Looking forward to next years meeting. Congrats. on the award. The new gear from Airdale sure looked like it would have saved your truss. See ya next year. Russ.

Had too much fun to take many pictures... Sorry. I will get some stuff up as I can.

Dave (the guy building the Kitfox-Avid bastard) brought home a plaque for "Outstanding Class B Custom Classic" for his 1949 Piper Clipper restoration.

I got a plaque for "Honorable Mention, Light-Sport Plane" for my yellow Kitfox IV (and a bent bungee truss...).

Now I'm going to pass out in my own, over air conditioned, extra comfy, bed.

    Cup of tea
    ONLY A GRANDMOTHER WOULD KNOW...

    ~A Cup of Tea ~

One day my Gramma was out, and my Grampa was in charge of my sister.
She was maybe 3 1/2 years old. Someone had given her a little 'tea set' as a gift, and it was one of her favorite toys.

Grampa was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when she brought him a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Gramma came home.

My Grampa made her wait in the living room to watch her bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' Gramma waited, and sure enough, here she came down the hall with a cup of tea for Grampa, and she watched him drink it up.

Then she said, (as only a gramma would know), "'Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water, is the toilet?"

  5. akflyer added a post in a topic Static RPM

With my IVO I set it for 6150 or 6200 on the run up check when I set my mixture. It will give me 6450 or 6500 on take off. But I can bump more pitch in at cruise. If your not turning 6500 on takeoff / climb out then chances are pretty good that your leaving alot of performance on the table. It all depends on what your mission is. Getting out short and climbing, or a better cruise

6300 on take off... 6500 ish level flight full throttle...this is on a tiny tach... my needle tach was soooooo far off when I put my new engine in that it was worthless. I do my mag check by ear... anything more than 150rpm is pretty easy to hear.

I have a 3 blade 68 inch Powerfin prop on my Skyraider, havent flown it yet but have done lots of taxiing and did a runup with it tied to my truck. At full throttle it read 6340 on my digital tach, its a 582 with a C box. Powerfin says it should be around 6000.What are you guys running yours at?Thanks Randy

Good point. I've never flown or calculated the CG of a tandem. Thanks for the honest comments, these are important factors that the manufacturers tend to leave out. I think I might look more closely at the Kitfox, especially if I choose the part out the C-150. I can use the 0-200 in one of the newer Foxes. However, if the right deal in a sky raider comes along....

The back seat person cant be too tall, not much leg room. The way I figure it you would be out of balance before you could get to gross weight unless it was about a 350 pound pilot.200 pound in front and 200 pound in back, full fuel with 20lbs in storage sack behind rear seat and you just come in under most aft w&b.Unless you just like tandems like myself then you could probably haul more payload with a Avid or Kitfox, the side by side keeps the CG closer.

That's not too bad. Even at 507 empty that gives you nearly 700lbs useful. Heck, that's two big guys, full fuel and baggage... beats the hell out of my Cessna 150F.

428 empty you musta filled the wheels and tanks with helium! When akflyerbob rebuilt his model one he went light weight on everything with BAREBONES pannel and it still came out at 500# With a 582 and the radiators etc, it is a very hard thing to get them to come in even remotely close to the factory advertised specs. I know my Avid did not come remotely close, but I have big dual tanks, and a few other goodies that are gonna get ripped out. I also went with Medium weight fabric on the entire plane, but the good folks at poly fiber said it only added a couple pounds. I went VERY THIN on the paint other than the silver, it got the reccomended layers of that, but the top coat was shot on just enough to cover the silver.

My original weight with the good ole bathroom scales was 583#, but when I paid the jackwagons to weigh it on real digital aircraft scales it came in at 568. The ballance point did not change cause all the numbers were off about the same, I was just able to put another couplke bottles in the bagage area for those extended camping trips

I'm a bit surprised at those numbers. The KF-III Operator's Manual lists 440lbs. empty weight, my W&B was 428lbs. empty on the wheel gear.

The lightest one that I have seen was around 480,most people that I have talked to said they were over 500 with Jabirus in them.Mine came in at 507 with a 582,was hoping for a lighter number but I added a couple extra stringers and panel has built in radio, etc. Its real easy to add stuff but the weight adds up in a hurry. The 430 number seems awfully low but it may be do able.I have talked to guys with Kitfox 2,s and 3,s and they to were over 500.Not sure what weight the Avids come in at but they all have pretty much the same wing. Will be able to give a flight report in two weeks from today.Randy

What is the empty weight of your Super Sky Raider? Is it really 430lbs like they advertise? Looking forward to a flight report!

When I told Randy about this joke I thought we'd both wet our shorts. I wonder if the guy skipped like a flat rock when the biker threw him off the bridge? I know it's a joke but you can't help but carry it on in your mind. Can you see the biker spitting after he got done kissing that guy? I wonder what the bike's new name is?

Just a reminder to you guys
Here on this forum its OK to hang out and BS.. tell lies about fishing, bike riding or whatever your passion is. PLane stories and pics dont have to be related to only the Avid or kitfox families! I love to hear stories about ANYTHING aviation related (or fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling etc) so dont be afraid to post up anything here! If its outdoors related, its welcome here

    Two words: You Suck!

A buddy from my neck of the woods is on his way. He finished his Phase I about 2 days before he left in his brand new Rans S-6. He's stuck right now and has been battling heat and high winds the whole way. Pretty ballsy flying a brand new plane halfway across the country solo if you ask me but I land on hillsides so what do I know

Have fun Larry and for Gods sake take pictures for the rest of us poor bastards to Stare at!
