there but figured what I was gonna say would get me banned permanently..

So, whos plane is in his signature?  his or Noels?  Or is it one hell of a coincidence that they both have the same floats, cowl, and single float landing/takeoff technique at the same lake, same course same altitude?

I just dont think some people "get" it.  The ENTIRE purpose of a forum is to exchange information.  If they say that you can start a thread, but only reply to it in PM's or offline emails then what f$%^kn good is the forum.  Hell I can save myself the trouble and just email 3 of my buddies and tell them I just got back from a killer flight... I find that most people want to share good experiences.  I really do enjoy reading about others flights and the exhilaration they get from flying.  But when I post up a story, get 50 people to look at it, and not one online reply it makes you feel like your story, idea etc. is not worth a shit (and some of them aren't  ).

Sooo for those of you who like to dress up with high water pants and use a pocket protector why dont you try a little :beerchug: lighten up and let others enjoy this hobby life blood we spend most waking moment thinking about.

    :soapbox:

:beerchug: < this makes it all good

Tell the truth...damn you cant be married....

  3. Looks just like the crap I got our of my tanks wheni bought my plane . It had been sitting in Dallas Ft Worth for 3 years not flying full of gas or should i say full of gummy used to be gas . When we steamed the tanks out there was still a residue that even MEK would not take off very easy. The tank outlet finger strainers were ruined and not cleanable . I say it is just varnish from crappy gasoline .

Just my opinion and we all know what opinions are like .

    :2cent:

Oh oh oh I know i know, pick me... they are like assholes, and on this forum I am one

  4. back to the topic..Last time I flew it was when I putthe new 72" prop on his plane.. I went from a 68" high pitch blade IFA to 72" low pitch.  I had checked the jetting as the temps had dropped but was still getting higher than normal EGT's.  I just pulled the power back, dialed in more pitch to get the EGTs down and flew around...Now it hits home.. I attributed the higher EGTs to having less pitch and the engine not workin hard....in reality, I was running out of fuel and trying to burn it down...hmmm. maybe we should learn to listen to the plane when it is trying to tell us something..

  5. Well I would say he is directing that at several guys...Dave refuses to put the sig up to... you know what really kills me is his line of thinking.  First he says something along the lines of ..We want you to put your name and location etc. as a signature to help make the list a more friendly, personable place... then you get  :nutkick: for trying to talk and be friendly...  MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MIND...

    :beerchug:

  6. John,

as many attempts as you have made to get over there and failed, I am thinking you are not ment to go hunting

get her fixed up though cause I will be home in a few days ... If you doint have her tuned uo and ready to fly then your  :banned2:

    :beerchug:

  7. Holy crap, guys are having conversations, no bashing or getting out of hand yet someone feels the need to post that up????  Holy shit what is wrong with a little friendly conversation...oh well, we can talk away here ifn ya want to.

    :beerchug:

  8. welcome to the dark side...I am not sure I would bet on a stall... in looking at the pics, you can see the terain is pretty rough, and the area is tight.  I would lay more on him coming in hot, the small tire digging in and all hell breaking loose after that..

The real question is, was there really an oil problem?  So he was or did loose pressure.. did the temps come up? were there any signs other than low oil pressure to tell him that he needed to make an off airport landing.. in a field, with a road running next to it?  I would have taken my chances with a fence on the side of the road before I did the rough field..

Had to edit this one...  I can say that right now, looking at it from a nice warm office that this is what I would have done, however, having been in an emergency situation where I had but 2 seconds to think and no time to react and with no options on how hard I was gonna hit, I can say that I am 100% sure that he did what he thought he had to do at that time.... now looking back and reflecting I am sure he has asked himself 10,000 times if he did what he should have..

There is a reason they say hind sight is 20/20.

  9. :D  Get it??  Makes my head spin...?  ;D ?-----?   Never mind.

BTW.. Leni, if there was a icon for asskissing i would have used it instead of the  :siterocks: one.

    steve

    Bhwaaaaaa on the bold...

Hmm.. gonna have to come up with a good brown noser emo.

  10. holy crap... damn goodthing you did not fly through a temperature inversion... that could have been really bad!

on a serious note, that did not take long to rub the fire sleeve.. last cub I put an engine in I was ANAL about tying everything back / down with sleeves so nothing could chafe.  Everyone who has seen it said they had never seen an alaskan cub with such a clean install.. I bet it looks like shit now as it has been 2 years of 135 work so I know lots of field mechanics have had their grubby little dick skinners on it....

  11. the outcome is never good....

My ex-wife started taking flying lessons about the time our divorce started and she got her license shortly before our divorce was final, later that same year.

Yesterday afternoon, she narrowly escaped injury in the aircraft she was piloting when she was forced to make an emergency landing in Southern Tennessee because of bad weather. Thank God our kids were with me at the Beach House this weekend.

The NTSB issued a preliminary report, citing pilot error: Judy was flying a single engine aircraft in IFR (instrument flight rating) conditions while only having obtained a VFR (visual flight rating) rating.

The absence of a post-crash fire was likely due to insufficient fuel on board. No one on the ground was injured.

Photographs below were taken at the scene show the extent of damage to her aircraft.

    She was very lucky.

  12. damn... you gonna post up enough shit for me to smart off about that I am gonna get banned again..

but this is for the poster who does not like slow fun flying planes...

  13. I would guess you need the "QuickTime" media player installed. done that?

DAmn I knew I was missing something lol.... nope.. I have it installed but maybe I need to update the codecs

  14. I have not run across any jetting charts for 912's.

I do read about others "playing" with jet and needle settings though but my motto has always been " if it's not broke, don't try to fix it".

Perhaps the colder free air temps now require carb adjustments. In the German Argus inverted V-8 there are three jets per carb. Idle, intermediate, and full throttle.... and we would change them according to season to avoid fouling spark plugs. Warmer air would give a richer mixture for a given jet.

Perhaps I am dealing with a simular situation..... colder air, for a given setting, will lean the mixture out.

That is what happens with our 2 strokes....have to run summer jets and winter jets..

  15. I am 4 stroke rotax ignorant...but will ask a question anyway.. Does Rotax have a jetting chart like they do for 2 strokes?  With colder temps we have to go up in jet sizes for 2 strokes or we get real high EGT's...kinda like john has now lol..

If'n ya had infight adjustable, you could have just bumped up a little pitch..infact, if you are planning on sticking with 100ll you should repitch to keep RPM and EGTs under control.

Did you notice an increase in RPMs?
