Aircraft stripper. If you blast, use glass beads or plastic media. Sand is too rough/tough.

  3. Fly-n-Low added a post in a topic Looking for some advice on a plane purchase

I learned tailwheel in a Citabria. The Avid is short and the gear narrow so you better have some.... a lot of tail experience IMO.

I wonder how many will admit going around in an Avid? Me twice. Once was almost bad.

They make wider landing gear and a fuselage extension for a reason!!!

That said, I am fine with a short fuse and wider tundra gear!

  4. Fly-n-Low added a post in a topic In line fuel filter

I have two glass screens from my tanks to the header where I can see them. Then two smaller filters, one per carb, under the cowl.
I really don't like my on and off valve as it is not an aircraft part. I did replace the cheap primer with one from a Piper. Much better!

Near Head-on this past Saturday evening
Driving down the hwy out in the country coming back from the store with beer on my passenger seat, doggie in the back seat. Thinking about cooking and eating supper with my son.... I see two cars approaching one behind the other. Right at the last minute, the car behind yanks out to pass. I was like, "F**k, that is close!!!" I hit the brakes hard with bright lights blazing!!! The car being passed realized what was happening and braked hard also! That sure helped us both. I would have left the road partially, but not enough to kill myself. My truck weighs over 7K# and has a 3" level with 34" tall shoes. I can take out an Impala. Or at least make a mark to provide proof of fault. These days, you leave the road and roll over, they will keep going............. SO I moved to the edge of the road, but held my ground. F**k them!!! Doggie hit the rear seat (Charlie is fine. Thankfully Aussies are TOUGH) and I had broken beer leaking in my floor!!! I almost turned around to pursue but had to check on Charlie.

Not two days ago I was passed in a no passing zone (double yellow) on same hwy. 55mph speed limit. I was doing 60 when they passed me. This is common.
I am done with this shit!!!
So I have been looking at cameras. I had to go for the Garmin and their 4 camera versatility. I can run two systems, then bind them all for a 4 camera system for trips, etc.
Here is the first one I looked at: Link for the Qvia at a retailer. $220 two camera, GPS included. Says regular $359. Looks like a good deal...

    BUT GARMIN!!!

With Garmin, you buy separate cameras. I bought the 56 with a Mini and the cable to set it up for motion detection while parked.

    Factory price:

    56 $200
    Mini $129
    Power cord $ 34

So, $353? But it IS Garmin. How much is your deductible?

    56: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/66.../010-02231-10#

    Mini: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/62.../010-02062-00#

Power cord to enable motion sensors when parked. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/pn/010-12530-03
Opinions are welcome. Hard to believe we have to resort to this.

UP SIDE... It would work on a plane???

  13. Fly-n-Low added a post in a topic what is a bush pilot?

I as shaking my head "yes" the entire time I was reading that, Leni!!!
All I know about true bush flying I learned from TV shows, fishing, hunting shows and the few movies. Landing on gravel bars to fish, hunt, etc. Those are the bush pilots.
Not going to get too far on on a limb, but those YouTube stars and their gang aren't bush pilots.

Boy would that suck!! Really suck if you totaled your bird in the middle of no where like you say.
And being above the water. I was thinking that when I rode around with a buddy in a J3 over the Mississippi river. Down here it can be a mile wide depending on the stage.
    Hope they heal up okay!

  20. Fly-n-Low added a post in a topic Another engine out from an oil injection failure

I am going to keep mine. And I thought it was spring loaded to go full oil if the cable breaks.
BTW no way I'm gonna go 100:1!!!
And the liquid vs air cooled. I run Merc oil in my Stihl saws no problems. And then I have air cooled oil and a liquid cooled Rotax?

  23. Fly-n-Low added a post in a topic GPL Starter For 582

How big of a deal is it to put a regular starter on and, how large of a box do you have to build? I still have a string puller and just wondering how much trouble. It runs as is, but for the first start I stand outside and pull with both hands. I have to give it a bit of throttle and you have to be quick to back it off. I will say it usually starts with one pull. And wheels chocked of course.
Mine does that anyway if you let it sit for a while. Even with the oil pump. With the engine inverted, there is so much residual oil in the crankcase it will eventually ooze past the rings.

  25. Fly-n-Low added a post in a topic Aileron attachment rib end repair

I inspected mine. Checked for rot and sanded on them. Painted them and put the flaperons back on. If it hasn't been out in the weather, it should be fine. I have heard of only two failures that resulted in an incident.
