Rans offers one of its planes with standard fabric, and an optional envelope fabric that does not need to be painted - this may be that material - but the cost is too high for me to use, if $9K to cover a Cub is correct.

There was a plane we judged on the ultralight field at Airventure last year with this stuff on it.

Looked pretty nice, like a good Aerothane paint job. Pretty spendy though and very little track record in the field of full sized planes.

It is about the same stuff that we have been using to cover model airplanes for years.  Iron on and go, no painting no fuel proofing needed.  I dont have any experience with the heavier cloth stuff that they are using for the full scale planes though..

I am working on the Kitty as time allows. The farm has a 4 acre lawn. I have 5 goats (not GTOs). I belong to a Corvette club and DO attend the functions. Sunday is for Church, and visiting my parents.

I am currently STILL working on the left sponson, trying to get it right. Currently, this means working on the wheel well. My advice to anyone who gets an un built  Catalina kit, DO NOT change it to the latest configuration. Keep the sponsons stock. Here are the 4 newest photos.

Hi Ed if you type in the ORATEX600 in your search baror google there is a ton of information that pops up, some guy cover his super cub in and figured the cost to be around $9000 . Not sure what the noemal cost of covering a complete plane is but sounds like alot less labour and was saying 20- 30% lighter. Sounds interesting

Just got my SA rag for this month, and on page 15 at the bottom there is a half-assed note about a new fab from Germany - ORATEX600 - Also called "BetterAircraftFabric". Supposedly, no paint needed and non-toxic, adverse-weather resistant, etc.

Unfortunately, no contact info is given.

Maybe some puter-smart member could do some research on the new "miracle"?

Now I see in the title that I cant spel FABRIC.......

i have a corporate account with amsoil and I'm thinking of buying a 30 gallon keg or a 55 gallon drum but thats a big investment.

if i could really run the amsoil at 100:1 with no issues then this sounds like the way to go.  less ring sticking, fouling, carbon and consumption.  Sounds like a win, win, win to me.

opinions on how to run a 2-stroke varies so greatly.

I just met a few gents running twin engine air cams here.  They use 2 Rotax 582 pushers.  some of them had 1200+ hours on these engines.  They told me to use Phillips 66 2-Stroke oil at 50:1 and 1 ounch of Marvel Mystery Oil per 5 Gallons of fuel.  Apparently they have been very successful using this, the leader of the group, David, is a Rotax rebuilder and he also recommended this.

Talk to Rotax and they will tell you NO ADDITIVES!

Ask on the forums and they say 70-100:1 and you should be fine.

It's hilarious.  Idk what to believe, I'm not a 2-Stroke guys and I'm not sure what to do.  I did drain my wing and header tanks and remixed the fuel 50:1 with Penzoil AirCooled Oil.  I hope to burn this off in the next 2 days and put some fresh gas in it.  I hate to let it sit with fuel premixd in the tanks

I hope today was a great one for ya EB  Wish I was going to be home when you make the trip up this summer but as the schedule looks right now I will be at work.

    :bday:  :bday:

If you know how to run a boat and where to fish I have a 24' hydrasport sitting in the yard that you could drag down to Homer and go slay some halibut if you want to.

good luck.... I had 1260s before and they kind of suck.  They took a set of 1220s and put longer tails on them for rear engine airplanes.  This makes it damn near impossible to rotate without dragging the heels unless you put alot more AOA on the wing in relation to the floats, but then you have to fly with a half stick of up elevator to keep them from dragging you out of the sky.  That is why I went to 1450s... Unfortunately, I think the patterns for the 1450s must be off because the few sets of them I have seen have a bad twist sewn into them.  I will dig up the pictures of mine to show how bad the twist is.. I drug my feet a little too long on getting them sent back and now the new owners will not warranty the repairs ( I really cant blame them I guess).  If my Edo's work out the way I think they will, I will have my skystar rigging for sale and they were bolted to the 1260s so it would pretty much be a plug and play for you.

If you want to make your own, I can get you the measurements in a few weeks when I get back home and you can buy the structural streamlined tubing from Carlson Aircraft pretty cheap.

I hear ya Chris! Yesterday I was going to try and save a few grand and pick up a set of floats that needed new bottoms put on them.. Till I started adding up costs n hours needed to make them fly able.. I'm more into flying these days so I dropped the extra coin and bought bolt ons..

I posted this on the Avid Yahoo forum, but wanted to put it out to our Kitfox brethren too since we all basically represent the same family of aircraft.

For anyone near southern California looking for an excuse to fly your Avid or Kitfox,
here's info for the upcoming Flabob Low and Slow Fly In, with food, planes and
fun events. There is a (meager) website for registration and meal signups here:

    http://www.lowandslowflyin.com

Let's see how many Avids and Kitfoxes we can get out there on short notice. Maybe we can put
on a good turnout for the type. You can't get much lower or slower than the Avid or Kitfox!

Be sure to go to the link and register so that they know how many meals to plan for.

    Bruce :)

Yeah it would be a lot of fun if I had one flying plane but I don't. I bought this to fly while I work on my Magnum so I could have something to fly while I fix it. Now I have two projects. Not where I want to be, but this is not the site to whine on. I'm sure there are a ton of people with no airplane project that would LOVE to have one, so I can't complain too much. I just love to fly so much and my wings are currently clipped.
