I would put Artic s\Sparrow mixture controls on your carbs. Adjust the carbs from the cockpit.

    Thanks Leni,
I have to send my engine in as a core in the same shape as the engine I'm getting. I thought about going injection but I've just seen too many problems with them. I'm running Amsoil Saber Professional full synthetic at 80:1 anyways. It's my first experience with it and this is the cleanest running two stroke I've ever seen. My engine does not see much idle time. I'd have to plumb the lines and mount the reservoir..all that crap. I'll be playing with the jetting probably as this engine was ran at about 4000 msl. I'm at Sea Level here. I figure he has to pull the Y pipe off to pull the barrels so that's why I asked him to flip it for me when it goes back on. I should be able to come up with a gear puller if the one I have does not work. Thanks for the offer though.

Your Y pipe that you have now will work perfect on the engine. You can use the carbs you have now etc.. You sure you want to remove the oil pump? When idling on the pump, you are about 100:1. As you increase throttle settings, it will increase oil injection up to 50:1. If you run straight 50:1 premix, you will be running a bit richer than if you are oil injected. You also have to play with the jets if you premix oil as the viscosity of the gas just changed and you need a fatter jet to pass the same amount of gasoline.. atleast, this is the way it has been on EVERY snowmobile I disconnected the injection pump on (the late 80s yamaha's were notorious for the pump going out) so I would pull it and run premix.. could not figure out why I kept burning down a cylinder as I had not changed the jets... duuhh.. it was cause I had to change the jets after going premix.

Never pulled a E box, but the B and C boxes are no problems. if you need a gear puller let me know and I can ship one to you Saturday. I believe they are the same for the C and the E gear boxes.

If I can think of anything else I will post it up

Okay my new Blue Head is being built this weekend. It will be torn down, inspected, and have all new seals put in it before it ships out. The builder also told me he would do whatever I wanted to it. I'm going to have him flip the Y-pipe for my inverted application, jet the carbs for my elevation, remove the oil injection pump. It's coming with no gearbox as I'm going to use the one that's on my engine currently. Anything else you guys can think of that I should have him do while it's apart. It only has 100hrs TTSN on it. Anyone ever pulled an E-box off and swapped it to another engine?

    Hey Randy,

Dont be afraid to post up some pics of your build! We are not just about KF or Avids here, if it floats, flys, drives or ... well and one of the other f's . . we are into it and are happy to have it here!

Mind posting a pic on the motor mount? I am going to be needing a mount for my science project here pretty soon, and it may be easier to modify yours than to build mine from scratch.

    Thanks

I bought a 582 out of a Kitfox 4 and it has a 68 inch Powerfin with a 3 to 1 box.The guy that had it said it was a perfect match but I dont know as my plane is not finished yet. A 68 inch prop is about all I can go unless I go with bigger tires. Its a 3 blade ground adjustable and I also see that Powerfin is out of business.I still have the new style motormount for the KF 4 if anybody needs one. Its red powdercoated and has the side mounts, I wish I could use that style on my Skyraider. Randy

A 3.47 to 1 redrive at least on a vw is supposed to be good for 84 inches of propellor Your going to be turning a70 a little slow , but one take of and you will see.But if the deal is good ebay is getting $2500 or more for E boxes. you will only have about 75 percent of prop speed

Thanks for the replies. That engine was a on a trike before. Looks like my other deal is going to go through. I should have a zero timed blue head headed my way soon. I'll be using the E-box that's on my bird now. While were on the subject I've never seen a TBO on the gearbox. Mine very well could have the entire 1200 hours that this engine has on it on the box. It doesn't leak chatter or vibrate so I'm thinking it's probably good to go. Anyone ever heard of a failure of a gearbox from being worn out?

just swap the gear boxes. If you end up with 2 E gear boxes, I may be interested in one of them so I can have Electric start on the new 800 engine...

I would not think the 3.47 would be real good for the avid. Prop would be turning slower, maybe too slow. The higher gear ratios are normally used on PPC, but you never know, you may be able to hog in more pitch and it will pull like a mofo. You should be able to contact one of the outfits like cps or even warp and tell them what you are thinking and see what it will do for you in terms of thrust and speed.

    Isn't Leni running a 72" IVO prop with a 3:1 box?

With a 3.47 and a 70", it may almost turn a little too slow for optimum, or maybe not. Try it, there doesn't seem to be a huge deal with changing ratios.

    Differences between a 3.47 and 2.62 E-box
I am running a 70" warp drive on an Ebox with a 2.62:1 reduction. Think I could still swing the same prop with a 3.47:1 gearbox? The engine in question previously had an 68" Ivo on it. I found a pretty good deal and just trying to consider everything. Having to buy a new prop to switch over will weigh on my decision. Thoughts?

There's a Skyraider and a Ridgerunner in my EAA Chapter. Pretty neat little planes in their own right.

From what I've read toe-in is generally considered bad. Toe out is better.

If you land on one main with toe in, it will want to try to flip the plane over or at least exaggerate the situation. With toe out it will try to straighten the plane out.

The pipe and bend method seems to be the way, as crude as it sounds...

    Wheel Alignment
Hi, Im new to your forum and this question has probably been on here before but I was wondering how much toe-in if any you should have. Im building a Skyraider 2, it is a lot like a Kitfox or Avid only in a tandem seating.Just measuring with a tape measure on a 8 inch tire it is toed in 1/4 inch which seems like a ton and their construction manual doesnt say a thing about it.Someone told me you put a big pipe the axle and physicaly bend it out is this true?I enjoy reading your forum, you sound like a fun bunch.
