My crew was tasked to move a C130 Fuselage to another base this weekend. It had been being used a cargo load trainer for the folks that handle pallets. Not everyday we get a load like this.

Cripes that is a big ass bird! I miss seeing them fly by my window at eye level going into Hickam all day long. Damn things are so big it looked like they were hardly moving and were ready to drop out of the sky!

In the second and third pic look how small the people are compared to it. It's amazing when you walk around it. The tires are 49" tall....hell it weighs 381,000lbs EMPTY. Gross is 840K. Burns more fuel on light off than I'll burn in my Avid in a lifetime probably.

You could probably do touch and go's inside of that beast. We drag race right by Fairchild and its awesome to see them fly over on final.Looks like they are just going to fall right out of the sky. Where are you going on your 1500 mile trip?Keep us posted.Randy

I flew in one out to Johnston Atol... They are freekin HUGE inside. I think the Avid is small when I get out of the Beaver or Otter... I can only imagine how you feel after getting out of that bird and then going for an evening cruise in your Avid

Assuming your talking about the Airway Heights track by the Casino? I was stationed at Fairchild for two years. When were out shooting touch and go's and the jet is empty with barely any fuel our approach speed is in the very low 100's. That wing is 222ft long and with full width flaps and slats creates some MASSIVE lift. The other day we had winds gusting right down the pipe up to 32. I saw 88kts groundspeed for a little bit till we pushed it up to meet VMGS (Min ground speed... TAS-headwind component). As the engineer performance data is my bread and butter. I do all the take off and landing data among every other number performance related. Randy I'm flying up to Elk River and Orofino over Labor Day weekend. Spending Friday night and Saturday in Homedale and the annual Kitfox factory Fly-in then headed North Sat afternoon to spend the rest of the weekend up there in 6C country.

Thats pretty impressive stuff, one year John Force was racing at Spokane Raceway and he was in line with the funny car body up,a C5 flew over and I remember him shaking his head as it flew over us,like what in the hell was that.If you fly up North stop in at St. Maries(s72)They have the big Paul Bunyan hoopla going on that weekend.Im usually archery hunting but will be home this year.Have a safe flight. Randy
