Those are some nice pictures! Makes me feel good to see someone else flying around with a side mounted radiator. I was doing a runup yesterday and decided to open the cabin heat vent and WOW, it pumps the heat out nicely. Should be plenty come winter time up here.

Yessir, that there truss is definitely pranged.

Actually looks a bit worse than I imagined at OSH. As they say, covering can hide a multitude of sins, but I'm pleased to hear she's all patched up and none the worse for wear. Curious how long your safety cables were and if you felt them bottom? Do you think longer cables might have prevented or saved some of the damage? I've read some guys don't even install them, though that would seem not too bright IMHO. Perhaps there is a happy medium?
On a lighter (well, at 220#, maybe not) note, glad my fat butt wasn't in the right seat.

P.S. Actually, I do own an iPhone and a few Apple shares, but I never did warm up to those dang MACs. AppleFanBoi?!... NOT!

This shot shows the truss with bungees removed ready to start the repair.

Doug, it's bad enough I have an iPhone now. Don't start on the Apple computer schmidt now...

Wow, that is wide! With Matco W62 6" wheels and 8.00x6 tires, the track on my Avid+ with Airdale's W.I.B. gear measures 75" wide from tire center to center.

It is still on the bench.. But my significant other is now indisposed of for about the next 13 months so I will have lots of time now to get back on this project instead of trying to keep her out of trouble

First 4 or 5 landings I am surprised I did not get called in for flying drunk in my brothers KF. I dont like them on asphalt. I stick to the dirt or grass as much as possible. I still like my chains a little loose so the tailwheel can unlock a little easier, but I am going into strips at times that I am dragging the wingtips thru the trees on each side and dont have room to turn around unless it unlocks RIGHT NOW. I will try and get some vids in the next day or two of one such spot at a buddies fishing camp.

#1 rule is the feet NEVER stop moving. You have to anticipate and correct before it ever starts to go anywhere.

#2 Get your brakes up to snuff. Spending a few hundred on better pedals and masters is a whole lot cheaper than repairs. Took me alot of hours to justify the cost, but once I did it, I was pretty pissed at myself I had not done it right away!

#3 Burn lots of gas. You dont have a prayer at getting better if your not out practicing. Lots of evenings I will just hit the airport and do 5 or 6 touch n goes (or stop and goes) and call it a night, but I try and fly every day I am home and the weather cooperates.

Dont feel bad Russ, Ive been going through the same thing with my Skyraider.I had to tighten my tail wheel chains up one link and that helped alot on both takeoff and landing. On my landings I started watching the end of the runway instead of what is right in front of me and that also helped.I doubt if any of our forum buddies mastered it right off the bat and if they did more power to them.Remember keep the stick planted in your navel when you land, that was the hardest thing for me. Now that I have had a couple days to think over all the great advice I have received, I will keep N844RS a TD. Thanks for all the help. I checked all of the problems that could have caused the ground loops on my landings, 4 in all. The Aircraft Products tail wheel was breaking free with full left rudder and close to free with full right. I moved the holes on the rudder bell crank in on each side problem solved. I
took slack out of the springs. Checked for tow in and out. Ground handeling was much improved. The take off was straight and true. The landing was the problem again. I now know the problem is my lack of TD
ability. With repairs will be installation of wider main gear, and TD
    training. Russ. N844RS

I found the same thing on mine. At 11" it was full up trim and had to hold some back pressure on the stick. At 16" I could cruise at neutral trim on the elevator. At 18" it took just a touch of down trim to hold level flight at 100 MPH indicated. I am pretty certain that my ASI is kinda like the Yamaha or Skidoo "dream-o-meter" because the GPS even in still air says I am cruising 85-90 then the ASI says 110-115. One of these days I will get off my ass and calibrate it

I was going to move the battery to the tail, but I scrapped that idea because I won't have that big battery when I go to the other engine (no electric start).

On my 35% Extra I had a tube in the tail I could slide a 1 pound weight into. For doing the IMAC competitions I liked the rock solid feel at the forward CG (alot more precision on the point rolls and snaps), but for Free Style and 3D the CG needed to be WAY back otherwise I would get ALOT or wing rocking at high alpha (harriers, rolling harriers etc).

Max attachement size is something like 24 MB. I have issues on a slow connection also at times. Try it again and let me know what happens!

Hi Joey, she's flyin' better the more her ass weighs! She still exhibits the same stability. I had a Super Hots r/c airplane, which was a great flying plane. I wanted to see what an airplane with a WAY rearward cg flew like. So i kept adding tail weight. What i found was that yaw stability is not an issue, and at speed pitch was not that bad, of course i knew what was going on. But... when slowing down, power and down elevator had to be added as the tail would drop thus causing the nose to rise. So you wouldn't flair, you wold kind of push the nose on to the ground for landing. This was back when the 3d craze was starting. Ironically, now that i'm thinking about it, that super hots was set up with a forward cg per plans just like the Avid. Here's a video from this am. The trim will now hold 55 mph in the pattern, whereas before it could hold 67.

The picture (attachment) seems to load, but it just sits there with the scroll bar complete, but the "thinking" arrows still going. I left it go for almost an hour (!) last evening thinking it was just a slow connection...

The first photo loaded fine, but the next ones didn't. Is there a max photo size (100KB or something)?

Ya talked me into it.. I am going to get the VG's on my tail when I get home, hopefully this weekend!

Nice pics! I did a couple hours of flying around with the doors open 2 weeks ago. Hell I was flying with them open this winter (had an exhaust leak on the way back from the lodge) 2 hrs with the doors open at -20 make you appreciate GOOD snowmachine gear

I just looked at your settings.. Nothing that would prevent you from posting pics and nothing has been changed on this end since the last picture you posted. What kind of error message are you getting??
