AFF Mini Flyout

Leni, Bob and I made a good representation at our first AFF 2013 AK flyout this weekend; Leni's AvidC/MkIV, Bob's KF1 and my Avid+.  The weather was nice and we all met up at the McArthur River for some fun and fishing.  The fish cooperated and we actually caught a couple of kings, some nice rainbows, and a few reds.  I think the rainbow in the pic was around 25", the biggest rainbow I have caught so far.  Got to burn some dogs over the campfire and enjoy some good company.  The weather started to look threatening so we didn't get to do any further exploring since Leni and Bob had to make that crossing of the Cook Inlet with a good headwind while on tires; always a bit nerve wracking!

Wind and thermals made it a bit bumpy on the way home; I was flying a slightly different path and I see this white thing in a patch of swamp that tlooks like an airplane.  As I circle around lower it is easy to see that it had the swept wings of a jet, and the distinctive star and bars of the USAF.  The pictures I took were not very good because I was getting pretty tossed around in the thermals so I will have to visit it again and get some good ones.  I talked to a buddy of mine today who flew for the National Guard and he knew about the plane.  If he remembered correctly it was an F104 Thud flown by the AF/Guard up here for a while.  Man I love flying; you never know what you are going to see.

It was an awesome day! I got a nasty sun burn, but I would do it again in a heart beat! I got the floats out on the plane and they exceeded my expectations! I will fly into that river any time on the edo floats! I can't wait to fish some more over there! Thanks for sharing the fishing hole with us! We ended up having a pretty quick flight back home..

I dropped the belly radiator down 2" and it's cooling good. It was 80 oat and even in a hard extended climb she never went above 170! I was a happy camper!! But now I'm going to swap to the mk iv incowl radiators.

a few shots from the trip that day!  I was thinking it was the soft sand that made me take forever to get in the air, but I am thinking the 89+ temps had a little something to do with it too!

Randy,

As lomg as the water level is atleast what it was last time we were there, I can get in on the floats no problem.  Places like that is where I wish I was on the FL floats as they dont care about logs and sticks or the occasional rock

Hopefully we can find some good places to go with bars long enough for you guys to land on and water deep enough for me to land on!
