  3. akflyerbob added a post in a topic Rotax 582 start problems

Ive been messing with this snowmachine 582 for some time now.
It is indeed a 582 and not a 583, 583 has the exhaust valves.
The case is cast provision 8, but the bolt holes are not threaded.
Also and most inportant, the gear box surface is not machined to accept
a gearbox. It is single ignition.
I had a bad 582 case and was able to get measurements and a buddy
machined the case to accept the gear box with correct tolerances.
It turned to be guite a deal I didn't expect as looks can be deceiving.

  5. akflyerbob added a post in a topic AK 670 Powered Kitfox on Barnstormers

I called the man in Fairbanks about his plane w/670 motor. He only has 5 hours on the motor, gray head before.
He said takeoff and clime is great. Fitting the exhaust was the biggest problem because the maker turned
one elbow 180 out, mine is the same way and will have to be cut and rewelded.
We are only talking about 88 more CC's and one step up on jets. The motor, I believe was mint to follow
the 582 because of the drilled and threaded holes for the gearbox on the early models. I haven't found anyone
to verify this but there is no other reason for Rotax to fit the gearbox to a 670. Then about the same time
they brought out the 912 and the holes were no longer drilled on the 670.
    Just guessing here.
Your exactly right about adding power. I have a Ford Ranger with a 289 V8 w/about 400 horse and is real
hard to not use it at every red light.

Is he running the 670 in an avid where its upside down or right side up
in a fox? In an Avid the exhaust valves will carbon up.
I have the 670 exhaust for a Fox and it fits inside the round cowl

The IRS sends their auditor to audit a synagogue
The IRS sends their auditor (a nasty little man) to audit a synagogue.
The auditor is doing all the checks, and then turns to the Rabbi and says, "I noticed that you buy a lot of candles."

    "Yes," answered the Rabbi.

"Well, Rabbi, what do you do with the candle drippings?" he asked.

"A good question," noted the Rabbi. "We actually save them up. When we have enough, we send them back to the candle maker and every now and then, they send us a free box of candles."

"Oh," replied the auditor somewhat disappointed that his question actually had a practical answer. So he thought he'd try another question, in his obnoxious way...

"Rabbi, what about all these matzo purchases? What do you do with the crumbs from the matzo?

"Ah, yes," replied the Rabbi calmly, "we actually collect up the crumbs, we send them in a box back to the manufacturer and every now and then, they send a free box of matzo balls."

"Oh," replied the auditor, thinking hard how to fluster the Rabbi.

"Well, Rabbi," he went on, "what do you do with all the foreskins from the circumcisions?"

"Yes, here too, we do not waste," answered the Rabbi. "What we do is save up all the foreskins, and when we have enough we actually send them to the IRS ."

"To the IRS ?" questioned the auditor in disbelief.

"Ah, yes," replied the Rabbi, "directly to The IRS ...And about once a year, they send us a little prick like you."

This has been 3 years coming
List of Traitors     Over the weekend, we came four votes away from the United States Senate giving our Constitutional rights over to the United Nations. In a 53-46 vote, the senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.   The Statement of Purpose from the bill read:
To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly,46 of our United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.   Here are the 46 senators that voted to give your rights to the U.N.   Baldwin (D-WI)
    Baucus (D-MT)

Hello All, above is the list of all the TRAITORS in the U. S. Senate.
Thank God there was none listed for OK, AR, NE, or TX.

People this needs to go viral.
These Senators voted to let the UN take our guns.
They need to lose the election.
    We have been betrayed.

I can see possibly two problems. either
    1. The crank case is leaking psi into the pump shaft chamber causing the shaft seal to leak
oil into the rotary valve and the oil being sucked into the engine and burnt.
    2. The seal itself is leaking oil under gravity into the rotary and also being burnt in the engine.

As for mixing thats not going to fix your leaking seal problem.
The seal is not going to "heal up" and guit leaking.
The oil inj system its self is not your problem, its the cable or the ajusting housing on top of the pump
where the cable housing fits. Should be seated and safetyed so it can't come out when slack.
As said before, the pump is designed to vary the oil to the engines RPM, throttle setting.
When Mixing, the engine always runs at 50-1. Harder on plugs, rougher idle, more vibration.
Rotax oil pumps have failed but I think it was the older ones driven from the recoil. Mostly not
the pump failed but the pump drive.

  20. akflyerbob added a post in a topic M.E.K. Substitute?

Jim.. Yes I used the 105 for thinning all poly products instead of the MEK or 8500.
It of course it also serves for cleanup for poly and epoxy.
I also used a little acetone before finding out about the 105.
I thought there was no reason to pay $40 a gal when you get  5 gal for $50
Bob (I have no idea why the type font changed)

I use a solvent called "105 Gun and Equipment cleaner". Desinged for cleaning your painting tools
paint gun and brushes, etc. It's a hot, fast, thinner type solvent.
My local A&E reccommended it and has used it for years with poly products.
My four planes have been painted using it.
I get it at a local auto parts store, Car Quest, in 5 gallon cans for less than $50.
A couple local stores have MEK in 1 gal cans for $40+,,WTF

Ask Leni who tought him that.
I always carry a 20'X 16" roll of heavy visqueen just for that purpose.
Tape it ovet the nose of the ski an push it under and away you go.
And its good for more than several landings/take offs.

I would reccomend tying the plane down and runnig it with the cowl off.
Sounds like the case halfs might be leaking forsing pressure into the
pumpshaft housing thereby forsing oil out.
Are the oil hoses clear poly? If so you could see bubbles.

Yes I live in Soldotna, a couple blocks from Akflyer.
My floats are stored outside in a snow bank.
Its a poly tube that is mostly sprayfoamed over so
only part of it is visable. You can't see how its hooked
to the hole drilled at the bottom. I would think with a barbed
    hose fitting.
It's 12 below here this morning so a pic is out for now!
