I can do that. I'll go with 160/170 mains and pitch it to 6600. I need to verify the WOT. I'm thinking it is 6700-6750 I think I was chasing high water temps this summer so I was moving the pitch to 6800 for a baseline assessment.

I thought the Hackman and the 618 didn't play well together?

I can run at 5800+ rpm and the temps stay cooler, but the fuel consumption increases of course

    Midrange adjustment
I'm going back and forth with my midrange performance. Here are my stats:

    Rotax 618,
    WOT cruise set to 6800
    Rotax Rick 50hrs TSMOH

    My current installed Jetting:
    PTO main jet 165
    MAg Main jet 175
2.72 needle jets with 15k2 needles
45 idle jets and 2 turns out

I'm about to readjust idle after I install the clutch, so we will leave that be for now.

WOT on takeoff, I'm getting good smooth power and 950deg

Cruise: so here's the deal. Up till about a month ago, oat temps were in the 90's and the clip on the 2nd from the bottom was giving me a perfect colored plug and good egt temps hovering around 1050-1100. Now that the oat temps are down to 80 and below, I have been noticing my temps increase as they should. Checked my plugs and sure enough, too lean for me. So I dropped the clip to the bottom option. No good. She runs way to rich and pops and burps in cruise (5600rpm). I had a 45min flight toady with those conditions. landed, shut down, pulled the carbs and adjusted the needles back down. Off to the next landing site.... Engine runs soooo nice. But temps were at 1150 and any decrease in cruise rpm and the temps go up. as expected, but I don't like it.
I need a needle that allows me to use a middle clip option and be a bit richer than what I have now with the 15k2 on the 2nd clip.
    Or am I missing something?

Reading the instructions a bit more carefully, I see it says a " large three jaw puller is an option".

Cotton rope trick....the old sticking valve.. Nice. What about a drill bit or pin punch? Anyone know the correct diameter?

Actually, come to think about it, I believe the previous owner gave me the little tool kit that has that pin! Now where did I put it.....blast

Just got done reading through the CPS teardown instructions. Do I need special pullers? How about the "fixation bolt"?

Well, that didn't work for me. All fittings were leaking. The fuel was definitely softening the permatex. Blast. Now what?

Got all the fittings sealed. That stuff is like molasses.

Yep. That paste didnt work. So I will find the permatex. I did get 2 hours in today with my cub buddy before I started to get queasy with the fuel smell.
I use the clear vent line as a fuel level gauge for the header tank. If the line is empty, I had better find some gas.

Now that I have a spare tank, I'm going to carry it to some fab shops and see if an aluminum one can be made easily(read inexpensive)

Sounds good. Thanks. The flow certainly increased when I lifted the tail up to level flight

The picture I posted was from the first install. As with everything I do, its usually "third time's the charm". So after filling the tank the first time with all the plugs in place, I was getting some seepage from a few fittings. I went to ace and got some thread compound. Looks like toothpaste. Designed to be used on fuel fitting applications. By the time I left the bird last night there was no evidence of leakage. When I go out this afternoon....hmmm we shall see

The new tank has 7 ports where my old one had only 4. The picture shows my main fuel line from the tank at the very bottom. But on my second install attempt installed a fuel drain valve. There is another port about an inch up where I then installed the main line. Of course the three on top where the same. 2 tanks aand 1 vent. And on the upper side there are two more ports presumably for a fuel level sensor of some sort. Not sure.

I'll get some more pictures posted this evening of the install.

If anyone wants my old tank, you are welcome to it.

    Header tank relocation
Today I "upgraded" my original header tank to a new one. My build manual directs me to secure the tank on the structure where the shoulder belts are secured. So its way back toward the rear of the turtledeck. I've seen pictures of other installations and I think the 5,6and 7 have it located just behind the seat. So thats where I installed it today. It was a nice clean install and the fuel hose routing down the cross tubing cleaned up my hat rack.
I did notice due to the "elevation" change, the fuel does not flow as fast from the tank out the gascolator. Is there a minimum flow rate, or will the mikuni pump sufficiently pull all thats required? I dont have a standby electric pump installed at this point. I parked her on a hill, shut off both wing tanks and ran her at 5500 rpm for 10 minutes or so and didnt notice any difference as the fuel level in the header was depleting.

That is true. I was wondering what my takeoff run was going to feel like. She jumped off ok. Then we scared up a few gators on the shoreline. Its like an African safari down here! Fun stuff. Love the fox.

But a big tw is on my wishlist regardless.
