Actually that cleared it up...lost in translation I guess. But, we have two control rods that I incorrectly interpretted as being a part of the Mod. Hence the confusion. Somehow I missed in your previous messages that the cables attached directly to the flaperons with not control rod in between.

As to the manuals and getting you that information, I fell sick with a virus that knocked me out of work and any and all activity for a month. Not to bore you with my histrionics, but in the process and in the disconnect, I did forget about your request, which incidentally occured the day before I was laid low.

As always thanks for the Help

    Hello all,

We are in the middle of installation of the flight controls, now on the F7A Mod. Does anyone have the instructions from airdale that came with the F7A Mod for the Avid Flyer? We really need this as we somehow managed to make it down here without the F7A instructions that should have come with the kit.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

Sorry Guys late to the party,

I'm building a Mark IV + from airdale. Appears that we have the Mark IV with modifications to frame for width. As to hardware and other things appears to be same as with Mark IV, we are finding.

My Question is then, it appears to be a very proliferate problem with the tail and needing to extend this clevis? on each side of the rudder?

So wanting to be ahead of the game and about to find a local machine shop to Manufacture some of the parts (owner man.) and possibly extend my control column, I would like to maybe have this done simultaneously.

So real question for AVID owners, is this a mod I will need to perform???

    Down but not out
    Howdy all,

A little under a month ago,  I got knocked for a loop. I caught a bug and have been out of work and on my back for a month.

I am only posting this so as to let those whom I have been communicating with and have been helping our little band of Merry Plane builders otherwise know as the "Cajun Militia" (Air Force Types), that we did not disappear off the face of the planet.

My illness while serious has hopefully been terminated with extreme prejudice      , but not a Doc and should know more by this time next week.

Hopefully as I have had my nose stuck in the manual for the last couple of days we will hit the ground running, well walking and then running, gotta build up the hutspa again.

Either way, running, walking or crawling, diving in feet first...flight controls here we come.

Sorry for the off subject post but just thought it polite to let those know why we all disappeared.

Remember the real location of the Garden of Eden can be found just South of Baton Rouge, La in a little place we call "Death Valley" Home of The LSU Tigers!!

    Doug,

Been sneaking around over in the Amphib section to see how the other half lives and noticed some good pictures of your mixer in the background. Would you mind posting some pictures of your mixer/flight control rigging. I learned a lot just by seeing the ones on the Amphib thread.

    Anything would be appreciated.

PS we could also start posting them in the new build pictures thread

    Lenny,

I am glad to hear it about the weld part as we may have to go the same route as Jack.

    All,
We are not sure of how we are to proceed yet. Has anyone thought of/tried designing/building a modified stick. We were of a thought that three inches of offset could be accomplished by an off set stick. I am not sure if it would work as the sleeve coming out of the control column rises up a good bit.

    Thoughts?

    Build Pictures
Just a feeler to see if anyone else likes the idea of creating a thread where you can post pictures (with description hopefully) of your build.

I have found for my own experience that I have been able to glean a lot from just seeing pictures of how the "other guy" did his. It also helped me because I see things I hadn't thought of and go.... Hey, I hadn't thought of that!

Sometimes it is a picture regarding something else and it helps me to see ahead of time how you handled something I have yet to get to.
    What do you think?

    Jack,

I was doing the same thing with my pictures but it was either Lenny or Doug posted a link to something called "power tools" that allowed me download an image resizer. Once installed, what I did was to do the attachment thing at the bottom of the post...."Browse" then when I got to my pictures and the specific one I wanted, I would right click on it and a drop down menu would appear. I originally did this to use the preview feature which allowed me to see my picture before doing the final step in posting. Anyway after downloading the image resizer a new item appeared on that menu "resize picture." It gives you several options; I choose the "medium" size which seems to do very nicely in our format. What it does is to create a copy and place it in the same folder without changing your original. Unfortunately, you have to close and reopen to find the new copy.

    Hope it helps,

    Howdy all from Bayooouu country,

Well, after a three day hiatus to that irritating thing called regular employment, I am back and what to my wondering eyes should appear...uuucckk!!

Well, I guess we are glad to find out now versus later the hard way. (RE:extending control column 2.5")

So, Jack, How do we, who are woefully inadequate in the area of welding and metal work/machinist work, extend this control column? Also, as I don't remember who said on this or the other thread, "a picture is worth a thousand words." Can you or did you take pictures of the extension process? I am somewhat familiar with what you are describing but a picture to see and understand how you mounted the extension would be mucho appreciated! Also, why not just re-weld a new tab further out versus the hose clamping method?

I am sorry if some of these question seem a little elementary. I am very Anal retentive...notice the capital "A."
It would be greatly appreciated if you could lend any further instruction as to the extension...One thing to note is that we have assembled our control column already (done at Airdale...builders assist) so this will provide even further fun, thinking, of disassembly and then all that will be needed to expand on internal parts of control column.

