  3. akflyer added a post in a topic Today's Dumbass Stunt

Sumbiatch I am glad I am not the only one that does dumb shit! The first time I ever saw what a loose or missing fuel cap would do, I was flying wing man for a buddy that was pulling some hunters off the side of a mountain. He wanted to keep it light so we were only putting 5 gallons in his J5. The second take off, he came off the ground, and I saw a streamer coming out of the top of his wing. I called him and he did a 180 and sat right back down on the runway. He could not have been in the air for more than a minute or two. I landed and we walked the runway and found his cap. In those couple minutes, he had lost all but about a cup full of gas!

Hell yeah! looks like your getting close to getting her back in the air! From the looks of it, the new tanks fit pretty well! If there are any bastad parts to the install, post it up so other needing the tanks can save a step of two!

Sounds like my kind of flying! too bad you are 4000 miles away

I have the 6" matco pneumatic. I am not real impressed with it. I am looking for an 8" bushwheel right now. If I have to have weight in the tail, I want it useful! I keep the stick shoved way forward to keep as much weight off the tail wheel and spring as possible. You can stand on the brakes, keep the power in and use full down and it will take alot of pressure off the tailwheel.

I was watching that thread over there and was considering it... but then decided I want to stay as light as possible. This leaves me with no option but a 2 stroke for what I want to be able to do. Hope I did not make the wrong choice as this experimenting crap gets expensive

  8. akflyer added a post in a topic Need walked through removing and reinstalling an E-box

Never took apart a E box, but have done B and C boxes. Why are you pulling the fly wheel? does the new engine not come with one? The pinion gear needs a little heat from a heat gun to soften the locktite / sleeve retainer. I just use an allen wrench for the locking tool. Make sure it is not a "ball" end wrench as it will pop the ball off. I will look and see if any of my books show the E box and the removal.

I rode in one out to Johnston Atol... BIG SUMBITCH! My house in hawaii overlooked Hickam AFB. My living room window was even with the approach path going into H AFB. I could sit there for hours watching the different planes coming and going.. but I needed a bigger picture window for the C5!

Your Y pipe that you have now will work perfect on the engine. You can use the carbs you have now etc.. You sure you want to remove the oil pump? When idling on the pump, you are about 100:1. As you increase throttle settings, it will increase oil injection up to 50:1. If you run straight 50:1 premix, you will be running a bit richer than if you are oil injected. You also have to play with the jets if you premix oil as the viscosity of the gas just changed and you need a fatter jet to pass the same amount of gasoline.. atleast, this is the way it has been on EVERY snowmobile I disconnected the injection pump on (the late 80s yamaha's were notorious for the pump going out) so I would pull it and run premix.. could not figure out why I kept burning down a cylinder as I had not changed the jets... duuhh.. it was cause I had to change the jets after going premix.

Never pulled a E box, but the B and C boxes are no problems. if you need a gear puller let me know and I can ship one to you Saturday. I believe they are the same for the C and the E gear boxes.

If I can think of anything else I will post it up

    Hey Randy,

Dont be afraid to post up some pics of your build! We are not just about KF or Avids here, if it floats, flys, drives or ... well and one of the other f's . . we are into it and are happy to have it here!

Mind posting a pic on the motor mount? I am going to be needing a mount for my science project here pretty soon, and it may be easier to modify yours than to build mine from scratch.

    Thanks

just swap the gear boxes. If you end up with 2 E gear boxes, I may be interested in one of them so I can have Electric start on the new 800 engine...

I would not think the 3.47 would be real good for the avid. Prop would be turning slower, maybe too slow. The higher gear ratios are normally used on PPC, but you never know, you may be able to hog in more pitch and it will pull like a mofo. You should be able to contact one of the outfits like cps or even warp and tell them what you are thinking and see what it will do for you in terms of thrust and speed.

RV seals are easy to change.. you still have good compression? tear it down, new seals, check the crank and run the crap outa it..

it has been pretty slow on the board. Not much new content has been posted. I switched over to firefox and am not having issues with the login or the new content. It may have something to do with you internet security settings in your browser.. I dont know, just tossing out something to think about.

Don't have to be a story that gets you close to death to help someone learn! No flaps in heavy or gusty winds is the best thing you can do! Great job on getting the sister back in one piece and not letting her see how tense you were.. that would have really freaked her out!

    Banged Up Kitfox
Buddy had a few issues yesterday on take off... Yep the same guy that I mentioned in the forum on crashes and dumb stunts... We got it home today after a little "presidential solutions" better known as southern engineering

Little video from today as I was ferrying supplies, tools, heaters, etc back and forth to my brothers short wing piper death trap at a longer strip about a mile away from the KF we had to work on...

oh I have alot more war stories about me and my buddy Sid flying... most of them I doubt you guys would believe as there were some real bone head maneuvers we pulled. I guess it is true that god watches out for fools and idiots, as the only way you can explain Sid and I living through some of our "stunts" is divine intervention

Going to stick with the "C" box. The engine should not much, if any length.. a couple inches maybe. By eliminating the Electric Start, I can slide the engine closer to the firewall. With the EFI I have never had to pull more than twice even at -50 to start the 800 engine. I may end up adding the ES, but for now, I am planning on staying with recoil start. The way the engine was designed to "laydown" in the snowmachine chassis, the intake and exhaust is on the same side, with the exhaust crossing over the top of the engine. This is going to present some issues, but I am sure I can get it routed around under a larger cowl. Thats why they call it experimental

Still kicking that around and how to implement it... (donations) I am sure I will do a contributing member group for those who donate, and that will give you some extra perks.. Trying to get the pay pal crap set up now..

As far as pics go, you should be good to go now! try to post some pics up and see how she goes.
