as far as I am concerned, even a 6 pack of hot blonds doing bad bad things to me is not as therapeutic as a nice flight in the mountains. Being that close to the awesome ruggedness will damn near turn me into a religious man... and not cause I think I am gonna die, just makes one wonder about the insight needed to create something so spectacular.

I just used the view new content button to get to this post... try and refresh the page in case it is caching cookies.

Mine are 60" X 12" and I would not want them any smaller. I thinks randy made his 72" X 12" and he likes the way they work in the deep snow.

why not just use the KF gear legs they should bolt right on and you wont have to fab or weld anything.

it is easy enough to get a set of Douglas welded ATV wheels in 8". They will probably have to be drilled to meet the bolt pattern. Then you have to rustle up a set of hubs from some old kitfox... hmm... I may have an extra set.. then a set of rotors.. hmm.. may have a set of those too. Then you weld lugs inside the wheel for the rotors to bolt to. That is not a big issue as akflyerbob had a set made. Then you get the matco calipers and masters, a little plumbing and you be ready to stop your plane much better than it will now! I would look into the re-inforced toe brakes that a guy on the yahoo group had been selling. I think Jackak has a set of the pedals that I looked at. Mine and wagonmasters both flex a bit too much when you really try to stand on them.

Holy fucker ballz... We started out having a pretty good day Friday.. nice flat light, 9 open water crossings to get back to a very remote riding area. We knew we had to stay off the mountains due to very flat light so we decided to play in the trees.. Was all good till 3 guys in the group took a drop off a rock wall that they did not see coming. First guy went off and did not know he was in the air till the sled ripped out of his hands. #2 saw what happened at the last second and blipped the throttle and jumped clear. At this point both of those sleds are upside down at the bottom.. Then #3 come off, his sled spearing a buddies sled, then he landed on top of the sleds. His left arm was twisted around in a bad way behind his back and head so we knew that arm was fully fucked. he was also complaining of back pain. We got a fire going and half the crew rode out to get help after we set off the SPOT Messenger. While this is going on, the weather was rapidly deteriorating and turned into a full scale blizzard. winds picked up to about 35-40 and it was snowing so hard we could not see past the ski's. The ride out was fun, but we made the 12 mile ride in about an hour or so. We had to take the truck about 13 miles to get cell phone signal and started the rescuers our way. We got back to parking lot and waited for troopers and EMT'S to get there. Life flight declined to fly due to weather (they lost a heli and all on board last year trying to fly in shit like this so they wont fly if the weather is bad here) The trooper heli said fuck you we are not flying. We got the military to say they would bring in the black hawk if we could get a SAT phone on the scene to guide them in and give weather reports at the scene. We loaded up and headed back to the mountains with Cell phone and more gear. At this point, another guy in our group had already taken off with a team of 4 state troopers and EMT. It was about 45 minutes later we were told we needed to ride the SAT phone in.

We were trying to follow tracks to get in there, but the wind and snow had blown them out and we were riding by braille in an area that on a good day, one of the ridges gives you about 10" from your outside ski to a 400' sheer drop into a jagged rocky river bottom.... ( I looked where we were at daylight the next day and we were within 20' of taking that trip had we not turned around when we did) We got to within a couple miles of them, but had to turn back as it was just not worth us dieing trying to get into these guys. There were 12 guys that spent a long hard night on the mountain in a blizzard trying. We got back to the parking lot and hauled ass to get A arms and shocks and a few other goodies to get the sleds ride-able then went back. With day break, we were able to get back into the them and got a Coast Guard chopper in to get the injured guy out. All in all, it was a fast and furious 30 hrs but all riders and sleds are now home. Just got work that the injured guy has a broken arm, dislocated shoulder, and multiple broken vertebra. He is in good spirits and ready to get healed up and back to riding!

I think I am ready to go back to work and take a break for a week... those blizzard rides in the mountains took a little out of me.

    http://www.visionxoffroad.com/led/s1100/

This is the light I use. Works great and is damn bright when looking at it from the air and ground.. when you cant see anything else on my plane, you can see that landing light a long ways away! The amp draw is what convinced me to spend the $ on it. I also got one for a helmet light on my sled. Best damn helmet light I have used! Really lights up the trees for good night riding

That is the best money you could spend on the plane right now. I have been doing test flights on a buddies Model "A" with the gocart wanna be brakes.. best things you can do with those it take them off and toss them in the river.. they are a bit of a false sense of security... if it starts to get away from you, there is no way in hell your bringing it back with those brakes! Whoever decided to put mechanical brakes on an airplane needs to be junk punched

Being cautious and dragging the strip to make sure it is good and doing a few approaches is the smartest thing you can do! I flew in and out of an 800' strip that was plowed down to ice today on the floats.. that was a bit of a pucker factor as there were nice bid snow berms on each end. I touched down within 5' of the approach end at 40 mph and slid up to the far bank and tagged it at about 10 mph. I sure do love those airbags in the floats! Getting out I used less than 1/2 the strip.

definitely need a report on that tail wheel. I am thinking the 8" needs to go on my plane this summer if I go back to wheels! Off airport is where it is at with these birds! once you really get comfortable with it, you will be amazed at the places you can take these little planes! One thing I would keep a close eye on is the weld on the gear where the bungies wrap around. The cross leg that ties into the gear is where I have seen all the failures. Two on my plane and one on my brothers. The pic shows the failure on my brothers gear that was the exact same on mine twice (that is how I ended up with the plane after it went on its back!)

Few pics from yesterday... Once again I left the good digital in the truck so these are pics from the video cam. I need to get a good camera and just leave it in the plane! The pic of my plane on the ground was on a ridge above lost lake. Little shorter than I thought, but the good news is you can fall off the end of a short strip in the mountains and gain flying speed on the way down

Hey Randy, I did not make it up to the lodge. Lance called and he had to go back to willow for a week Made a couple trips to lost lake and today headed up to Nelli juan. I was going to drop over into Kings bay in PWS and see if I could find a trail to take snowmachines in there, but the fog cut us off and made us turn around.. Was a nice day to fly thought the mountains though!

  23. akflyer added a post in a topic About at wits end rigging flaperons

without trim tabs on the flaperons all you are doing is moving the stick position. The flaperons will fly level side to side, but will be neutral, reflexed or extended... The only way to correct roll is with trim tab on flap, or as designers inteneded, adjust the one strut end to add washin or washout.

We used snowboard tape. Clear. sticky and heavy duty! Just as Larry said, go full down elevator and put it on the top. It will seal the gap and lasts a couple years atleast. Made a HUGE difference on floats. I am heading out to the plane today so I will take a pic of the gap seals.