Okay I think I have beat this one enough

glad to be back at it....

PS I think I am gonna try to go past and assemble the mixer and other parts if I can before I do this extension...input?

    Hellluuuuooo,

On the size of the control column...we figured a picture is worth a a thousand words. So we attached some.....RESIZED....pictures for your perusal and enjoyment.

Side note: Could not figure out how to use the resize feature until while sending this picture, I right clicked to preview the picture before upload and low and behold a new little word on the drop down menu...."resize"  I guess even I can figure it out now.

By the way Lenny, your home state has been featured in one of the new release movies. The Movie "The Proposal" has part of it filmed up there in Gods Country. See, we in the lower 48 are finnally getting some taste.

    Papaer of plastic ehh?

Well now I see why I didn't think of it...too technologically advanced.

Now, we are starting on the flight controls. From the manual it indicates that you must install the floorboards first. Is this true? Can we do part of this prior to the installation of the floor boards? From your pictures me thinks me see that you have installed the bell cranks, mixers and some such before you installed the floor boards. Now, I know from your pic of the Marine ply that you have to install that prior to installing the control column housing. So, my question is can I install some of the other stuff I mentioned before I place the floor board in?

Also, on installing the floor board, how hard was that and do you have any pointers from when you installed yours?

Oakie Dokie that's all for now,

Check back in a little, going to see about paper bags and Marine 5 ply,

    Okie Dokie,

The reason I asked is that when I tried to load three pictures. It timed out on me. I am thinking a video which is going to be huge would fair very well either.

    Hidey Ho Neighbors,

Wow, that Five ply with the varnish is sexy stuff. Gotta love it. Okay not sure what are paneling is for but sure well figure it out. But it sounds like at the very least, were gonna be opening that hole in the ground we keep throwing our money into...otherwise known to you Yankees as an investment!!

Do you have a copy of the template you used for the floor. Were not sure how to attack this. The Mrs Coonass AKA Mother to me,(What a Mom!! look at her fine offspring!!), will be attacking this part of the project. I guess we can

pick that stuff up at a lumber yard? Where should we look for it?

    Drum roll please...........

The Cajun/LSU Avid Has Landed!!!!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!

Thanks so much for all the help.

As I type our little bird is napping quietly in our garage, on, you guessed it, her own three legs.

We have the wheels packed and properly installed with Jumbo ty-raps (175LBS a Piece)WAY!! more easy than Hose clamps. We used four two on each side.. I think it a great alternative to the hoseclamps.

Here are the picks. Enjoy! and thank you soo much for the ongoing help and banter

    Sincerely,

    Okay,
Well, that answers that as I have seen illusions to that effect somewhere (reference to a bushing in between the bearings). Okay as far as the tubing is concerned, what material do you think it should be made of. Seems to me that some of the spacers appear to be copper but that cannot be correct due to heat concerns ...can it? I only ask as I am going to have to replace the center spacer on either one or both of the axles, as I used a pipe cutter to cut an additional bit of spacer due to our alignment problem. It worked great. All lined up, but short one spacer...

Okay well this should not stop me as to drilling my next axle. Oh did I mention, drilled the first axle. The main problem with a drill press is the unusual shape to what you are drilling. Two man job and then still moved off my alignment mark. Had to re-cut additional outboard spacer.  Yeah , what fun!

I will have to wait til the am to go buy the additional tubing for interior spacer for both wheels.

PS Our manual has NOTHING regarding what you are talking about. Thank you so much for that.

Gonna be sick of us before its all done I'm afraid. No end to how much I appreciate it.

I am not sure what you are saying about location , but if it is in reference to Facebook I am located in New Orleans

    Hello All,

I am employed at DOW Chemical and a friend/corrusion engineer suggested this, sorry I do not have before me but will take a pic this evening and forward along, which is a two part epoxy @ a 1 to 4 ratio.

Many thanks, I feel the shackles falling off. I will bring the spacer with me but I am unaware of anyplace as of yet I can get to machine of the proper length. The idea of a washer sounds like the best avenue (at least doe the time being).

Once I have the proper alignment between the brake disc and the "Brake Backing plate then I can drill, pack and mount the shaft. I have a drill press so this should be as anything else we have done so far....hear that noise...me knocking on wood  or maybe it just sounds like wood, I deny any rumors as to my hardheadedness. Those people just could not see that I am always right!!

So in synopsis, headed to Lowe's to get two of the a fore mentioned washers. I am not sure if I mentioned this but looks as the variation is out 1/16 of an inch. And, yes it is to the inside. This is as you mentioned the mechanical variance that cause me to be concerned. Even if it is a shortened life span due to ware pattern.

Last bit is...Is there anything I need to watch out for when drilling the hole through the threads for the castle nut and cater key? I DO NOT want to screw up these axles and this seems a very touch part of the Job.
