I wasn't even pushing it. I think I could have cut 10 seconds off If I wanted.

I wouldn't put electric start on the 503, no need for it. I have never owned an airplane with an electrical system. Thousands of airplanes flying with no starters.

The picture of the Bandit is the same picture the Avid factory used in their brochure when I bought my Bandit. It was their airplane to.

We don't care what the bird is called - We even have some members flying factory "spam-cans"!  all are welcome here, even PPC flyers with the engine in front......some of us even admit to being "Ercoupe Drivers", and some with the tailwheel mounted in the nose,  but the "real pilots" still talk to us.

The Aerotrek/Eurofox is not a dirty name here.  I know of at least one of the usual suspects around here that even owns one!  *Gasp!*

    Their "Champion" is a Belite.

Their "The Tricycle Gear" plane shown is a Just Escapade.

Their "The Float Plane" shown I believe is actually Brett McKinny's Avid Mark IV.

They have a fairly polished nice looking website.  They spent some money there making a cut and paste collage of Avid, Just and Aerotrek photos.  Their phone number is Palm Beach County Florida.

If those struts are the same diameter as the other Avids Rans sells some premade ones that will slide right over and they are pretty cheap.

    Hi Robert

Thanks, that is good to know.  I will wait until I see the Avid (hopefully this weekend) before getting back to you, as of course it may not be worth buying in the first place.

Also, I stumbled upon a really useful article which discusses the Avid and Kitfox history, flight characteristics and so on (and compares this with the current EuroFox kits based on the Avid) which was made by our UK LAA (Light Aircraft Association).  Those EuroFox kits look awesome, but massively out of my price range, so I am likely to still be sticking with an Avid.

Here is the link in case anyone is interested (though please don't beat me up for mentioning Euro Fox on an Avid KitFox forum - just so happens that the article answers some of the questions I was asking very well   http://www.eurofoxuk.co.uk/LA%20Nov%20EuroFOX%20FD%20flight%20test.pdf

Thanks again for your help chaps.

If you're interested I have a new poly behind the instrument panel fuel tank with a new uncut fiberglass instrument panel to attach to it. I went with new wing tanks so didn't use it. that seems to be what most do anymore but if you don't want to cut into your wings it is an option. If you're interested let me know I will try and get some pics of it for you. also have the original fill neck and cap for it as well.

I might use this to do the horizontal stabilizer struts. I've been thinking they need to be faired a bit. Looks like by the writers stats I should pick up about 2 MPH by doing that, it would sure be worth it.

You can camp where ever and with whom ever you want, but you will get parked as you arrive.

They usually won't allow anyone to save a spot for their buddy coming the next day or what not.

We can all strategize later on a way to try and park close...

My wife and I are now planning on attending Oshkosh this year. Looks like I should be able to have Pursang there and looking pretty good for the event. Not sure when we will be coming in yet, but probably Thursday through Saturday at a minimum. For those that have been, is there a way to get camping where you want to be, i.e. with the group, or is it just luck of the draw when you show up? Any tips would be helpful. We plan to camp for the time we're there. Looking forward to meeting everyone as well! I'm one lucky guy to have a wife into planes as much as I am.

  24. lostman added a post in a topic Those of you with dual wing tanks, lets talk plumbing to the header?

When I was talking to John during the time I was picking up the Pursang he said that a lot of the Kitfox problems in their fuel lines could be traced down to having a vent line in the header tank. I can't repeat what he told me about it, but mostly because I don't remember. Pursang has the tank lines coming to a shut off valve that are for each line before the header, then through a clear filter to a pump. It also has a secondary fuel pump incase the first one goes out. From the fuel pumps the lines go straight to the carbs. Fairly simple system that has over 680 hours on it and works well. The bottom of the header tank (under the panel) goes to a fuel sump for the lowest part of the system. My header tank is only about 1.5 quarts though...I haven't measured it but it's not very large. I thought it was 1/2 gallon according to John, but I was up under the panel today working on interior and found it's smaller than I remembered.

I echo the K.I.S.S. principle that was already brought up. My motto is, if it's not there it can't break!

WANTED - NOSE GEAR SHAFT MATERIAL
Wondering if anyone has a source or idea of some kind of material or part that could be used as a nose wheel pivot shaft - chrome-plated - 3/4" to 1" diameter 1/8" to 1/4" wall, or solid, and 6 to 12 inches long.  Must be weldable, and prefer 4130.  Maybe a shaft or rod from some machine?  There should be one in a scrap pile somewhere.
    Thanks,
    EdMO
