    It's strictly a road race car, mostly plan on running at VIR, CMP and Road Atlanta.  I thought I had the weight distribution figured out but I got it wrong, it's hard to determine on paper.

     

    The Miata is going to have to suffice, no budget for the "Exocet" chassis unfortunately.  I'm also going to be limited on tire size for the time being.  How about 225/50/15's being twisted by 400-450whp....  Should be interesting.

     

    A little progress is done on the Miata Roller.  Still a LONG ways to go though.

    The Maul Tailwheel:  On the tailwheel is a sheet-metal plate with two screws holding it in place.  If you remove this plate, the tailwheel will not go into full swivel mode.

     

    This will keep the wheel locked to the steering of the rudder.  This is the most common cause of ground-loops (IMO) with these planes combined with low tailwheel time pilots.  I have also seen a high time tailwheel pilot and CFI repeatedly ground loop an Avid because of a loose tailwheel.  Once you have mastered the plane, replacing the cam plate will allow for easier ground handling.

    Unusual paint job - interesting - How about some details - Is that Nevada, or is that the space needle in the background?

    912 80 hp  10 hrs tt,  carbs were nasty, im going through fuel and cooling system & replacing all.  decent panel, I am building a new one with a different layout tho.  no  time on it but has been sitting for a while.. pretty happy with it.  need to get the faa paper work figured out so I can have the 40 hrs  flown off ...  anyone wana buy a quicksilver ?   :)

    Wasn't that footwell extension already done in the pursang and airdale?  I'd hate to reinvent the wheel if Brett has the tooling to make the kit, the jigs and everything.  If only someone could reach him.

    You are correct Chris - but they also completely changed the type of landing gear - major change there - could be done very simply without changing the gear.

    95% complete copy fuselage - could be modified for higher gross weight, about 90% of parts to complete already built, No Wings, Kitfox 2 - 950 gw struts, fixtures to build wing ribs with sample rib, droop tips, one flaperon, tailfeathers, landing gear with 8 inch wheels, tires, matco brakes, MC4's, tailwheel, bump cowls, seat and Kitfox seatcovers, turtledeck, nose header tank, 532 with mount, radiator and exhausts, wing tank available, all original engine instruments and senders, controls, brake pedals, builders manual, etc, etc. PM me for questions.

    Also have Fat-Avid / Highlander / Magnum copy fuselage - no parts, but have Magnum build manual.
    Maybe I should compare this fuselage with the Kitfox  - maybe more like the Avid Magnum or Highlander?
    This fuselage measures about 17 feet on lower longeron, and about 48 inches wide at widest point - compared to Kitfox 2 at 14 feet and 36 inches wide.

    Hi Mark,

     

    I live in the Tri Cities Wa and have two non flying Avids currently. An Avid Magnum and a Fat Avid. I have 2 friends here in the Tri Cities with 912 MKIV's. You are welcome to stop by when you are in the area and have a look. We have a fair amount of accumulated Avid knowledge in our little group here in the Tri Cities.

     

    I will be out of town for the next week, maybe two, but will be back after that.

    The footwell design of the Airdale is totally different.

    The mod done by my friend was very simple and easy to do. No jigging or crazy details needed. A couple of sticks of tubing, a little cutting and welding. Done.

    Extending the fiberglass of the standard cowl to cover the modification would be the hardest part.

    If you are building, it is far, far easier to lower and/or lengthen the footwell than it is to raise the overhead.

    This is what my buddy did with his Avid-Kitfox hybrid. His was actually a C model avid fuselage to start.

    I had this trailer built by local dealer, 25' X 8.5".  Through the door 98". inside 100"  Has elect. brakes, LED lights, side door interior lights, and roof vent.

    Works great with the elect. winch I installed.

    I'm in California and so far have only been able to come up with manufacturers in Indiana, Idaho, and Georgia.

    Your best price for a new one might be at Sikeston, Missouri.

    PJ trailers are built by Mexican labor in Texas - they are well made.

    There is a place in Montana that seems to have acres of used trailers for sale on internet.

    There were some local guys here who would build a custom trailer very reasonable, but think they are retired now.

    I made the mistake of not buying one here or there when going to Alaska to move my shop - I paid double up there for a used trailer that broke down in the Yukon, and then paid double for a new PJ in St. John, Canada to haul the first one back to Missouri - That was a very costly trip!

    There are trailer-haulers in several states that will deliver one - A guy doing that from Iowa to Alaska stopped and helped me get going in the Yukon.

    Depending on the seat, a lot of guys have to put a pillow behind them.  There is quite a bit or leg room in the fiberglass seat, and I was able to let the sling seat out enough that it was toes only to hit the rudder pedals.  I am 5'11"

     

    Unless your real handy with welding, I would not be moving the wings etc.  Raising the skylight would not be bad for the first time builder, there are lots of guys that can talk you trough it that have done it.

    I totally agree Leni. The skylight mod is a whole lot easier.

    The Kitfox 1 was about the same legroom as the early Avid, I think.

    The Kitfox 2 had another inch of legroom, and probably same as 3 and 4?

    Someone can probably tell you about the FatAvids - Airdale may have a little more - Bet Magnum does.

    I am supposed to pick up a Fat-Avid / Highlander type fuselage Monday, and can measure that for you - but it may not be standard dimensions.

    I'm so short that I raised the seat up about 8 inches, and the pedals toward me about 3 inches.
