A&P on duty... the price is right too.

This post is to re-establish the offer to assist, if possible, with aircraft related information and such.  I don't have specific Kitfox construction experience, just 30 + years in general aviation service, maintenance, and restoration as an A&P with I.A.. Dope and fabric is included.

I was a maintenance instructor for a number of years at a FAA approved Part 147 A&P school also.

I would always tell new student that "I don't know everything about aviation maintenance, but give me a few minutes and I can look up the correct information..."

I think the best reference for building any aircraft is AC 43.13 1b  Acceptable Methods, Techniques and Practices

http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAdvisoryCircular.nsf/0/99C827DB9BAAC81B86256B4500596C4E?OpenDocument

Best to have in handy book form, but it's available on the net in many forms.

Thanks for the offer and the link.  I have downloaded the PDFs and made my own book.  BTW, if you have it in the PDF format, you can hit control F type in whatever you are seaching for and it will find the related words.  I use this feature ALOT in dealing with code books and code question.  Real nice quick reference tool!

Yes thanks for the link & offer. Steve, we talked in email once & I got busy & didn't get back to you but found your explanation very informative. I do prefer this particular format for a forum over the email list type though I don't tend to post much. I sure don't see any problem with having more than one forum dealing with the same subjects. I'll post some pics of my fledgeling project when I get some time. I've got it stored now until I build my shop. :)' Thanks again for the interesting book.

Hey Steve, I need some advise.

A buddy picked up a nice Colt a couple months ago.  I flew up and got it for him and brought it home.  It was in annual, and flew great.  Iwent over it real good to make sure it was airworthy before I started the trip back over the mountains and open water.  He just had an annual done on it and the dill weed charged him 2500 to fix a very small crack in the lower cowling (it was about 1/2" long).  I need to know what I should do

1) Junk punch the A&P for being an ass

2) Break his nose for being an ass

3) hire a few guys named bubba to rape him just like he did to my buddy

4) decorate his hangar with gay porn and tell everyone in town he is into some wierd shit.

Just kidding, I am bored today can ya tell

Leni,

Keep an eye out for corrosion around the lower door frame square tubing, and around the bottom fuselage tubing. These types of Pipers are known for having places where moisture collects.

The lower fuselage tubing sometimes rusts when there is excess fabric left after attaching with the glue. The square door tubing is light weight steel, and water has a habit of getting trapped in the lower rear corner. The square tubing is tack welded over the main round tubing.

Now...,  just send me $800.00 cash for that information. :beerchug:

Steve-

I have an empty ACK Technologies ELT bracket in a plane I just bought, although the 'telephone' cord is run to the ELT remote switch on the panel. Basically, looks like the previously installed ELT was removed and never put back.

I have an AmeriKing ELT, mount and remote switch I can use but I'm curious if the wiring and ACK Technolgies remote switch is 'plug 'n play' compatible with the AmeriKing ELT? Be nice if I didn't have to replace the switch or wiring. I've looked for schematics but come up empty. Thanks.

-Doug
