C box air vent

On my 582's I have never used the C box air vent and have never noticed an issue. For whatever reasons possessed me I added the air vent to my C box and it seems to throw a lot of oil out. I was very careful not to over fill but throws just the same. What are your opinions, keep it and keep filling back up or get rid of it?

I have the old style vented cap on mine.  When I was trying to balance the prop I replaced it with a threaded plug modified to mount an accelerometer.  With the plugged vent, it did leak some oil out the rear seal.  I've had no leakage after returning to the vented cap.

Just checking, but you're only filling the gear oil to the lower of the two witness holes, correct?  When filled correctly the gearbox only is about 1/4 to 1/3 full of oil.
