  1. That's funny my wife and I know a couple like that . They blow money on baseball games and drinking always pissing and moaning about money issues. The wife always asks how we do it with me working and having a airplane and various other toys , vacations etc. Her answer always has been the I work my ass off constantly , don't drink or go to baseball games everyday or week . My generation is a bunch of idiots and I'll be the first to say it .

  2. That's funny !!! My Dad was a Air force t-38 mechanic and my older brother was in the Army started off as field artillery then ended as a heavy truck mechanic . My brother always teases my dad about him being in the air force . I myself was never in the military, for one I turned professional riding bikes around the age of 16 and by the time I was 18 I already had a double left knee surgery and my left shoulder had surgery. Long story short my hat's off to all you guys who served no matter what branch . I know I wouldn't be able to live the life I have without you guys .

  3. The oil in the premix might be better protection for your tanks from the FG-eating chemicals in the gas too? EDMO

Couldn't hurt in helping protect everything. I just don't trust oil injection at all . I'm sure there's plenty of people that have thousands oh hours with oil injection with no problem. Personally I'd rather carry a couple things of oil with me when I go far enough and need fuel .

  4. Does your original nose fork have the doubler installed? That was something everyone was supposed to do that strengthened it considerably.

Is the doubler on the lower part of the nose gear ? Mine on my mkIV is the normal set up with the u for the wheel to sit in and a couple of gussets that go on the u where it meets the down tube

  5. Not sure the difference between the model c and my mkIV but I have the speedwing and love it. With passenger and full fuel I'm off the ground pretty fast. I run a 582 3:1 ratio and 3 blade prop

  6. Aluminum gets washed and treated with a etching chemical to help the powder stick. Same reason you use a etch primer before you wet paint it . Steel you can pretty much sandblast , clean and put it on the line . I worked for a company that to my surprise would powdercoat over wet paint without stripping it.  This I wouldn't recommend at all .

  7. One person reported a 10 mph increase in cruise when he added the VGs to the underside of his leading edge.

    EDMO

    Any idea the spacing ?

Believe me I understand and appreciate the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude. However to me, an experimental airplane is meant to be experimented with! I love toying with getting better performance on both ends of the spectrum, both high and low speeds. If that means a few small VG's, possibly some fairings to clean things up and then maybe lightening up the aircraft, then I don't see a problem with it. I'm not "fixing", simply experimenting, as I believe the FAA intended when the experimental class was created. Remember that the reason this class exists is for the learning and knowledge that it leads to, and that is very loosely paraphrased from the FAA's statement.

With my current plane I gained almost 10 knots cruise speed doing various modifications to it, I also was able to decrease the stall speed by 5-6MPH. It represented a net gain of almost 20% between cruise and stall than it sat before. It wasn't broken, but all these modifications helped me better understand the aerodynamics and such, as well as creating a safer plane because now it will land at 60 MPH instead of 65, it uses less runway and since there is no restarting the engine in flight, that equals safety in my mind by giving much better survivability if such an engine loss should occur.

By nature I am a builder, tinkerer and love to learn. As such I enjoy owning an experimental because of the ability to learn through change, the fact that I can fly it just adds to my happiness. Hopefully you all understand that.

    Just my .02 worth.

what modifications did you do to increase the cruise ?

  8. I couldn't find anyone near me either . I read everything I could made notes of speeds and went for it . I was already used to lsa planes but it actually wasn't bad at all . First flight was just in the pattern . Did one and done .....

  9. :news:Haha , I'm wondering if we're going to find out if they are available. I'm still thinking about welding up a aluminum pod/tank or something for the extra distance . They say my tank is 18 gallons but I barely get 16 in .

  10. That's what I did with my loehle 5151.  They required hanging lead off the firewall and what not . Instead of that we filled the motor mount tubes with shot and it worked great .

  11. Ehh if he's got the line running and doing the same color not a big deal . The company I worked for only did there stuff and is missing out on other companies and people wanting stuff done. Oh well hopefully I can get another shop going between the powder coating, paint and welding it should be a one stop shop . Right now I pick up some stuff here and there but still do the daily 9-5 ugggh.

  12. I had to make  tool for my buddy to do these damn things . Even with it he had a hell of a time . I'll stick to wrapping mine every couple years .

  13. Powder coat actually cures @ 350 for 20-30 minutes. At 400 you might get it cured around 10 minutes. If everyone was closer I could hook you up . I have a full setup with a 6'x3'x3' oven

  14. If I was closer I would weld it it up for you no problem . I'm sure there's a local weld shop in your area that can knock it out quick .

Ed if you don't have a muffler on your plane now putting glass packs should give you a little boost in performance. Back pressure helps a little and you might have to readjust your carb .
