  2. Gents- I will be recovering my Model C soon, going with Oratex.  I am debating repainting the fuselage in the process.  Majority of the fuselage paint is in good shape, no rust present.  I am simply thinking of updating the color. ;)  Just starting the homework....

    • Who knows what type of factory paint - or - powder coating was used by Avid?  My plane has the normal white/off-white color.
    • If a paint (not powder coat), would there be any hesitation in painting over the existing finish (with light prep of course)?  I would like to avoid stripping the existing finish if possible.

    Thanks for any input.

  3. Hello Gents,

I have a pair of Avid STOL wings for sale here in San Diego.

Age and full condition unknown, they will require restoration, including rib-tail flaperon attachments.  Flaperons not included.

Asking $500 for the pair and motivated to clear some space!  I have jury struts available as well, separately.

Email or PM me with any questions.  Will be posting to Barnstormers soon.

    Thanks!

    Phil

  4. nlappos - found this just as you linked me from the other post.  Thanks!  Looking forward to any additional performance experience you get especially as it compares to the 582.

  5. My 670 puts out at least 92 HP, and it added a total of 20 lbs to my 582 Mark IV, engine, prop, belly radiator and Highhwing gear, all  actual flying weight. And it cost a bunch less than a 912, $3400 and a turn in of the 582 to Rotax Rick.

You have me curious about the 670. Do you have a link to any posts on the improvements you have found and what the conversion from the 582 involved? Thx.

  6. Thanks, Jim.   Admittedly, just looks ,  no other good reason.  I can understand shortening the lift struts but I assume the spar-fuselage bolts and clearance holes would no longer line up?

  7. Hey Gents - Heading into restoring my wings - I am curious if there is a way to reduce the wing dihedral once a wing is already drilled and rigged.

Thanks for letting me know any options !

  8. Gents- does anyone have detail dimensioned drawings or CAD for STOL wing ribs?  I am setting up my CNC to cut new rib tails and forms for new wing tips

    Thanks!

Georgeous plane.  Perhaps this was asked earlier but it appears you have very little dihedral.  Only curious, is this by design or your implementation in the build?

  10. Hey Mike

Just to confirm, are these the Desser 27 10-8 tires?  (old posts and the links no longer work)

What 8” wheels and brake setup would you guys recommend?

For those folks running these tires, have they worn well?

    thanks!

  11. Leni built the engine mount for Jeff's Avid and for my Avid Plus.  He built a jig so he can fabricate these now.  He posted a thread on this forum showing the one he built for me; excellent work.  Look under the Avid/ Kitfox parts and suppliers, Fat Avid 912 mount.

Great. I’ll check that out. Thanks!

  12. Many thanks Bryce for the FaceTime walk around.  Several good ideas and agree a couple inches will make a big difference.

Okay Guys.  I may be the tallest Avid owner/pilot at 6’ 5”.  Let’s just say things are tight, especially with feet/leg position.  I need your help on options to get more legroom!

I see limited gains from changing the seat alone and adding domes in the Lexan above my head, I think I really need to look at pushing my rudder pedals forward with clean modifications.

My project Model C is planned for the 582.   The basic exhaust may limit firewall modifications....

What have have you guys seen as options? Does anybody know anyone who has modified both firewall and airframe to push the pedals forward?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

If you have the sling seat attach the back bottom of seat as far back as you can (if you haven't already).  A couple of inches can make a difference.

Definitely going to give this a try.  Will sit it back and low just enough that it doesn’t drag in the control rod.

  13. Let's FaceTime call and I'll show you what I've done to mine. I'm 6'3" and wear a 14 shoe. There's a lot that can be done. Send me your contact info. Bryce

Bryce- I would welcome the chance to FaceTime with you and see what you suggest ! -  I am having trouble sending a private message via the forum w/ my contact info.  Look for a PM soon.

  14. Guys, many thanks for the responses!  Having read Post #32 of the link below, I am trying to understand what geometry this results in.  I'll give it a more thorough read and see if it becomes more clear.

This post on TKF may not address your specific concern, but it explains how moving the mounting bracket back changes the rudder pedal angle and makes it easier to stay off the brakes (see post #32). It seems somewhat counterintuitive, but actually makes sense and for a good solution. I have long legs and my knees will still be in my lap, but I believe this approach will help keep my toes off the brakes. And there's lots of other good rudder pedal info in this post.
