    Hi Jim, welcome aboard.

I am running an EA81 on my new Avid+; I don't have a whole lot of hours on it yet but so far I really like it. My setup is a Stratus motor and redrive with RAM dual ignition distributor, mini alternator and serpentine belt for alternator and water pump, dual nose radators, I built the exhaust and used a FMP "Supertrap" type muffler; also using a 72" three blade warp drive prop. There are some pictures of mine in the Avid plus area of this forum.

What setup do you have on yours? Give us an idea what you mean by getting it back in the air?

    BANDIT and other fellow sojourners,
I'm lookig high and low for any info on a rebuild kit (or rebuild strategy) for the EFS-2 throttle body on my Subaru powered EA81 (NSI) MKIV Heavy Hauler. Any info or leads would be appreciated. EFS is now defunct, my throttle body works fine but has some time on it. Would like to just get a rebuild kit (have certified A&P/A&I support). Any vendors or people of knowledge, I would like to hear from you. Thanks to all - Jim

I like the looks of the StolSpeed VG's. I have the ones from Landshorter.com and they look exactly like the ones you linked on ebay. While I did notice a pretty good difference with them on at the the "recommended" 10% of mean cord, I read quite a bit on some testing on super cubs and the greatest benefit was around 2.5%-3%. I glued mine on right out of the box because the wanker said that "extensive" testing had shown that to be the best location. Well from now on I am doing my own tests when the weather warms up, I just hate to ruin the paint on the wing to get these damn things off. Hmm, they are made out of lexan, I wonder if dumping a little gas on them will take them off like it ruins the windshields I guess that would be well worth a try!

    Vortex Generators
Surprised to find very little info here with a search for Vortex Generators. So here's a couple links and info....

    Take a look at eBay.....

Cheapest I've found, and actually may be one of the best designs. I have a set, and will be ordering another for the elevator and rudder.

    Home page for the VG's....

Another excellent page for VG's and INFO!!....

Well those seem like a couple of tiny little details that you should have worked out by tomorrow, if you push it hard you can be here by Saturday

Cmon up, we will be ready to show you around this lil neck of the woods! I was kinda surprised today, no wind and I was able to land on hard pack and have it shut down and back taxing on the ski strip in under 200'. All it takes is time in the bird and making every single landing you make a short field one.

I'd be there except my planes not done,my business is slow and my tail wheel expertise has yet to be established. One or two more lessons and I'll be getting close to my tail wheel endorsement. As far as mountain flying goes well Ive yet to master a 4000 ft paved strip but someday I,ll be visiting you Alaska boys. When I do I,ll be there with bells on. I'd be there, but for the little matters of time off work, distance, lack of mountain flying experience...

If I remember correctly the mark 4 had the gear out in front of the firewall, where an A model is about 3 inches back from the firewall, I don't think it would work but thank you, I don't really want the plane as a trike but trying to figure my options, Blew out every disc in my back and living on tight income right now but if someone has measurements it is an option I might try. LSA legal aircraft are tough to find around h ere and the only one I could get to was a 2 and a half hour drive and it was an ercoupe. Getting my Avid modified and ready to cover I don't know if it would work to fly it as a trike and then switch to a taildragger configuration to get the endorsement but until the lawyers all get things together I don't have the money to go faster on it. At least I earned the sport pilot certificate.

I would call Steve at Airscrew performance. He has sold a boat load of 583's for ultralights and should be able to provide you with the correct jetting.

OK guys, getting calls from the lodge, right now I know that Randy and I are committed to the trip (weather permitting) do we have any other takers? I need to get them something in the next day or two so Dan can ride out and get more supplies to make sure we have a great time up there. I was told that they got 20" of snow up there this weekend but it warmed up a little bit. Forecast is for it to cool off starting tomorrow so we should have some good snow for playing!

Hey guy, had a lot of fun things like this happen to me at about your level of experience. I got away with a few things, some of my friends didn't and paid the cost. I decided to go up one day from a little crop duster strip in a 150 and just check out the conditions. I knew I was in trouble when it took me three attempts to even tune my xceiver to unicom for an airport 30 miles away. Made my pattern (no flaps) and had the stall warner beeping steady at thirty feet up. Went almost full power and rejoined mother earth with wobbly knees. Sat out the rest of the day and finally flew back to the duster strip. Times like these either make you or break you (literally). Been told I could write a book or two on some of my more glorious moments. Truth is, I really don't want people to know just how stupid some of us can be. You brought back a memory or two (or 15, maybe 100 give or take a thousand). Hang tough guy, it ain't over 'till it's over' (original expression of mine). Jim

    Leni,

Hope the chinook stops and we get some decent winter flying weather by Friday; I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Willow got 16" of snow while we were getting rain; hopefully Skwentna area is not quite as warm as we are and keeps things frozen up . Wolf lake currently has ponds of water on top of the ice. I'm hoping it will get cold later in the week and get everything frozen up again. How are conditions in Soldotna?

I have the tricycle gear that my MK 4 had on it when I bought it but I had a guy contact me about it last week. If he decides he doesn't want it, I will let you know.

It is the castering nose gear for an RV-6 on shaped and tapered spring steel that plugs into the nose gear tube in the MK 4 (very nice); and the tricycle main gear that is different than the tail dragger main gear.

    Jack,

Very sorry to hear about Carol's dad passing; you guys have been through the ringer recently. You are in our thoughts and prayers. As you said though, it is a blessing not to have to go through a long suffering. Hopefully the new year will be a healthy one for all of us and our families.

I apologize for coming across a little snippy, wasn't my intention. If ayone des have the info or possibly has a front gear it would save me from having to pay for another plane to get my taildragger edorsement. I have an instructor but until hours are flown off I don't think he would teach me in my plane. I amgettng close but not having a heated hanger ight now is my biggest slow down. That and a 2 hour drive to rent a light sport plane is cutting into my flying time and I am starting to jones alittle.

  25. SuberAvid added a post in a topic Rotax 583 Jetting (Not 582!)

I ran the Mikuni carbs on my 670 rotax and then switched the intake boots and ran the same carbs on my 582 after the 670 bit the dust (I don't think the failure had anything to do with the jetting though). If I remember right I ran a range of main jets between 340's in the summer to 370's in the winter. I generally ran the needle clip in the center but in the coldest part of winter (below 0) would raise it one ring. That might give you a place to start but use your EGT's to determine the correct jets. You will generally find that it will run hottest in a gradual decent with the throttle pulled back and the airspeed driving the prop causing it to run lean, so be sure to watch the EGT's when you throttle back.
