Hi Everyone,

I am a new memeber, my name is Randy. I live in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada, but spend most of my time in northern Alberta, north of Fort Mcmurray. I just put a deposit down on a Kitfox IV-1050 that I will be picking up near the end of the month.

Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself, I'm a private pilot who previously owned a Piper Tri-Pacer, but I am excited about having a Kitfox and looking forward to doing some off airport work in it. Eventually I'd like to work my way up to landing on sandbars and river banks, but will start with less difficult off-strip stuff first. My plane also has skis so I am looking forward to trying those out next winter.

Hi Randy, welcome to the dark side

What engine do you have in the plane? What tires etc? That will determine how she does off airport. If you have the stock wheels, the nanking tires seem to be about the best option. If you going for gravel bars and sandy beaches, check into the matco 8" wide tailwheel. It will be one of the best upgrades you can do for short money.

These birds on skis is a kick in the ass. Light weight fun flying birds for certain.

It has the 582 engine although I would like to upgrade to the 912 at some point. It has the stock wheels and tires for now, soon I will probably buy the Nanco 21" tires for the 8" wheels but eventually I would like to convert to 6" wheels and the Airstreak 29" tires. Need to save up a while first though, those Airstreaks are big $$$. A Matco tailwheel is definitely high on my priority list as well.

Welcome to the Forum Randy,

You can get some good info here from folks that have "been there, done that", and sometimes a "Don't do that!".

Good Flying,

ED in MO (Many trips thru your beautiful Canada - Just wish my ancestors could have kept it for the U.S. to link with Alaska)

Hello Randy, welcome and congrats on your new toy! Curious what your empty weight is, they say a 4-1050 doesn't weigh in at mush more than a model 3. Don't forget to post up the obligatory new baby pics when you get 'er home!

Welcome aboard! These forums are a gold mine of info. Maybe I'll catch up with you at some of the fly-ins here in Alberta. I'm headed to Lloydminster for the fly in this weekend and if I have time might swing over to the fly in near Morinville. I hear a boat load of small plane fly in to that grass strip if the weather is nice.

Thanks Darcy,

I believe I came and looked at your plane a couple of months ago, and you took me for a flight in your Avid. If it wasn't you then then there's somebody else named Darcy with an Avid that looks just like yours ;)

I'd like to make it out to some fly-ins, or even get together some Sunday and go flying with some other Kitfox/Avids or any low/slow type airplane, just need to get some time off.

I don't know the empty weight yet, haven't even seen the plane in person yet, but once I get it home I will take some pictures and let you guys know what the empty weight is.

Thanks again for the welcome,

Randy
