However, a safety cable on the gear might keep you from a disaster if a bungee breaks.

Those tires look awesome! They are 8's not 6's? What's the price?

    New Guy
Another "Old Guy" New Guy,  I just re-acquired my Model C after I sold it 10 years ago.  Back in the cockpit again!  It has lived in a garage on the trailer for the last 10 years with only a few hours added so I bought it back.

I've been trolling the forum for a while and since I now have my plane back thought I would join up and be part of the fun.  I had a few things to repair and have to "Annual" the plane.  It has not had an annual since 2006.  I replaced the dead battery with a gel cell.   It had some minor damage while in storage, hole in the right wing aft root panel but is covered with Stitts (poly fiber) so the repair was easy and the rest of the fabric is almost like it was when I sold it in 2005.  The muffler needed to be remounted so it does not bang against the lower cowl and the cowl needed a bit of minor fiberglass work and touch up paint. The compass diaphragm failed after sitting so long so I made a new diaphragm and refilled the body with mineral oil thinned with mineral spirits.  The "Tiny Tach" internal lithium battery had died (probably 5 years ago) so I dis-assembled the glued together case, carved out the filler material till I got to the battery, removed the expired battery and soldered leads to the tabs and re-glued the case together.  I now have 2 AAA cells in a battery holder external to the case I can replace when they run out of power. I pulled the bowls from the carbs and they were clean with only a bit of residual oil, jets were clean so...ran the engine, Fired right up...pops like it should.  I have to re-learn the jetting details for prop pitch and temperature changes.

After inspecting everything, every nut and bolt,  I think it is all good to go.  The only thing I'm not too sure about is the gear bungee.   It is the original stuff as far as I know, that would make it at least 15 years old. I would sure hate to have a gear failure.

Does anyone remember how long the bungee is and what size it is?  There are plenty of marine supply houses in this area so raw material should be available locally.

Fortunately I still have the repairman's cert for the plane.

After I get the appropriate administrative entries made in the log books I should fly it this week.

When I figure the forum out some more I'll post pictures.

they are on 8" douglas wheels.they actually shipped at 39 pounds .maybe a pound of plastic on them.that would put them around 19 ea.
I think I might do a  light weight battery to eat in to that.
ive also been waiting that year too, been calling desser every two weeks for three months.hopefully we have a lower cost alt to the abw

I've been following these for a year now. I'd like to see some good numbers on weight compared to the Nancos. I just spent a pile of money on my plane but these may be next on the list.

They claim 20.5 lbs each. I have a new set of Nancos in the hangar will have to weigh one. Ed yes they are for an 8" rim. They should work with the 8" Douglas rims.

I have not seen any GSC tools on sale at ebay, but there have been a few Warp Drive Protractors listed.
Better yet - get a decent carbon fiber prop!
    EDMO
BTW:  You should be able to set the blades equally with a cheap machinist's square and protractor combination tool - Like Harbor Freight, Stanley, Lowes, others,  sells...You don't need the expensive ones.
OR:  Better Yet - How about making a fixture with a cheap Laser beam level thingy, like Jim Chuk made ?

Anyone have a GSC propeller Pitch Adjusting Tool that they no longer use ?

Most have switched to other brands of props , so there should be a few collecting dust out there.

    Thanks

Thanks guys I cleaned everything up real well today including my wheels. Painting today. Sounds like there is quite the process setting the ride height and pressure of the nitrogen set up on this gear. I am flying out on the KC10 this week but hoping to have it on in the next few weeks.

I'm getting old - Should have remembered the spray brake cleaner !
Maybe I breathed too much MEK, acetone, carb cleaner, and epoxy while I was working?
Tried for 2 hours yesterday to think of the title of the book written in the 1500's which talks about my family Castle and lands in England - finally remembered - "Ivanhoe" !  And, I have read it several times...
Got to finish "Foxy" before I forget how I planned to do it !

You can use spray brake cleaner to clean the brake fluid off the pad. Works great.
