the only advantage of mounting the engine upside down that I have seen is routing the exhaust and upside down the cowl can be 1/2" from the engine to top cowl

lol but hooking 220 leads one on yer big toe and one on yer ear isn't going to help lol
chances are when the current meets in the middle your voice will forever change lol

I was there in the mid 80's, I was th company scrounge and drove everywhere around Europe to trade our extras for what we needed, I got run over by a new seargeant in a HUMMER in Grafenwehr and that did in my career, I have had a bad back ever since. I don't trust New York drivers either. I spent most of my time as an acting jack Sgt so I could have more influence while trading and they didn't have to pay. Spent many a weekend at the Topper club in Frankfurt.

How much trouble is it to build a mount to turn the engine right side up in an Avid, I am not sure why it was originally turned upside down, but I am planning on a right side up installation, Is there anything I should be looking out for, when I bought this plane the first owner had mounted a firewall and had about 2 inch spacers between the mount and firewall, I had originally thought it was for Balance, are they needed or should I just bend up the firewall to fit the engine in the proper place.

doesn't the Happi conversions
they did make a conversion that used a tapered prop flange but I don't know if they are still in business i found some pictures of the conversion that I posted I am not sure about the box she used looks like a b box looks like she split the gear box in half and drilled 4 mounting holes to mount to the engine and then installed the pinion gear to the shaft with a bolt I am not familiar with these types of setups

Looks good.
Be careful. Take off the unlocking cam from the Maul tailwheel while you are getting used to her. (1st 100 hours.)

doesn't the Happi conversions use a tapered prop hub? I wonder if this could be adapted to fit if its the same size taper,..for a belt reduction

Ed, I got a picture a couple days ago of the almost completed adapter plate for the 800. As soon as Dave completes that and gets the fly wheel machined, I can start the engine mount and exhaust mods.

what engine are you talking about I might have ask this before.....I don't remember.... I have been looking at the Arctic cat engines.they have a Suzuki engine that they came out about 2010 I believe it is a cf 800 ho engine the later engines has 2 plugs per cylinder it is fuel injected with an ecu the engine looks real promising if I was to use this engine I would have to go the route that you are doing making an adapter plate and dealing with taper on the crankshaft but I believe that it would be worth it because the engine is still in production and you can get parts for it.There is a guy on the gyro site that is using a arctic cat 500 on her gyro and it seems pretty impressive the engine she is using has a smaller crankshaft I believe it is a 30 mm taper similar to the rotax sized crankshaft are you keeping notes on what you are doing to fit the gearbox up?
thanks Bob

if your going to do straight line racing 54/46 is ok if you make the back suspension soft,..if your going for road racing 51/49 is best,,at 50/50 she will push in corners because your front tires will get hotter quicker due to equal weight trying to push it straight,,and between braking and push ,,she wont turn good,..51/49 if you set the car for the corners meaning set up for power slides as you enter each corner ,,the front will still have good control and you will fly around corners

I put my battery support tubes in the next bay forward from the tail - that's where the Kitfox 1 had the car battery when we put the Soob on it.I thought I got my batt back far enough maybe a couple of feet behind mixer but might try to get it back even further.a four inch longer wing chord has gotta help in the w@b area I would think Ed
The extended LE should help, but using the Riblett mod, like the Kitfox 4 and later,to get rid of the undercamber should eliminate most of the nose-down forces of the wings too.

I heard about a man who threatened to swap his 40 for Two 20's -Trust me, it's much cheaper to just work with the one 40 then to try n trade her in on 2 20's
His wife quickly told him that he was NOT WIRED FOR 220!

Been there and done that - Cadillac Plastics furnish a very light bronze tint for windows - The two shades of dark bronze are too dark for windows - make good skylight tho - Had them in my Ercoupe - Love it in the summer heat - some of this is only in Plexiglas - some in Lexan - forget which, but think the very light is Lexan.
You can get colors on their site.

to be honest..she is a great girl..but,,if it ever does not work out,..she will not be replaced unless she has a wheel sticking out of her ass and a set of wings on her shoulders

Like the window Ed. I need to replace the plexi in my doors at some point pretty soon. I think it's the original stuff and it's starting to get cloudy.

but in my mind heat rises,..so an upside down engine isn't using the fins on the head to cool much heat,..its going into the block
